Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Maria thanks so much for your post and your encouragement!

My mantra: DID NOT FINISH > DID NOT START

I know its a mental game, and I know I am NOT winning the mental game!! I barely got 3 miles in today at 50 min! so depressing! Chicago weather was 62 degrees, but it wasnt warm - very windy, the small lake here was still frozen over, so it was chilly at times, I still ran in shorts - - I still wish the women's shorts were a tad longer!!

I'm going to shoot for the August CDC!! and I wont give up, but I know I can do better!

I'll be in Florida, on vacation, without kids. One day at a time.

My mantra: DID NOT FINISH > DID NOT START Goes right along with the WISH quote

Dead last finish beats, did not finish with greatly trumps did not start!!!

My personal fav is, "It is not a miracle that I finished, it is a miracle that I had the courage to start." It is a quote from John Bingham....I might have a few words wrong but you get the jest of it.

We are all going to be successful and finish ahead of the sweepers and injury free!!!!!!

Kim

bekkiz: I agree with Susie.....sounds like a fuel or hydration problem. I experienced that twice and it was really horrible. It shouldn't be a problem on the course, but carry some food with you just in case. I personally like the sports beans, but you could also carry gummy bears, mini snickers, power bars, mini fig newtons, etc. My husband swears by juicy fruit gum. He says it has just the right amount of sugar to keep him going. As soon as the taste goes away he pops in another stick. I know you are going to be fine.

I'm also curious about the headphones......and are headphones the same as earbuds? They seem different to me. My daughter insists she will not be able to run without Celine, but doesn't want to get DQ'ed. She used them last year with no problem, but I think the official ruling just went into effect this year. Can anyone shed some light on that?

If if really want a throwaway sweatshirt, take an old one and cut it right down the middle with a scizzor. When you're ready to ditch it, it comes off
super easy and your bib number is always accessible.

I will probably be a peeing, pooping bundle of nerves on race day, but right now I am more excited than scared. Maybe I'm naive, but I'm hoping to actually enjoy the experience.

Scott/Lynn: how is the weather there at WDW? Any sign of rainclouds?

I head straight to DTD and stock up on Jelly Bellys they work for me.

Kim

So do you just carry them in a little bag with you? I am contemplating a small waist pack, for my key card, and a little bag of jelly bellys would certainly fit. How much 1/4 lb., etc. do you usually bring?

Forgive me if I am too pedantic, I am trying to cover all the bases!

Maria

You know at the goofy store where they sell the jelly bellys well they have little zip lock type bags, I usually get about 2 to 3 fingers deep so probably a little more then a scoop and keep them in my water belt. I like to have a extra few for after the race as well, I am not a gadorde drinker so I find they help me get my sugar back in my system that I may have sweated out. Not sure if it is right but it works for me.

Maria, are you walking, jogging or a bit of both???

Thanks, Kim. I have noticed the jelly bellys in Goofy's store, but I didn't purchase any or look closely at the containers. I think this is a great plan for me, as I also do not like any of the "ade" drinks. Plus, I get to choose a yummy flavor...popcorn::

I will be walking, probably "wog" at some points. I have to "wog" to keep up with dh's fast walk. I definitely am not a jogger for 13.1 miles! :scared1:

Well, now I can tell dh we have to take a trip to DTD Friday. He's going to have to let me have my boatride, 'cause we're at POR!;)

Maria

Do you know what corral you are in? Dh and I are in C. He will walk/jog and I will probably almost all walk, but might throw in some wogging just to make sure I am ahead of the sweepers.

I only get cherry, not sure why but I like those the best, DH will get a variety.

So excited,

Kim

I am going to have to figure out the corral tonight at home. I have our numbers, but not here with me at work, and I need to look up the directions again. That's something else I meant to do but hadn't yet. We don't have a verified time, so I assume we are in the last corral, since we said we'd do it in 3:30...

I like the idea of getting a variety of jelly bellys, that way I can be pleasantly surprised as I move along...It really is a shame I have to work two more days before we leave, I can barely focus:yay:

Maria

That would be corral C, Mike and I are in taht one as well, I think we said 3 hours, but with my lack of training I think it will be closer to 3:30.

I have 2 more working days as well, we fly in early Thursday morning. When do you arrive? Are you going to the POP meet. Also in case you missed it a few of us are meeting at the packet pick up at 2PM then going out for a bite to eat if you are interested.

Where you are ToT or the Minnie, trying to remember if I "met" you in person or not??

Thanks, now I know where we'll be! We fly in Thursday afternoon, I expect we'll get to POR 6ish. I am definitely coming to dinner at Pop. I also want to look around, so we may be a bit early. I've never been there, and I want to check it out.

