Wait list - curious if this has happened to anyone else ?

I had a reservation at WLV for the week of June 21 in a 1BR and asked to be put on the waitlist for either BWV or BCV (aslo 1BR). I made this reservation about a month ago.

My DD has been asking (and asking !) me if we were able to get moved to BW - she will be celebrating her b'day and really wants to stay at BW ... so I told her I would call and check on the waitlist.

So, here's where my question comes in ... have you ever called about your status on the waitlist and feel like you were offered availability that you may not have known about if you didn't call?

First, MS checked on the waitlist and said sorry, nothing came up. Then I asked if maybe just a few days in the beginning or end of the trip might be available if I was willing to change resorts mid stay. Well, she said the first 2 or last 2 nights are available if I would like them. When I said I would take the last 2, she asked if I could hold and then came back on and said she could give me the last 4 nights. I then asked if I could have the first 2 and last 4 and just waitlist for the one night that wasn't available ... she says sure !!!

This seems so odd to me ... don't you think there were other poeple on the waitlist for these nights? Does anybody know who they contact when they put you on hold ?

I am certainly not complaining ... my DD will be thrilled !!! I made a cash reservation for the 1 night I am still waitlisted for ($435 rack rate ...gulp) just in case ... I am hopeful that night will open up, too. And you can bet I WILL be calling them very frequently to check on the status ;)

Has anyone else had this experience ? I would definately say if you are on the waitlist for something, keep calling ... you never know !

Cindy :D

Cindy,

This is defenitely true and I have posted that recommendation before. Once it get closer to the time, they can call the resort and possibly use cash rooms that aren't being occupied. They won't do it far out but with 60-90 days you can ask them to "check with the resort directly if there is anyway to free up a room.:"

Glad you got what you wanted.

Enjoy
Sandy

You were likely wait listed for the entire stay and unless everything came up at once, you would not get anything. Once you get inside the last 30-60 days things tend to open up anyway. Many have posted the same experience as you, getting things when they called that they hadn't gotten otherwise. Good luck on the last day.

Cindy -

Just reread your post. I had the same thing for President's Week this past year. It opened up about 2 1/2 weeks out. My recommendation is have your cash ressie with MS as an auto cancel and put yourself on the "up to 7 days outs waitlist". This increases your chances. [I would also call about 2 weeks out and have them "check Inventory" with the hotel.]

Thanks
Sandy
