Walking a reservation: how and what does this mean?

I read that we can only make a reservation for a week at a time. I am planning to be at WDW Dec 12-22, 2011. How would I *walk* this reservation to ensure we get it at our 11 month mark? We are wanting a 2 br at SSR for the first 5 nights and a THV for the last 5 nights. SSR is my home resort.

:thanks:

You shouldn't have to walk the SSR reservation except maybe for the THV part.

If you could live with THV for the whole stay if you had to, I would probably call on Jan 12 and book 7 nights THV. Then call on January 17 and book the remaining nights at THV. Finally, see if you can switch 12/12 to 12/17 to SSR 2 BR. If not available, WL just those nights at SSR. -- Suzanne

Awesome!

How does that work because I will be borrowing points? The SSR dates would be 12/12-12/17 and our THV dates will be 12/17-12/22.

Sorry, this is so confusing to me. :goodvibes

I think Suzanne has given excellent advice. The THV's are the exact same number of points as a 2BR so you won't be borrowing anything more than what you would need for the 2BR + THV.

You have two separate reservations because they are different lodging.

Your problem with trying to walk the THV reservation is that you will already have a reservation with your names on it. You won't be able make a second reservation for the same time (thus "walking it") with the same names.

So Suzanne's idea may be the only way to get what you need.

Good point, thanks. I was thinking that I would be making 2 full reservations for the total number of dates and then canceling some. :upsidedow

What if I booked it under DH's name? Is that legal? If not, then I will go with Suzanne's idea but am unsure how that is different than making the reservation without walking it. :confused3

Yes, you could book the THV under your husbands name and walk it but it would probably be just as easy if the THV is available on the first day you call for your reservation to book it for the whole time. The treehouse part is the only room that might have a problem so that's why you should be fine waiting to switch the first part to the 2BR until you have the whole time booked.

Doing as Suzanne suggested is a little different than walking b/c you're not tying up two rooms on days that you plan on cancelling one of them. You're taking a risk that you may be in the THV the whole time - but you're also guaranteeing yourself a room for those nights. It's not different in another way though b/c you are booking a room type that you don't really want in order to guarantee getting it later.

No need to walk a reservation for a 2 bedroom at SSR. There will be availability for 2 bedrooms well after the 11 month window opens.

So concentrate on getting what you want for the THV. Then cancel the THV nights you don't need and book the 2 bedroom.

I wouldn't mind staying in the THV the entire time but DH would. This will be our first trip home and he is ga-ga over SSR. He was a little resistant to splitting at all and staying at the THV until he realized it's still SSR.

DH would be so sad if we didn't get his beloved 2 br at SSR. Are there many 2 br available?

SSR is the largest DVC resort. It has more dedicated 2 bedroom villas (360) than any other DVC resort. It also has 432 lock off 2 bedroom villas (those can be booked as separate studios and 1 Bedrooms or as a 2 bedroom). SSR 2 bedrooms will be available well after the 11 month window opens.

Even if you decide to book all 10 nights at THV to make sure you get the THV nights you actually need, there is virtually no chance that all the 2 bedrooms will be gone by waiting a week or so to book the 2 bedroom.

Just get the THV reservation, then drop the first 5 nights (keeping the last 5 as you want) and book the first 5 in a 2 bedroom. That's the best way to end up with what you say you want. Really, if you get the THV reservation, you'll be just fine. :)

Thanks Carol for the affirmation. I will book the THV first and then change to the 2 br. :thumbsup2
