Visiting Resorts while staying offsite

Hi, My family is traveling to WDW in June. We are staying offsite, but we thought that it might be fun to visit one of the Disney Resorts and have lunch (with reservations of course).

My questions are....

Are there other things to do at the Resorts beside eat for families that are not staying there.

What are the best resorts to go to for families that are staying off site?

I was thinking of making reservations at a restaurant at the Animal Kingdom Lodge because of the animals. But I am open to anything fun.

Thanks.

Head over to Contemporary and ride a racer. Go to GF and hit the spa. Hit the boardwalk because there's a whole world to explore there. Go see Yeehaa Bob at POR.

AKL would be a good one. Love Boma! And there's the Savana viewing on porch off lobby, or go downstairs and walk out to Arusha Rock viewing area. They have a great gift shop too.then you can stroll over to Kidani and check their Savanna.

Boma doesn't serve lunch only dinner and breakfast. Trail's End would be nice (cheap too) and there are lots of activities at Fort Wilderness (pony rides, archery, campfire sing a long with Chip and Dale, etc)

A PP mentioned POR, however Yeeha Bob's show is at night starting at 8:30ish 4 nights a week. A resort in the Boardwalk area might work for restaurants serving lunch (Capt. Grill ESPN and Big River) but it never seems a lot is going on during the day. We usually eat lunch 1 or 2 times a trip at one of those restaurants but we're staying on property with park hoppers are no longer park commandos & aren't looking for things to do other than a good meal. Maybe going to DTD for lunch and checking out the shops, going bowling or a movie might be an other option.

Here are a few ideas around the deluxe resorts and things to do while visiting:
At the Poly in the afternoon there are hula lessons and lei making lessons.
At the WL there is a Hidden Mickey scavenger hunt - also very fun to tour the lobby and the grounds
At FW - visit the ponies at the ranch, rent bikes, try out archery
At the Boardwalk - visit Community Hall and take part in the afternoon activities (crafts and games)

Idk how old your kids are (if any) but my preschooler loved visiting AoA last time. The Cars area is really neat!

Just did this on our Universal trip

The Universal parks closed early so we made a somewhat late dinner reservation at Sanaa. We went to Downtown Disney and then headed over to the resort and saw the animals before dinner. And then walked to Jambo House afterwards and got Zebra Cakes at the Mara for desert.

It was a great experience and I would certainly do it again. If you have a car and a free night I say go for it!

I agree with others, for kids the AKL would be my choice, dinner, some animal viewing, and lobby exploring, very enjoyable evening.

Thank you so much. I am so appreciative of all of these great suggestions. I will sit down with the girls (10 and 8) and see what they would like to do.
