Virgin flying miles

Be flexible, I had to be when I went in May, the only way I could get the dates I wanted was to go out for 13 days instead of my usual 14 and get in quick when you make your decision as you may miss out.

Great thanks. Do you mean wuick as in the day flights are listed?

Pretty flexible on date out and possibly return.

Planning out of school hols and midweek flights which i hope will help.

How soon after flights released did you book? And was it a busy time of year?

Keep checking daily and, as already said, be ready to book when you see what you want as reward seats (even M+M) are usually limited.

go in November...I've never had any problem with reward flights or M+M then. We are lucky in that we can go when we want to as not tied to school hols or work commitments. This year is M+M and I am in DD!:cool1:

Also consider booking one way, this year we're going outbound in upper class and booked that with Virgin. The return I then waited and waited and finally got £400 one way in economy on AA which I've upgraded to extra legroom.

Total price for 4 in August £3100 with probably our once in a lifetime taste of upper class!

We did have a lot of miles to spend though.

Have enough to do similar but will prob do out econ back premium econ to keep cash costs down. Plus not sure a pre schooler would cope too well in a first class seat

But you'll be too stretched out asleep or too busy at the bar to notice!!!!!!!!!

You see, I wouldn't choose PE back as it's nowhere near the benefit of the daytime flight. With a dark cabin and a much reduced cabin service, you might as well be in economy I'd say.

With a little one, the extra space in the bump on the 747 is worth it's weight during the day even now they've crammed all those economy seats in (the main reason we avoid Virgin now to be fair, I think that was a disgustingly cynical move on Virgin's part)

I figured it would be easier to sleep in pe on the way back as i ve always slept well in pe. Ironically on last trip the plabe was so quiet we probably could have lay down in economy!!!!

I see whay you mean about missing out on stuff but sleep is my main motivation!

Depending on where you are going look at purchasing miles. DD's boyfriend expressed a wish to come on the planned Disney Double I'm looking at next year, I told her, if it were allowed that would purchase miles for him that way (he would pay me back) she wasn't impressed until I showed her the difference in price, the itinerary is Heathrow to LA, internal flight to Orlando (not paid for with points £120 approx) Orlando to Gatwick would cost 42,000 points plus £256 taxes, the points would cost just under £700 so under £1000 maximum (if I have spare points then the less we'd need to buy) then I showed her the cost of a one way to LA, £1350. Huge difference, she also took my keyring Tesco clubcard as my points go towards VFC miles and is going to use it for her shopping to get the extra points. It's not so cost effective doing an Orlando round trip, but, you do still save, however, doing a package is better and you get FC points towards free flights one day.

I did extra legroom seats on my return trip in May, they do make a huge difference, I was really surprised. November's trip I missed out on booking an exit seat, but, got an extra legroom seat going out, I'm doing PE coming back so I'm going to see if, apart from being able to bring an extra piece of luggage back, if it justifies the extra cost.
