I was just wondering I am looking for the best way to take my spending money down to Disney...... Here is what I was thinking, need some advice on the best way to go ....

1. Just take cash for all and only take to the parks what I need each day

2. Disney gift card

3. Visa prepaid card ( i have heard not that all places accept it)

Please Help me :confused3

Anywhere that accepts a Visa will take a Visa gift card. Many times Visa and other companies charge a fee to buy a gift card. I would not waist money on a Visa gift card. Personally I going to charge everything to my room or use my debit card if we go to one of the non-Disney owned places (like at DTD) but I'll carry a little cash with me for the few places that don't take cards. (I think there are only a few carts here and there that don't take cards.)

It looks like you are staying on site, why not just charge to your room? Are you concerned you will overspend?

We take ONE credit card with us and charge everything to that..
We write down the card # and phone number on the back of the card in case something happens ( like forgetting the card somewhere)

We are going to try linking our CC to our room key this next trip!
Hope it works out for you

We took pre paid Visa's $100.00 for each adult and $50 for each child.

DD 16 and DS 14... This was there money from us to get what they wanted without asking.

We actually came home with one of the $100.00 that we didnt use.

We do not use a credit card per say. We have our debit card and this just was controlled way the debit transactions.

We also took two $25 AMC cards. we watched eclipse and Toy Story 3D while were were there. Eclipse at the AMC at DTD and TS3d at Universal's AMC

the bad part of Visa Gift cards is that unlike usual gift cards they wont take remainders off and leave a balance it all or nothing... If you have a 25 dollar card and try to pay for a 30 dollar purchase it would decline instead of taking 25 bucks off and you pay 5.

If you know how much is exactly left you just need to tell the cashier charge 6.58/25/33.21 etc to this card and then pay the remainder...

I'd vote for Disney gift cards- you get a balance remaining every time you use it and its accepted everywhere at wdw (baring some participants and food carts)

Should I wait and buy the gift cards at Disney when we get there or should i order them online before I go ...

There is really no advantage to either. Just remember you need to treat gift cards like cash. If they are lost or stolen there is not much if anything that can be done.

I suggest getting travelers checks. You can cash them at check-in to put on your room for charging, then get any $$ back you don't spend when you check out. Check with your bank, they might give you them for free or discount.

Actually I think that if you keep the sales receipt (it has the gift card number on it and the activation codes) or write down the gift card number/take a picture of the back of the gift card - however you want to do it, just save the number separately from the card! - you may be able to get a replacement card if yours is lost or stolen. They can look up how much is left on the card and MAY issue you a new card. I know they will do this for cards that have been demagnetized, damaged, or for whatever reason just don't work.

Of course Disney is under no obligation to do this just because you SAY your card has been lost/stolen, or there would be hundreds of people every day with "lost" cards... but it's possible and it does happen. At least that's potentially better than cash.

Also you can write your name & phone number on the gift card and hope that if it's lost an honest person finds it. We have turned in several found cards that had no ID info on them (it would have been SO easy to keep them but what kind of message does that send to the kids? Or to myself, for that matter?) but if they had info on them, they could have been returned to their owner.

It's all just a matter of personal preference. Another advantage of a Visa prepaid card is that if it's not all spent, unlike a WDW gift card, you aren't stuck with spending the remainder only on Disney things.

we got a disney gift card for my daughter at the disney store in our area. it was great and there was no fee for it like you pay for visa. I'm sorry but I will not pay 4 or 5 dollars to get a visa card. They are making enough money. The disney gift card was accepted everywhere and you got your balance with each purchase. it was great.

We do what some pp's have mentioned -- charge everything to the room key and carry a little cash for those few carts/kiosks that don't accept the room key as payment. Then we go to the front desk at some point during our stay and use our cash/gift cards/rewards cards to pay off the balance. You can get an itemized printout of your charges at the front desk any time during your stay. We usually do that every few days just to keep an eye on what we're spending.
