Walmart "One Hour Guarantee" Deal?

Walmart also hosted a food drive for it's own employees
My understanding was this was the EMPLOYEES of one store that took it upon themselves to do this for their fellow co-workers.

And yes employees of Walmart, Target, Kohls, JcPenny, and most other retail stores make minimum wage (or just above).

Please don't shop on thanksgiving just to get a deal..similar deals will be available on cyber Monday and don't mean missing a holiday with family. Sad that we cannot just let people have lives and celebrate. I know several families whose relatives now have to work on thanksgiving and they are not volunteering. I am a nurse so I have worked many holidays and do my regret it..hospitals have to be open but Walmart can wait.

Please don't assume people have holidays they celebrate or families they celebrate with. I have a small family. It takes us about 1 hr to eat. Then we're done. And this year I'll be headed out to a few stores after dinner.

PS I'm also a nurse who has worked my fair share of holiday. I don't regret a single one of them. It came with the job. If I have to work a holiday I makes arrangements to celebrate with family either later in the day, or the day before or the day after. Just because the official holiday is Nov 28th doesn't mean people can't celebrate on Wednesday or Friday.

This. I'm also a nurse my family is going to be out of town and so we had Thanksgiving dinner last night. Dh is going to hang out at home while I go shopping.

I really feel people should be thankful each and every day, not just thanksgiving, and enjoy time with family when you're together. From what I've seen through the years, people eat, and then people plop down in front of the tv for football or similar situations.

My husband is a shift worker, and my dad was a shift worker. They've always had to work various holidays and they have always been thankful to have a job. Nurses, doctors, firemen, policemen, etc all have to work various holidays. For as long as I can remember, movie theaters have been open on Thanksgiving and Christmas Days. Yes, it's a shame we commercialize everything, but that's the way of the world now. The black friday employees who have to work on thanksgiving should be thankful for their job and the deal hungry consumer.

That being said, we aren't shopping. We are eating and heading to the movies which has been our family tradition for years.

I'm younger, but I actually don't mind working Thanksgiving night. We get paid time and a half for Holidays, and this means I get off earlier, instead of working all night til 9am.

When I was younger I always did holidays for the extra pay....

We give thanks everyday. There's nothing to do but just sit around and eat anyway. Black Friday has always been a special day for my daughter and I. We go shopping, have fun and then go to breakfast.

Same with us. My family eats at about 1pm, burp, laugh, we don't even like football so shopping IS our sport. We do it together and it's family time for us! :cool1::cool1:

As for working on the holiday I promised myself that I would never work at a place that was 24/7 or open on holidays or weekends ever again. That was my choice. If you choose a job that requires that then you have to roll with the punches. I remember those days and no one fought for my freedom on facebook like so many people are for those "poor working people" on Thanksgiving . I worked for very little in radio (listen closely, RADIO is ON every holiday) but will not do it again! :crazy2:

When I worked at DL, I worked every holiday I could to get the double time. I would try to get a late shift so I could still spend time with the family. Anyone who has been to a park on a holiday can attest to just how popular it is to be out of the house and doing something. Yes, that means a lot of people have to work so these kinds of places can be open for everyone else. I bet if Disney said they were closing down every Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years there would be an uproar. There's obviously a reason the store, theaters, grocery stores and other businesses are open on holidays. And kudos to Walmart for giving something to their employees for coming in on a holiday shift, it doesn't make up for the low wages but it's something.

Yea we are another family that eats at 1pm so it's not too bad to go shopping for a little at 6pm.

So did I! I always enjoyed it, and enjoyed the extra pay. Many in my family are in 24/7 industries. It's normal for us to celebrate on a different day.
That said, we're not shopping on Thanksgiving. Not as a protest or anything, but just to remind ourselves and our children that Thanksgiving is for spending a whole day being thankful for what we ALREADY have.
