Wall.e...

I have to say, one of the things I liked about this movie was the lack of talking. I think about the old movies (cartoon and otherwise) and how they'd let a reaction shot linger with no talking or action--that almost never happens nowadays.

On hubby's days off, DS gets up with DH and I sleep in (ahhhh). Of course that means they watch just about whatever they want, if the TV goes on. Something they've been enjoying is Tom and Jerry, which has very little talking at all. And it's so musical! DS has been able to figure out everything that's going on in T&J (which often had somewhat adult things, like when Tom in a zoot suit is trying to woo a female hip cat), and there was quite a bit in WallE that he got just by watching.

I think that kids who are reading already will get more of the movie, of course.

OMGosh I was going to mention Tom & Jerry! My boys love it too, although my oldest (10) is more into it than the younger one (7). He's very happy because since we expanded our cable lineup he can get it every day between Cartoon network and Boomerang :)

i agree it does give of the recycle vibe *** i got that from watchin it..i thought it was the message it was givin out lol:lmao:

My DD does like Tom and Jerry. But lots of action is always going on in them too.

We all loved it (DH, me and DS, 3). We had a book about Wall-e so we were a little prepared for the story and whatnot. I didn't think it pushed an agenda and was pleased by that. I just love the opening 30 minutes or so. How can one not adore that little robot? I loved the music too and we have checked out Hello Dolly from the library too...we are all over fans!!!

Gosh, we must really have missed something. I thought it was so depressing and DD found it pretty boring. Really, I was just sad for Wall-e the first half and then for the people in the second half.

I need to go find me a comedy!

Is that the movie he kept wathing. I had no clue what it was.. LOL! I found most of the first part very slow. He definatley is cute. But I kept waiting and waiting for the "good" part to start, and it really never did for us.

After "Toy Story", "Cars" and the other great Pixar movies, this one was a major dud. OK, so I had to use my imagination a little due to the absence of most dialogue, but I am still confused as to the exact plot. :confused3 OK, so the big Wal-Mart-esque company took over the earth, sent everyone on a "cruise" where they became fat and completely dependent on robots, and then they were unable to return to earth because of pollution? Wall-E is somehow the only robot that remains (how is that, exactly?) There were SO many underlying themes that were a bit objectionable.... corporate greed turned the earth into a giant landfill; dependence on technology breeds obesity and sloth; and then there was the part with the "crazy" robots put into their own "ward"...one even got put into a "straightjacket"! Now, don't get me wrong, there are lessons to be learned, but they are too subliminal and open-ended in this movie. Without the dialogue, there is no explanation of WHY these problems happened. They showed the consequences of actions but they never explained (or even showed!) WHAT those actions were. The "resolution" of the problem wasn't even done! They ended the movie with the people being debarked on earth. Are they just setting up for a Wall-E 2?

My kids (ages 2 and 5) happen to like any animated entertainment so they tolerated it. I asked them to tell DH about the movie when we got home. DD5 (who has the memory of an elephant) was only able to tell him that Wall-E had a friend named "Eve-A". That was all she took away from the movie. She didn't know what Wall-E was or what Eve was (what WAS Eve?:confused3 ) and she didn't remember the spaceship or the plant or the captain....nothing.

I did like the interactions between Eve and Wall-E. THAT was about the only part of the movie that was better with the limited dialogue. Wall-E's interactions with the cockroach were cute too.

Overall, I thought this movie was poorly thought out. They've been talking about it and supposedly working on it for years. I think they could have done a lot better. We won't be buying this one when it comes out on DVD.

I think it was a great movie with a great message. It sparked a lot of questions from my DD6 about protecting the earth and reducing trash. However, it didn't hold the attention of my DD4 and she didn't grasp the message at all.

Massive spoilers, don't read by accident!!!

kristenrice....

The world was already too polluted, and that is WHY everyone was sent off on galactic cruises, so that those in charge could try to clean it up for people to come back home.

The people got so big because of a couple reasons. The main part was skelatal changes due to microgravity (or something like that). Real gravity of our own planet is what our bodies are used to, but it is different in space, even with created gravity, and it's a real issue that astronauts have to deal with. After 700 years in space, the bodies had changed so much, their skeletons had completely changed, due to the gravity. That's why their feet were so small, their fingers were nubs, etc.

And of course they weren't doing anything for themselves, which is going to cause problems as well.

But I NEVER got that there was a tech leads to sloth, just that you have to have a balance.

The plan told to humans was that they were going to come back as soon as the earth could sustain life, but soon after everyone was gone, the "CEO", lol, of the earth realized it was impossible, so he secretly put the robots in charge.

I got the feeling that WallE was different than the other robots b/c he managed to develop a personality. Same with the "crazy" robots, IMO. They went away from their directives and got a little intelligence. WallE was able to fix himself using the other WallEs. He gained a friend. He developed an appreciation for certain things. When he lost his memory, you saw how far gone he was b/c he followed the directive over his beloved things he collected.

And the end, to me, showed that you need both. Humans and technology to help humans. A balance.

I didn't get that ANY agenda was pushed in this movie, so I didn't need to see the background, just like I don't need to see the other races Lightning McQueen won before getting to the Piston Cup.

Of course, I am looking forward to the extended DVD so we can spend hours watching the bonus features, and learn all about everything behind the movie, and especially watch the deleted scenes. We love our extended DVDs around here. Sometimes my 4 year old wants to watch the "making of" discs instead of the movies! :) :goodvibes

Just saw the movie yesterday with DS10 and DS7. They both really liked it! One thing that I noticed that would have confused some was that they continued the story with pictures during the credits. If you didn't stay and watch you didn't see (Please hi-lite, spolierish)...The humans and robots working together to rebuild earth. They showed them planting crops and finding drinking water. The Earth started to heal itself. There were streams with fish. People started losing weight. ..That would have given some answers as to what happened after they came back to Earth.
