Waiting for Buses

We usually just talk to each other about what we have done so far that day, or we talk about what we are going to do for the rest of the day. We look at pictures on our phone, we change our FP plans if we need to, we talk to the people in line in front of or behind us. DH and DS might be involved with playing a game on their phones and they talk about the game strategy (while I tune them out). It's not like it's such a long wait that we are getting bored to tears and wondering what we should do with ourselves.

I think my own thoughts. Sometimes all the hustle and bustle in the parks gets to me, and I like to stand and think, all kinds of thoughts.

We usually tend to strike up a conversation with other folks in line, or just talk amongst ourselves about our plans for that day or what we enjoyed doing most.

Fun story about the 'name game': In a past job, I was responsible for supporting phone carrier acceptance testing for a major smartphone company. That meant I got to ride around in the test van - exactly like the "can you hear me now" guy from TV!

Except they didn't say "can you hear me now?" - they played a name game. Their version was a little different, though - they picked a popular franchise (Simpsons, Star Wars, etc.) and named one character per call, while the receptionist on the other end of the line had a master list of characters open on their computer.

"Hello?" "Moe" "Correct!" <click>
"Hello?" "Principal Skinner" "Correct!" <click>

This satisfied the technical requirement that a real conversation take place, while alleviating the crushing boredom of riding around rural North Carolina for hours on end making fifteen second phone calls...

Anyway, could be a nice alternative version to play in lines - pick a franchise and compete to name as many characters as you can, while a referee has IMDB open on their phone or tablet. It gets pretty challenging after a while!

I live in London, England so I'm well used to taking the bus everywhere- and used to having long waits for the next bus to arrive! I don't do anything different from what I do at home. Look around, read on phone, talk to people I'm with. Usually burns 20 minute waits just fine. And at least I'm going somewhere fun rather then boring at home errands!!

threads like this make me laugh, Im guessing you dont take the bus in your day to day life. I dont drive so my only transport is by bus. Sometimes after work the bus could turn up in 5 minutes or 25 minutes depending on traffic. Waiting on a bus at Disney is no big deal :)

Total agreement. I don't think Disney World visitors who live in major cities think twice about the buses. I know I don't. I grew up in New York, I live in Chicago. I've never really understood why people complain so much about them. For tens of millions of people in this country, they're perfectly normal parts of everyday life.

DD and I regularly play "Disney Bingo". Ok its really rude of us but still fun.

Oh look, the 5 inch stiletto heels!
Daisy Duke shorts!
"I spent a lot of money on this trip and we are going to have fun!!!!"
Smoking outside a designated area.

We have played versions of this for years. And we are always coming up with new "behaviors" to add to the list!

I understand the OP's sentiments. However, I find it funny that some people stand and wait for an attraction for 30 minutes or more but have no patience waiting 20 minutes for a bus....Again, I am not accusing the OP of this....just my observations from many trips. I spend the time waiting for a bus just well.....waiting. There's not much more you can do....

Since I like to "wing it" at the parks sometimes, conversations are often about where to go. Let's say I've got a FastPass at Tower of Terror at 9AM and the next one is for Star Tours at 11:30. Part of that involves figuring out what would be the best fit in between there. Should we go to a show like Little Mermaid or attempt to hit RnRC? Maybe that's when we hit the shops since Tower of Terror's gift shop and Mickey's of Hollywood are both there? Perhaps go to something tame like a show after grabbing a quick breakfast along Sunset Boulevard?

Other times, it has nothing to do with the parks and may be a random conversation about, say, whether or not Han Solo actually died in Force Awakens.

Thank you OP for the great ideas. We are from a rural area and do not have a public transportation system. We have never had problems coming up with conversation on buses or in line, but are traveling with friends who have a 5 year old. These will be perfect to entertain her while her mom and dad interact with her little sister.
