Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Jeanne--- Good job on adding in some jogging. I can only do 2 minutes max jogging and only once or twice during a mile. Usually by the second mile I am finished with jogging.

Connie-- I could never master rollering blading so it would be the same thing "heelies". I'm glad they didn't have them when my sons were little as I find them annoying. Good job on your 4 miler.

Maria--- I only signed up to do this half for a different place to do my LW. I was already in WDW so just extended my vacation to do ToT. It is hard in my area to find races that are walker friendly.

Denise--- Good job on your 4 miler. Good luck on your race on Sunday.

Poor Dave having to work 12 hrs today. All your princesses princess: are missing you.

when I get my medal I will have the last laugh. You never know what you can do until you try. Don't be afraid to give it a shot.

so true!!!! I am not rail thin and I"m old too but you know what??? I'm going to do this and wear my medal proudly.

Steffwalks:Woohoo!! I just did 4 miles at less than 16 min. a mile. And I did it in sand and gravel and rolling hills!!! I think I done good. I think that is equal to a 14 min mile with the rolling hills. That will get your butt in shape!!
denise

Morning Wish Team!!

Thanks for all the kudos on my time....I am not sure it is equal to 14 min, but its a wonderfully pleasant thought! Makes me smile.
:goodvibes

Maria, are you gonna do it?? We know you can! The way I see it, you can exercise for an hour or you can exercise for a reason. Of course, you can do it. I was in my first race at the grand old age of 49 and 9 months! Kathy and I didn't know what we were getting ourselves into....our first race was a 20K Trail race, I don't really recommend that. For a first race! People kept asking us if we were crazy, turns out, we may have been!!! :lmao:

Nancy and Jeanne are joggers! How cool! :woohoo:

Nancy, I don't find that the "heelies" are as annoying as the children who use them without regard to public safety and the parents who let them! -- My granddaughter asked for a pair and I told her that I loved her and wanted her to learn to behave properly in every setting, so the answer was NO!:snooty:

Good Morning!

Well, technically I've already been in my first race. It was a very local 5K, and there were about 20 participants. I came in dead last, but was very grateful to finish. It didn't have any of the amenities I hear about, I think we were lucky to get t-shirts. My dh, who has been in "real" races, tells me that was nothing like what we're going to encounter in Disney -- based on the number of people who are signed up. So, I probably need to do a race where there are more people so I can see what it is like and I don't have a total meltdown when we get to the Disney Half!:scared1: I'd better look for something quick, I have a feeling it's about to turn chilly around here. When we signed up for the Half in January, I don't think I really understood what was involved...and now I have to do it!:upsidedow

Last night I did another 5 miles on the TM. I didn't want to start, but I was glad when I finished. Tonight I think I'll end up at about 3.6 or so. I am really dragging this morning, so I think I'd better not push it too much. My next goal is to start getting faster. I definitely need to quicken my pace, and concentrate on going farther on a long walk each week. Right now my long walk is 5.2 miles (I'm doing loops around a walking trail). When I add another lap, I'll be up to 7.8 miles. I may try that Sunday morning, we'll see how the weather and I are doing.

Those heelies scare me. DS really wanted them, but I vetoed it. I just think that's asking for a broken bone...and it would probably be mine when I tried to stop him when he was actually fine:lmao:

Connie -- Wow! A 20K Trail Race! I can't even imagine that! You really jumped in with both feet! Nothing can intimidate you, after making that your first race!:cheer2:

Denise -- I would be most likely to break the rail, and I am pushing 40 (my goal is to be fit, fabulous and 40!:cloud9: ), but I am so excited that I can finally do something active and not feel like a failure. I'm one of those kids that wasn't overweight, but had zero physical ability. No one was picking me first for gym class, and I definitely convinced myself I wasn't athletic. It is so exciting for me to reach any little milestone, because I really thought they were all out of reach.

Nancy -- I think you are going to have a wonderful time on this extra "long walk"! I can't wait to hear all the details of this moving party Dave has planned!

Jeanne -- You're making me feel better. When I tell people I'm in training for the Disney Half Marathon, they look at me like I've grown another head! I'm overweight, I don't look like an athlete at all, and over the past year I actually gained about 20 lbs (which I've thankfully started to shed). You can't judge a book by it's cover!:thumbsup2

Well, I'm off for my weekly meeting with my boss. That usually means I have about 20 more things to do!

Everyone have a fantastic day, and walk strong!
Maria

Nancy, that was so sweet, reading that made my day already, thank you.

Connie, walking on gravel, sand and grass is good for building strength and balance but sucks for long distances. I tried to do a race once on grass while I was still a runner. It was the last time I ever ran.

