We have 2, 20 something DD's so thought it would be fun to do 2 nights in Waikiki before our 5 nights in Aulani.

We will get some groceries on the way to Aulani. But, does anyone know an easy grocery store on our way to Hilton Hawaiian Village from the airport. We will have a fridge so would like to get some drinks and snacks for the room and maybe a few non perishable breakfast items.

Also, would the ocean house just for pupus and drinks be a nice place for our first night in hawaii or too much?? Thinking it's walking distance.

If not, suggestions for heavy appetizers or light dinner to walk to first night.

As always, appreciate the help!

If staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village first there are ABC stores on every block. I would also shop at the Foodland that is located ground floor near Sears. To get the best prices you need to fill out a card to get the cheaper prices. Foodland is located in the Alamoana Shopping Center. There is plenty of parking spots . There is also a Safeway not far from the Hilton -- Same as a Von's Everything is close in Hawaii. If you eat lots of cereal I would just bring that from home. I have been known to even freeze lunch meats as well as breakfast meats for use on trip.

If you have a rental car you could go to costco in town in Iwilei. Take Nimitz Highway from airport and go left on Alakea. From Costco go back to Nimitz highway and you'll get to Ala Moana park and shopping center and bam you're at Hilton. Can also stop on way to Aulani or there is a costco off of H2 freeway if you want.

Not sure of ocean house. There is a Chart House near Ilikai hotel. Sorrento's on top of Ilikai has great views. Shorebird in the Outrigger Reef has ocean views and you grill your own food and have a salad bar. Look for coupons in magazines to get percentage off. Drop some serious change and eat at La Mer in the Halekulani. We like Duke's for the ocean views near the Moana Surfrider

There's an ABC store in the Hilton Hawaiian Village also. We liked Duke's too. We've never been to Ocean House. The breakfast buffet in the Rainbow Tower is a must do for us, especially if you can get a table by the water. Just don't leave your food unattended or the birds will take advantage!

A couple bits of trivia - The USS Minnow (Gilligan's Island) sets sail for its 3 hour tour from the marina just next to the HHV. Elvis's Aloha from Hawaii concert in 1973 shows him landing by helicopter on the beach at the HHV. He would stay in the Ali'i Tower when in Honolulu.

As mentioned, there are tons of ABC Stores around but I would def try to bring anything you can - we were shell-shocked our first grocery trip in HI.

As for dining, you will find the HHV on the south edge of Waikiki with the hundreds of great restaurants starting there all along Waikiki. So many to choose with lots of variety. We always enjoyed Duke`s and Roy`s but there are so many great choices from big name to tiny mom&pop. I only say this because it might be worthwhile to walk and let your whims pull you in to what jumps at you.

Have a blast and enjoy! We spent many a Friday night at the beach near HHV splashing and watching the fireworks. Miss it terribly!

Thanks for the trivia!

And, thanks everyone!

There should also be a Target that you can hit on the way down to Waikiki as well.
