Walt Disney World is in a Deep Freeze

I'm not offended at all because I am clearly not one of "YOU PEOPLE".

And the negativity on the Disboards in particular is the main reason why I hardly ever post here anymore. It seems like no matter what you post, be it positive or negative, you get attacked and jumped on.

Doesn't look like it to me. I've even seen a few people who are unhappy about the Norway change that have otherwise demonstrated in the past that they would defend Disney if they were boiling children in a pot. :stir:

I am not happy about the Maelstrom change. I'm afraid Norway will be so crowded it will be impossible to get around it (plus, Maelstrom and always been a favorite of mine).

But I'm all for the boiling children thing. I hope I can get a FP+ for it...

I am totally, completely, 100% over it. I liked it and thought it was cute but the massive onslaught of everything has me planning to consciously avoid it during our next trip. When I posted this sentiment on a thread on a Disney FB group asking the same question, I was told I was a sad person and just don't get it. I don't think being tired of the movie makes me a sad person! :rotfl:

Not really.

AK has nothing Frozen.
Epcot has very little (until this).
Even MK will end up having very little of it other than the parade and the M&G.
I think the only park that got taken over a bit was DHS but I think adding anything new there is a good thing. We enjoyed the singalong. The parade and the ice skating..eh.

I think by the time they finish the ride in Epcot, the only other things left will be the parade, the M&G and possibly the singalong in DHS.

ITA with this. It's easy to stay away from it if you don't want to see it, heck, even at DHS (other than being subjected to the banners, of course). We did a short, 3 day trip at the end of August to participate in Frozen Summer Fun. We did the premium package our first day and experienced everything Frozen (except the snow and skating, because we're from Minnesota so there's nothing novel or special about playing in the snow and ice skating for us!). The second day, we did NOTHING Frozen-related, even though we were at DHS. We showed up to the park "late" (around 10:00) so we avoided the opening show. We had a FP+ for Star Tours during the parade (though we did get stopped by the tail end of it coming out of the ride). We didn't stay late enough for the fireworks because we were tired.

On our one MK day, we did the A&E meet and greet and saw them in the parade. The M&G is easy to avoid and MK doesn't feel "Frozened-up" to me. I don't mind Elsa making the castle icy because it makes sense to me, but I also have no nostalgia for the Fairy Godmother doing it because this will be our first visit during "Christmas" time. AK and Epcot currently have nothing Frozen-related, so they're a total respite from Frozen.

I haven't been since all the Frozen stuff has been added so I guess I will have a better idea next month.

However, if the kids are loving it then its fine with me.

Is there an official close date for Maelstrom? We are there at the end of November and would love to ride it one last time!

I wonder how much drowning is because we keep abreast of disney news. So we have had a lot of news in short time about the frozen presence at the World. If I was to go to the park for a first time visit...would I feel drowned in Frozen.

MK
A castle makeover that lasts 5 minutes!
A presence on back of float in daytime parade.
A Meet and greet

Compare to Ariel
- on the princess float during day time parade
- a float and supporting characters for night time parade
- a ride with her name on it...
- at the character meal in the castle
- at her very own grotto
- segment in philharmonic, singing...

Compare to Beauty and the Beast
- on princess float
- Be Our Guest Castle
- her own attraction with enchanted tales
- her own gift shop
- Meet and Greet with Gaston
- Gaston's very own tavern

Epcot
A ride
Another meet and greet

Ariel
- character meal

Beauty and Beast
- character meal
- meet and Greet in France

HS
Frozen sing a long
frozen trading place

Ariel:
Her own show
On princess float during fantasmic

beauty and Beast
-headliner show
- frequently at character palooza
- on float during fantasmic

It is for sure a lot for a new movie franchise but I think the bigger question isn't whether we are frozen out...as this movie isn't even on par with two other popular princess movies...the question is whether the franchise is sustainable like the other princesses!

Plus a segment of her singing "Part of Your World" in Mickey's Philharmagic.

Even HS is not going to overrun by Frozen. Only the sing along and snow got extended and both of those can be completly ignored if you do not want to see anything frozen. The parade and fireworks were the only events that were forced on anyone that had no urge to see Frozen in the park and they are gone in a few weeks.

Well there are multiple meet and greets for MANY characters at WDW. However, the A&E ones do seem to be very elaborate, compared to most. The poor characters, who have to stand out in the hot sun to M&G, are the ones that should be protesting. LOL Also, with the lines for A&E, I am not overly surprised they are adding another meet and greet. Maybe they should have just added it to DHS with all the other additions there though.

The rest of the stuff doesn't phase me much. I will likely check it out, if we are in the area, but I am not overly excited about it, but I am also not bothered by it. I too loved the movie for what it is worth.

I don't know. As a family who's been to the parks a decent amount, we love new things to make each trip different. I would love to see these changes, since none were in place Sept '13 when we were there last.

I'm afraid a lot of this will be gone before our next planned Disney vacation next year (Septemberish 2015). :(

...the question is whether the franchise is sustainable like the other princesses!

Disney certainly seems to agree with you....they are putting a lot of temporary shows, overlays and such out there but they are playing the capital investment close to the vest. I doubt the Maelstrom overlay is going to cost much.

You people are never happy...you complain when things don't change...you complain when the Frozen line goes four hours. They make a new attraction out of an aging one (which you all clamor for every day in here). They provide a second place for Elsa and Anna meet and greet. They finally have a movie that is universally applauded, and can do something with.
My word folks.......be happy about SOMETHING for a change will you please..there, rant over..flame away

I can't recall EVER seeing ANYone here clamoring for them to replace "aging" attractions (read: classics). Adding new attractions, that's a different story. Lots of clamoring for that!

The point, which you so eloquently missed, is that people are not so much unhappy about the addition of a Frozen attraction. Many are rather pleased by that. But why does it need to be at the expense of another attraction (which some people, believe it or not, do enjoy) when there is plenty of empty space that could be used for this purpose?

Here's an (admitedly hyperbolic) analogy: Disney announces that they are opening a brand new Pixar theme park. Cheers go up around the DIS. Then you read the fine print. Instead of building on the acres and acres of undeveloped land they have, they're going to raze the Magic Kingdom and replace it with this new park.

See... someone can like the idea of getting new attractions, but we would prefer they not tear down the few existing attractions at some of the parks to accomplish this.

Don't REPLACE! EXPAND!

Ha! Beat me to it...was going to say like Ariel or Belle...and don't even get me started on that Mickey guy....he's everywhere.

By the way for Ariel/Little Mermaid - don't for Art of Animation Resort - a pool and rooms is even themed after her!

Personally I wish they would drop a bomb on Tomorrowland Speedway and build something else in it's place. :thumbsup2

However I fully agree with your point. We want more rides (Especially in Epcot and DHS) not the same inadequate amount.

Because it costs a whole lot more not just to build a new attraction from scratch but to operate and maintain versus a swap as they are with a ride that by no means a popular ride amongst the masses of visitors.

I understand the sentiment...as a patron I agree! But I understand the business side and believe they have made a wise decision replacing maelstrom with Frozen.
