Marathon Weekend 2027

All right, folks! The voting has been tallied and we’re ready to start head to head match ups in March Movie Madness on Sunday. A couple of notes before revealing our qualifiers in each category. First off, a big thank you to @Novatrix for fully embracing her new role as Disney Movie Villain! Secondly, remind me not to do this during registration week next year. Having to sift through 50+ pages of registration posts to find all the votes is no bueno. With that out of the way, here are your March Movie Madness qualifiers in each category:

Disney Animation
  1. Lion King
  2. Beauty & the Beast
  3. Encanto
  4. Little Mermaid
Pixar Animation
  1. Up
  2. Toy Story
  3. Incredibles
  4. Coco
Disney Live Action
  1. Pirates of Caribbean: Black Pearl
  2. Mary Poppins
  3. Who Framed Roger Rabbit
  4. Enchanted
Disney Acquired IP
  1. Empire Strikes Back
  2. Guardians of the Galaxy
  3. Raiders of the Lost Ark
  4. Rogue One
One quick note on the results. In the Disney Acquired IP category, Rogue One and Avengers: Endgame actually tied, so Rogue One was advanced based on receiving the most 1st place votes.

I look forward to kicking off the head to head voting on Sunday!

This is a solid bracket! Thanks to you and @Novatrix for your efforts this week.

Thank you @camaker for all your hard work compiling this and setting it up, particularly considering the need to dig through all the registration madness.

To save your future sanity, maybe next year it should be an April Fools Bracket....

I must say, I'm pleasantly surprised that the lists have mixtures of expected as well as surprise picks. It's going to be tough to choose but in the end, like the Highlander, "There Can Be Only One."

Thank you @camaker and @Novatrix !

I was actually thinking about how tough this would be to compile when I saw some SAFD votes coming in on registration day. Maybe next year you add a rule that no votes can be placed on the Tuesday - that way you can skip the whole day.

I think the one that surprises me the most on this list is Rogue One (even though I voted for it). This is going to be absolutely brutal - it might take me right up until Sunday to decide who I'm voting for.

Life’s full of tough choices, isn't it?

:)

Maybe the DisBoards "advanced search" would help in the future? Just search for all posts in this thread containing SAFD after whenever you posted the question

So does it only time out after 10 mins if you don’t register at all? I always thought you only had 10 minutes once you got through the queue. Did I make that up? Can you keep registering people beyond 10 mins? I did get lucky and was able to get registered. I wanted the full + 10k but the full was the priority. I completed the marathon registration first and paid, then went back. I was trying to type so fast thinking the 10 minutes would run out. Is that not a thing?

I'm also not sure about the 10 minute timeout as I feel like I took more than that, but I was active pretty much the whole time. Maybe it's 10 minutes if it detects that you're just sitting on it?

I did 3 people on mine (including myself) and after the 3rd person, when I hit the back button, I got the queue expired need to rejoin message. I'm not sure how long I was in it total (at least 10 minutes) but I definitely didn't leave the page inactive or anything.

My best guess based on all of this is that you have 10 minutes to start any registrations that you want. I did myself and a friend for Dopey first and then went back and registered my kids for the 5K. I didn't want to do it all in one batch out of fear that Dopey would sell out before I got to payment and I figured the 5K would last long enough that I could get the kids in with the second pass.

Anyway the whole process definitely took me longer than 10 minutes start to finish, but I'm pretty sure I began the 5K registrations while still within the 10-minute window. Can't say for certain because I closed out when I was done with the kids, but I suspect if I'd tried to click the back button for a third trip to the well I would have gotten the time out message.

There's a game theory for this, I'm sure, where you are personally incentivized for entering even though it makes it worse for everyone else.

ETA: so in conclusion, we're not hurting ourselves, but we are hurting each other (except that we are also helping each other constructively)

Right, I think the "game theory" would be that you're actively reducing your "expected value" by NOT opening as many windows as possible because everyone else will be. It's like a raffle where you can buy multiple tickets. Net effect is that even though the EV of any given entry is reduced, the sum of a lot of entries is a higher EV overall.

To paraphrase a line from Andor, "rD has made a game of it, and we play."