I'm not sure when we're going to pick up our packets -- we have family and friends we have to visit with, and I have no idea how we're going to fit them in:scared1:

This is my first Disney race (and second race) ever, I am a total newbie so you have not met me yet!

Ok, so we have to make a pact to try be sane the next few days...otherwise I may jump out of my skin. We need all the Walkers we can get to keep us in line!:goodvibes

Maria

yes, since it appears Dave and Robert have left us.

It was nice chatting wiht you a bit this afternoon, look forward to meeting you, we are staying at POP so we will probably be in the area all afternoon, not sure what building or room number but I always wear my green wish bracelet so if you see me stop me and chat.

Well, almost time to go home from work:rolleyes1 Don't tell anyone I was surfing all afternoon, can't concentrate anyways....:lmao:

Have a wonderful night.

Kim

Another option for sugar intake is hard candy. My friend swears by this. She carries several pieces with her during the run.

Jeanne - I think you have the right attitude about this weekend. At this point, just go and have fun. I know, I know....MUCH easier said than done. I'm just looking forward to getting it over with, sad to say. :teeth: Not the weekend but the event itself. ;) I want that medal and hopefuly, I'll get it! :cool1:

I had a visit with the podiatrist this morning. He took a look at my blister and asked when the marathon was. I told him Sunday. His eyes got big. Not a good sign. He said to just wrap it up and it should be okay and to expect more during the run as that's what he normally sees after people come back from these events. Very encouraging. I'm tough! I can handle it.

Kim and Maria - you ladies are going to do just fine. :goodvibes You'll probably do better than you anticipate. Just be sure not to get caught up in all the excitement at first and start off too fast. That was a problem of mine last year and I think it contributed to some of my blistering later on.

See you all very soon!

Thanks for being my buddy, I needed to keep myself occupied rather than staring out the window thinking about the event! :rotfl:

Like you, I'm going home and then I'll be doing 30 min on the TM. It's a little too dark for me outside. I will look for a lovely lady with a green WISH bracelet as we wander around. I think I will have my Home Depot lime green mickey head in a pouch around my neck (if I can find it!) And it says Worfiedoodles on it...*Note to self, look for mickey head tonight!

Maria

Thanks everyone for the wise words and encouragement! I really needed the help :grouphug:

I'm also in Group C, and playing ditch the sweeper, so hopefully I'll see you on the course. I should be wearing WISH green :cheer2: We get in early Friday morning (after a red eye). I can't wait!

Susie -- You are a brave little soldier! I think I would be totally freaked if I had a blister right now! Thanks so much for the encouragement, we need every word!:grouphug:

Hey WISH Warriors, I missed y'all. I was 4 pages behind, wow!

Several if you are new and a little afraid, don't be "We're gonna do this thang and we're gonna do it together"!

Once you get started and you have the first few miles under you and you are warm it will flow. Endurance is a mental game as well as physical. If you go along looking for little aches and pains you will probaby find some but if you let your wild untamed side loose and fly you will get through it.

There are sights and sounds every where and a lot of company, the WISH warriors are magic, believe it. We will be all over the place racing with you and cheering from the sides.

When you are there at the start, mentally plant your feet and draw your sword. Pledge to yourself that you will slay your demons as they raise their ugly heads. The demons of self dought, fatigue and fear.

Maria yes we can all get to the Pop a little early so we can meet our new walkers. We usually get there early anyway.

The evil Panda has escaped and fleed south and has gone to ground at the CBR. The weather here is awesome and Epcot's Spaceship earth is open again and the changes are a must to see.

See y'all soon.

Party Panda:hippie:

Dave: Evil Panda on the loose at WDW without someone to watch over him. I will be there soon to save the day. Don't be telling how nice it is or I might have to say BM:laughing:

A funny story….

We had a bit of delayed Christmas with Mark’s business partner and family. They came over last night and were asking about the race. They are big time Disney fans but hate to travel in the winter. He asked me if I thought I would win the race! Can you believe it? I about busted a gut. I said Wayne, I want to finish the race there is no way that I’ll even come in first in my age division, remember I’m WALKING the race. OMG did I laugh at that. Oh well ignorance is bliss, he has a lot of faith in me which is nice.

I’m glad we have Scott and Dave already in town to give us updated weather reports.. Keep us posted.

Our team does not have lime green anything but Mark is making us name tags to attach to duct tape across our chest with our name on it. I guess when we’re feeling a bit tired and need encouragement, our names in on a bright green background in Disney typestyle is the next best thing.

Well I have things to finish up so I’ll leave you for now.

denise

I'm doing the same thing! I'm going to write my name on my shirt in fabric marker as Sandy so wisely advised! :)
Good news! My coworkers had to here me fuss and panic all day and I told them all about the WISH team and they reminded me that one of our staff has a husband who works for our turnpike. I have a lime green T Shirt now!!! :cheer2:
