Waitlist Came Thru! VWL first timers!

We had to change reservations that we made at the 11 month mark from May to June (we were staying at BCV originally) and got SSR when we moved to June. We waitlisted for BCV, BWV and VWL. Tonight I logged onto the member site and the VWL had come thru

So, VWL lovers, please fill me in on your resort! What is not to miss and how can I make the most of our week stay? We have always stayed at our two homes (BWV and BCV) with one two night stay at SSR (booked same day as checkin) for our only stay away from our homes since joining in 2000.

We are very excited to try a new DVC resort!

We are also taking our 4 year old goddaughter on her first trip to Disney, eating at the CR, Poly, GF for three of our meals, we were planning on driving, is there easy transportation between these close resorts?

Take the boat to MK and hop on the monorail or walk to Contemporary. I'd think twice about using the car because parking at those resorts can be a nightmare.

If I'm staying offsite, I usually just drive to the TTC and use the monorail when I'm doing a meal at a lagoon resort. Makes it much easier for me to move about from resort to park. I don't fancy circling full lots for 30 minutes.

You'll love VWL.......it's just sooooo relaxing.....one of our favorite things to do at our home resort is spend a lazy, relaxing hour or so on Bay Lake on a pontoon boat. Another (if you don't mind the sore legs afterward....) is to rent bikes and ride over to Ft. Wilderness on the walking path. It's a nice way to spend an hour or so if it's not too hot. DH and both DS's love to get comfy in the evening with flannel lounge pants (we're usually there in January so it's a bit cooler) and a good book and just wander downstairs to the Iron Spike Room or the lobby of WL and hang out and read for awhile. Our 5 yr old grandson loves the pool at WL and it's not unusual for the ducks to go for a swim in the pool also, especially in the evening when it's less crowded. Have a great time. We'll be at WDW from 5/20 thru 5/24, but, not at VWL ....this is a last minute trip (airfare just TOO good to pass up) and DH and I decided to take GS for a few days ......just the 3 of us....so we're at OKW...our first stay there.

I hope you enjor the VWL. My recommendation would be leave your luggage in the car, walk into the lodge lobby, sit down, relax and enjoy the the spirt of the wilderness lodge.

Trust me, it's quit soothing. ask any "groupie" it is truely unique
to our "home"

Congratulations on your waitlist coming through. We love VWL!

There are two boats that run from the VWL...one is larger and goes to the MK and another smaller boat runs to the CR (and FW if I remember correctly).

Congratulations on getting one of your waitlist choices to come through! I think you will be glad that VWL came up in the "waitlist lottery".

So, VWL lovers, please fill me in on your resort! What is not to miss and how can I make the most of our week stay? We have always stayed at our two homes (BWV and BCV) with one two night stay at SSR (booked same day as checkin) for our only stay away from our homes since joining in 2000.

VWL is a very laid back resort. There is much to explore while immersing yourself in its detailed theming. Besides the decor, you will see little touches like the great music that is played both inside and outside the resort. Also things like animal tracks in the cement that your goddaughter will really enjoy. And of course a geyser that is kind enough to spew every half hour just like clockwork!

At night there is the Electrical Water Pageant that you can enjoy from the beach (there is also a play area on the beach).

Your goddaughter might be a little young for the Hidden Mickey hunt that Guest Services will provide a sheet of clues for, but I'm sure she'll appreciate seeing some of those as you point them out. Don't forget this little guy in the VWL foyer:

If you are planning on driving you can just drive over there. Very short drive to each of them. But if you aren't particularly rushed, my favorite way of getting there would be to take the Bay Lake boat that circulates between WL - FW - Contemporary over to the CR and from there take the monorail to any of the resorts on the monorail.

Enjoy your trip....it will be a great one I'm sure!

We tried to change our Spoodles reservation to Wispering Canyon Cafe today (for our last night) and the only time avail was 840pm I never realized it was such a popular restaurant!

I hope you get to switch your reservation to 'The Canyon'. I'll bet as it gets closer something will open up. You might want to just stop by and ask them ahead of time if they take walk-ins. We had a lot of success with that one trip that we did not have a full understanding of how DD had affected the restaurants.

I, too, am a 'Groupie'. I confess. Granny and the others have given great advice. It is a special place indeed. Soothing and unique. Let us know how you liked it!

We are going in May and I just can't wait! It is the most beautiful resort. It has an atmosphere all it's own. Just sit in the Lobby and get a feel for it. Of all the transporations, the boat is one of my favorites, next to the Monorail. Walk the trails, at night watch the water pagent from the dock.