I'm whipped this morning, Erica normally works 12 hour shifts but I don't, so it kicked my butt, of course you know my resident pretty princess had to call me a "Wuss". Poor me whinning, doesn't get you any pity around here at all. Especially since she worked a 12 hour shift to and came home all bubbly and happy and full of energy! Grrrrr!:guilty:

Stacey did the 10K race for the taste in a good time.:yay: You did super lady.:cheer2:

Maria I just love your Avatar, it always makes me smile when I see it.:)

Can you believe that our next adventure is only 2 weeks away? We have been talking about this ToT for six months and it's been a fast six months. You know we are really blessed to have our adventures to look forward to.

When I returned to Ky, after being gone for 25 years traveling the world with my military service, I saw lots of people I had gone to school with. They all remembered me but I didn't recognize any of them. Most had never ventured away from home more than just a quick vacation during that whole time. I wouldn't trade my experience and travels for anything. Erica and I love our travels and our adventures. We are so glad we found the WISH team and so many people who believe the way we do; that life is to short not to go after all the fun and the memories you can.pirate:

Have an awesome day y'all.:grouphug:

Nancy and Jeanne are joggers! How cool! :woohoo:

Oh Steff, bless your heart.......jogging 1/4 mile at a time does not a jogger make! I bet Nancy cracked up at that one just as much as I did. :lmao:

Welcome back, Dave....we missed you!

Maria: congrats on finishing your first event! Now that you've lost your race virginity, the rest will be easy! :thumbsup2

Nancy: I'm mad at you.....ever since you started talking about DQ, I've had a craving for a Blizzard.......and I don't even like ice cream! I mentioned it to John (who will jump on any excuse to eat ice cream) who said if I was craving it, my body must be NEEDING it (Yeah, try to get that one past Dr. Oz!) so off to DQ we went. I had a chocolate Snickers Blizzard. It was good, but that's enough ice cream for about a year for me! My waistline thanks you....NOT!

Dave:hippie:

That is so true. I was talking to Mark the other night about our adventure in Boston the other day. 6 Women from age 28 to 58 going to see Wicked. We had so much fun together. Laughing till we were crying most of the day. I could have bought them each something for Christmas or their birthday but you know, I bought them a memory that they will never forget. My niece Becky said it was the best thing I could have done for her. That says a lot. Of course she hadn’t been out with the girls in over 3 years since the birth of her son so that may have had something to do with it!

Wonderful memories that’s what being at Disney is all about too! I wish I could be there with all of you for TOT but I’ll catch up during Marathon weekend.

denise

I wholeheartedly agree with you Denise. I hate spending money on "things", but I am always up for splurging on a good time. Some of our acquaintances think we're nuts to spend so much money on momentary vacations and the like. They argue that they would rather put their money towards something that lasts, like big ticket items or home improvements. I don't think they realize that the great memories I have will last alot longer than their big screen TV!

I was laughing at Steff thinking we are joggers, I look more like something stuck in quicksand trying to get out.

Jeanne--You can be mad at me, but I bet John is loving me for putting that idea into your head.

The reason my house looks the way it does is because we spend our money on all those wonderful vacations. I love to look back at all the pictures we have with our family and friends over the years. Those memories will last a lifetime and I can look back on them in my old age with a smile.

Rest day for me. Tomorrow have to go to Baltimore to pick up my race packet. So no walking for me until Sat.

Have a great evening everyone.

Nancy

Yes our house looks like "Who did it and ran" most of the time, but we have a stang conv that knows the way to Disney World. The memories will be flowing like a river in 2 weeks.

Denise I can't wait to meet you, I'm sad you can't make ToT. But we will surely see you in January.

Jeanne, Nancy, Connie, Kathy, Maria, Kim all of you guys can't wait to meet all of you.

Dave:hippie:

Hi, everybody! Seems like a long time since I visited!

Everyone sounds in good spirits and ready to go ToT!!! So am I! I'm getting really excited!

Yes, all, Connie is amazingly self-sacrificing. So much so, that I'm afraid I just simply can't allow her to be carried (by me at least!) during ToT. I would feel so guilty allowing her to do that! So, I think she's going to have to walk on her own. Since she doesn't want to do the heelie thing, I guess I'LL have to be self-sacrificing and let her pull me across the finish line!!! At the rate she's going (you go, girl!!!! :woohoo: ) that's the only way I'm going to be able to keep up with her!

Maria, we ended up not riding horses. The stable is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so we drove up to the Royal Gorge and parked there (didn't pay the outrageous price to get in) and hiked around that area. And, believe me, "hike" is the word! It was fun, though, to go somewhere a little different for my walk. I had left my Garmin at home since I thought we'd be on horseback, so I don't know how far or fast we walked, but we were definitely hot and sweaty when we finished.

