Walk from room to bus!

I guess that I just don't see the other side of the coin. The walk from the farthest room to the bus pick-up can be a bit of a walk, but it's pretty short compared to the amount you will walk being in the park all day. For the average person, I don't see that it's a major issue.

What resort are you talking about? That furthest room at POR is a whole heck of a lot further away that the furthest room at POFQ.

And after walking 10 miles in a park, I don't want to walk any further on my poor blistered feet than I have to at the resort.

And it's not just the bus stop. I don't want a 10 minute trek to the food court to get a cold drink or a snack, either.

Who is the "average person" at WDW? An able and fit young adult? A small, tired, cranky pre schooler? A grandparent with bad knees? All of these people should have no problem with long walking distances at a resort? IMO there is no such thing as an "average person" at WDW. They come in all sizes, shapes, physical condition, and needs.

Consider the walk from bus to room at the end of the day, rather than room to bus.

Doesn't make any difference at all to me, but it does to some.

DITTO!

For me it is not about the bus stop, but food, refills, snack at night, etc.

Have only stayed at the Values. I'm an in-the-park all day person and only use the hotel as a place to sleep and to take a shower. I guess what I don't understand are the comments like "the LM rooms at AoA are too far away from the main building." But do you ever hear someone say that Splash Mtn. is too far away from the Magic Kindgom Main entrance? The walk at the resort is alot shorter than in the park.

Maybe it doesn't bother you...it doesn't bother me either because I can spend an entire trip without once ever going to the resort food court...but believe me there are a great many people who think that a 10 minute walk just to grab a mug of Coke and a sandwich is way too long. They're not wrong, either. It's what they prefer.

There are also those who do not vacation the way you do, and do more than just sleep at the hotel.

We've had a few "seemingly far" walks to our room over the years, at POR and CBR. After the parks, it was a tough trek. We were OK in the park, then at the wait for the resort bus we would start to unwind and realize how wobbly and tired we were. On the bus ride, we practically collapsed and it was hard not to fall asleep. Finally, the bus arrived at the resort, and we didn't walk -- we slowly trudged, like a family of Frankensteins. Right then, it would have been great to have a room closer to the bus.

That's the difference. Those of us who spend any time at the resort, especially a "resort day", do so to relax. After walking in the parks all day every day, the last thing we want to do is trek a mile anywhere. Especially for something like a snack or drink. Plus, everyone expects a lot of walking in the parks. Not everyone may realize how big the resorts are, so they may be taken aback by the distances. And when you want convenience in a resort, the LM rooms at AoA are not really convenient.

For the average person, it shouldn't be a major issue. I don't think a 10 minute walk is really that bad.

That's the other thing that shocks me sometimes, with comments and reviews about certain resorts. "The food court was packed, the bus service was bad". With the volume of information that is available these days, how can people not understand what you are getting into.

Not everyone frequents WDW boards. Where would they see all this?

Yes!!! But they must be in a terrible shape.

I can understand from disabled or really old people... But otherwise, I can't ever imagine. I guess they have cars. ;)

I remember a couple of years ago, reading a review of All-Star Sports on a different web site. The lady writing the bad review was shocked and upset that she had to walk outside to get to her room. A quick look at the Disney website or Google Earth would have given her that information. We as consumers have to educate ourselves about what to expect when we are handing over our money. I have been at the bus pickup outside the MK at closing time waiting on the bus to go to the All-Stars. Waited thru 2 or 3 buses before my turn to get on, wasn't happy about it, but had done my homework and knew what to expect. If we educate ourselves about what to expect, life's a lot more enjoyable.

Yep, that is very true.

A friend of mine on FB ranted and ranted about WDW after she returned with her family last week. She had no idea how hot and crowded it would be.

She says "Why would anyone choose to pick this place as a vacation destination? And this is the "most magical place on Earth? I think not!"

Well, come to find out she didn't do her homework. She had no idea about ADR's or anything. I told her, next time, figure out what you need to do and go from there.

Anyway, I feel bad for those who spend thousands of dollars, only to have a not so great experience.

I agree - people should be doing due diligence, especially when spending that kind of money on a vacation. But people don't. Or if they read reviews, they take it with a grain of salt and a "I'll decide for myself" approach. Or they may be of the mindset that distance is relative, so what's far for you may not be for me or vice versa.

Our family of 5 was placed in the farthest out Ranchos room at CSR. It took 10-15 minutes EACH WAY to get to the main building. After a full day in the parks, it was a bit much for my kids tired little legs to head over and fill up their mugs.
1. I did my homework, and I knew how big the resort was. I made a room request, and it was not met.
2. I am not "out of shape". However, I have young kids who tire after walking several miles in a day.
3. I consider myself to be fairly "average", and my opinion still differs from yours.
4. Even if I didn't have tired kids...I STILL would not be happy with a 20-30 minute round trip to grab a refill or visit the main building. I like to be close to the amenities. Just my opinion.

It is all a matter of opinion. Neither side is right or wrong. That is the beautiful part of a Disney vacation. You can book a resort to fit your needs. Now, when I stay at a moderate, I know to book preferred so we will be closer to the main building and it's amenities.

I walk all day long at work. I'm not in terrible shape, I would never last a day at work! I don't mind walking in the parks, but the last thing I want at a resort is a 10 minute hike to get my mug refilled.

We have taken the train from the main entrance to Frontierland for this exact reason! :)

Background on myself:) Out of shape(big time), been going since 1st DD was 6 month, have had up to 2 strollers and on this DIS subject we are a minority:rotfl: We have no issues with a 10 minute oneway walk, and have many times gotten off the bus at the front of our resort, after a full day at parks, so that we can enjoy the stroll back to our room, that may be at the other end. I very much like the early morning walk to the FC to bring back breakfast, my oldest DD now insists on getting up to join me:love: We enjoy the work WDW puts in the theming of their resorts and try to enjoy it. I watch so many families rushing to get to the parks and then rushing later to get back to their rooms. How is that enjoyable or relaxing? We make an effort to take our time and enjoy the sights, sort of like "take time to smell the roses".
