Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Hi all! I guess I'm joining in a little late. I'm always around dis just didn't make it over to this section. We are staying at POP -- what time is the meet and greet?

I walked the half last year and my husband walked with me and then did the full the next day. We walked it in 3:15 with a chip of 3:45 as it took 30 minutes to cross the start. This year I have trained to run the 1/2 so we'll see how it goes. Ironically I have trained exclusively on a treadmill so I'm not sure if its an advantage or a disadvantage! I'm also turning 40 this year as it seems like a few of you are also.

Welcome Jo-Ann :)

We meet at 4:30 at the Pop food court on Friday. I think some of us walkers will be getting there a little earlier before the 100+ people mass arrives.

Clear and 62 as I type/

I am sorry I let the Panda loose yesterday, I forgot my phone and missed a msg.

I will find the Panda today. Good to know reinforcements are on the way.

Hey WISH Warriors, I missed y'all. I was 4 pages behind, wow!

Dave, 4 pages is nothing -- I'm about 2 months behind! Yeow!

Seriously, I am now in speed-packing mode. I have been swamped with parental and tech-writing duties. Life happens. (We'll call it an "extended taper" since my last marathon in December at Kiawah.) I am so looking forward to seeing everyone! I'll be at the Pop meet, the 5K, and the Goofy events, and hope to catch up with some of you before the races start. I'm going to try to stay awake (for the first time) for the PI celebration on Sunday but I am heading straight for the comedy club I think -- I've always wanted to go there!

I've missed chatting with you guys. Looking forward to seeing you all very soon.

Good Morning!

I'm getting an early start on the DIS, before I go to work and begin my texting day!

Here's a question for you -- Does anyone wear their running shoes on the plane, as an easy way to get them there without having them in your carry-on? Is this blasphemy? Is there any reason not to?

Wendy, Dave, Scott, Robert, Denise, Larah --I am so looking forward to meeting everyone! Get Florida warm for us, for those of you already there.

Jo-Ann -- Welcome! I'm on the TM when it's too cold, which is most of the time for me! I think we'll be ok, I have trained outside, and it's more exhiliarating. It's going to get us moving!

Ok, off to work...

Maria

Denise/Lara: last year the bibs had your names right on them. We got a big kick cheering for people by name.

Denise: funny story.....amazing how clueless some people are.

Wendy: good to see you back. How did the full in "hawaii" go? I was waiting for a race report, but never saw one. See you -and everyone else - Friday at the Pop.

Hey there everyone,

Dave and Erica, glad you all made it there safe and sound!!!!!

Just a quick check it will be back later today.

Kim

Jeanne -- Hawaii! You're too funny! :rotfl2: Thanks for asking! The Kiawah (SC) marathon was awesome. I have a race report with loads of photos in this thread. (So many photos that it takes up the first TWO posts, so keep scrolling! :flower3:) Everyone should do Kiawah once in their life. And if you like flat -- it is REALLY flat -- flatter than Disney! They even have a half, so no worries no matter what your preference.

I call it "Charleston, and chocolate, and cherubs -- oh my!"

Thanks for posting that, Wendy. I guess with all the Christmas hoopla going on, I totally missed that entire thread. That course looks really pretty. Something else to add to my list to "think about".....oh wait, no, this is going to be my first and last marathon, remember? :thumbsup2 Just in case, what were the time requirements?
Charleston is a great city. we are going to a wedding there in April and will be staying 2 nights downtown. The wedding is taking place at the oldest Catholic church in Charleston....it wouldn't by any chance happen to be that white church you photographed?
The chocolate tour sounded awesome. In fact it sounded so good I just went into another room to grab a truffle from a box someone gave us for Christmas. Says alot about the power of suggestion.Truffles before noon, i'm bad!

Wendy: Welcome back:) We will see you at Pop Fri(also with Deads), the 5K, and at the "Villa". Give us a call when you get in:)

Final packing going on as we get ready to head to Reno for a stay there overnight before our 6:00am Weds flight. It is snowing again(nothing new):(

Can't wait for sun and fun!

Robert safe travels to you and Linda tonight and tomorrow. See ya Thursday!!

Kim

Ok, Robert, we are relying on you to get that Panda in order! Snow or no snow, you are in charge of keeping him out of Disney jail until Friday afternoon!

As you do your final packing, is there one item that experience has taught you to bring? Just looking for hints, I'm also using Cam's packing list...

Travel swiftly and safely!
Maria

Maria: If Dave doesn't behave, I will evn pay Disney Security to put him in the "secret jail" until Friday when we can control him in mass.

My main thing to do in final packing/checklist is making sure I have everything I need for race day in my carryon. Everything can be dealt with while at WDW, but if your running stuff is lost you are up a creek. Also, make sure you have all you AC adapters/ chargers for camers, Garmins, and laptops. I almost always try to forget my laptops:)

I agree, all my race requirements are in the carry on.

Robert, how much snow do you guys have? We had probably about 3 feet total but believe it or not, most has melted we are in a January thaw here right now. Temps up to 15C.....walking in a t-shirt last night.

Printing off boarding passes tomorrow....so excited!!!!

Kim

I did manage to get in 2.5 miles yesterday, I couldn't pass up the 60 degree weather in Jan. Not going to walk today as my R heel is sore.

Safe travels to all of you leaving. I'll see you all on Friday at POP.

Jeanne-- I'll call you when we get to BWV. We should be there by 10am if all goes well. You know feeding Brian so early at POP will mean that I have to feed him again later in the evening. I bet it will be the same with Jason.

Nancy

Hopefully I'll see all you guys in '09 or '10... :(