I have to say that after doing the Palo Duro Canyon 20k Trail race for my first race, I am quite sure that I can do about any kind of race!! Connie and I always say to one another when something comes up, "Well, we did Palo Duro, so that should be easy!" LOL! :rotfl: That was unbelievably difficult, but we both finished (maybe because they can't really come get you!!) and were pleased with our times. We actually were considering doing it again this fall when ToT came up and we quickly changed our minds! Like Connie said, we had no idea what we were signing up for and, had we known, we probably wouldn't have signed up! But, it's all good now!

Nancy, good luck in your race this weekend! I know you'll do great!

Dave, those 12 hour days can be a killer. Earlier this summer I was working 5 days a week at 11 to 12 hours each day. I have promised myself I'm not doing that to me any more! Once in a while is one thing, but I sure don't want to fall into the trap of doing it all the time. It's especially hard in the winter, I think, because I'd go to work in the dark and work through lunch and then go home in the dark. After a while, I started feeling like a mole. I work in an area that has no windows, so that made it worse.

Denise, I am sorry you won't be at ToT because I'm not going to be at marathon weekend, so I guess we won't be meeting any time soon.

Jeanne, you always give me a laugh! Thanks for that!

Tuesday was water aerobics for me and a rest day yesterday. I have to confess that I should have walked this evening after work, but I didn't. I weakly allowed myself to come home and get on the computer. Our office is having temperature problems. It's an old, old building that's been remodeled many times on the inside and so the heating/cooling system doesn't work like it was designed because walls and such are not in their original places. We always have temperature extremes (it's either too cold or too hot) and right now we're in a too hot phase. It was 80 degrees when we got in this morning and it only gets hotter throughout the day. I feel baked when I get out and tonight I just couldn't face the thought of going out in the hot sun and sweating for another hour. So I didn't. :guilty: As Scarlet says, though, "Tah-morrah iz anothah day" and I can be cool in the swimming pool before work!

You all keep up the good work!!!!

Kathy

Good morning, team!

I'm off and running today (figuretively, not literally) with lots of mundane tasks, so I'm not sure when i'll get back on.

Good luck to everyone that has an event this weekend, especially my buddy Nancy....YOU GO, GIRL!!!!!

Dave: I have to say that my family is really enjoying our 'marathon' trips! We get to pick a race (for Mom to run!), and everyone gets a vacation! My kids like the VA beach trip the best, but they loved Toronto also for my marathon! I have decided to keep doing 1/2 marathons though.....I was hurting after the marathon, and it limited our site-seeing. My next race is in North Carolina, the Run for Victory, and that is on my oldest son's birthday!

Nancy: I hope that your packet pick-up went well. Norm was waiting for me yesterday......delievered dinner in hand. I gave him some cookies too....hope that was ok! Good luck this weekend.......walk strong girlfriend!

Jeanne: Nancy did the same thing to me......made me hungry for DQ! Last Saturday, my dh ran to DQ for a chocolate peanut butter cup Blizzard! It was really good too (I held out with the craving for a week! Isn't that good enough????):confused3

Beth

Thanks for the good luck wishes for Sat. My friend and I picked our packets up last evening to avoid the Friday rush. I signed DH to volunteer to help occupy his time while I'm out there walking. I'm looking forward to eating after the race as there are many good restaurants in Baltimore so that will be my incentive to finish. Since the half doesn't start until 9:45am, I'm sure by the finish line I will be starved. Maybe if we pass a DQ along the way I can stop and get a blizzard to tide me over until the finish. :rotfl2: The heat won't be a problem, but the wind will be a factor. Hopefully, I will have the wind more at my back to push me along.

Beth---Thanks for the dropping off the subs and the cookies. As always your cookies were very good. She is a very good baker. Norm is signing you up to make our Christmas cookies since you know I won't be baking.

Dave--Good luck with your 10K.

Kathy-- Your and Connie friendship always reminds me of Jeanne and mine. Connie can pull you across and I'll let Jeanne do the same for me.

Have a great day everyone and enjoy the weekend.

Only 5 more days till WDW for me. After today only 2 more work days. Then Beth will have to be posting more since I will be gone.

Nancy good luck this weekend!!!!!!!!

Sorry gang I am so far behind in posts again, I have no idea what is going on. My training hasn't been very good this week, I think I am still recovering from training overload prior to my 1/2. However, tomorrow calls for a 9K and I will getter done!!!!!

Beth was dropping off subs and cookies???? I didn't get any:confused3

Dave: good luck on your 10K!!!!! Oh still have to remember to send you and Robert our cell #. Get that on the to do list.......

Just a quick check-in to wish our weekend racers luck! Have a wonderful time! (yes, I know that has a dual meaning!)

Hello Pretty Princesses:flower3:

I got BOOed this morning, thank you Jen, now I can't figure out how to post the hopping Mickey Pumpkin. I'm pretty dumb when it comes to technology. Hard to believe I work in the optical field. When glasses become electric I guess I'll have to retire.

Is everyone feeling the magic today? We are closing in on the final days till our adventure. Erica and I are really looking forward to meeting all of you.
