Waiting to buy more Poly

We bought a very small Poly contract (70 points) direct last summer. We have since used points to add one night stay to previously planned trips at AKV and BWV. We really like the program/system and also used our membership to get the gold pass, which saved us a lot of money this past year.

In October we will be staying at Poly for the first time with our points (and ever) and intend to buy more there if we like it. As a family of three with no plans to get larger (DD is almost 6), studios should continue to be fine for us, so it is just a matter of trying out the location, resort theme, and rooms.

While waiting seems prudent, I am starting to get a bit worried that there may not be points left to buy direct in October. I prefer to buy direct since it will be a small add on and we will want the same use year. I'm also worried that waiting will just mean paying more, as prices have gone up since we've bought and the current price seems set only until the end of May.

It seems based on the latest sales data that there is at least 7.5 months of supply left, which would make it close, but still OK. However, does each resort only sell a set amount of each use year? Any thoughts on further price increases?

Thanks in advance for any perspectives!

I would wait, stay at other resorts and buy resale once you find out which you love more than the PVB. Being able to book your favorite resort at 11 months is the only way to go IMO. Also having access to one bedrooms may be worth it in the future. We don't stay in studios anymore.

$0.02: CCV sales should also be starting soon. That will increase buyer's choices and may pull some buying interest from Poly. If so, that could slow down Poly's sell-out timeline.

I am like you and only bought 70pts at the Poly and want to add 30 more points to round out at 100. We are only two and not even sure if we want kids at this point. We are waiting to add as we want to make a car purchase first and can work with the 70 with banking since we only take short 3-5 day trips every year. Since we have a Dec use year, I am not super worry that I won't be able to buy more when I want to. I think I have seen somewhere that there are a good amount of points allocated to Dec.

CCV started selling in April. Deeds are already recorded for CCV sales.

It won't be sold out - I'd just wait until you see if you like it enough to buy more points there.

I believe last time they gave owners a warning before increasing the prices ("Last Chance to Buy before the price goes up!" sort of thing), so I think you will know if the prices are going to go up.

It depends on how many points you are looking to add on. It sounds like your original contract is 70 points so a week in a poly studio can be around 160's (depending on season) If planning on yearly week long trips i could see you adding on at least 100 more points. Seeing as though you already have a direct contract and have the perks associated with that contract. Keep an eye out for a resale contract to add on the points. You could keep with poly same UY or venture to one of the other resorts and actually save your self quite a bit of $$ buying a 100 point contract else where, then with banking you could just do every other year poly and another resort. Really work the numbers for different resale resorts also include closing costs -- direct i believe is a little cheaper, but if you are saving a bunch on a resale then it might negate the closing cost savings. It doesn't really make any sense to buy direct other than it being a quicker and slightly easier route.

There are a lot of 50 point contracts, fully loaded, up for sale through several resale brokers right now. You should shop around before buying direct.

All great advice. I do regularly stalk the resale listings, but my August use year doesn't seem to come up much and all of the small contracts go so fast that by the time I see them they are gone! And we will only consider resorts on the monorail or boardwalk, which further limits our options and the size of the deal we can reasonably expect to get. The add on at Poly would probably only be 50 points or less, not necessarily enough for a full week each year.

That said, you guys have convinced me to sit tight for at least a little while longer, see how things play out, and continue to stalk resales. I totally forgot they had done the "last chance at this price" thing before and was falsely equating the promotion ending soon with a possible increase. At least that worry is set aside. I wonder if there is a way to learn how much August use year is left?

Thanks again!
