Virgin car rental

Hi sorry not been on the boards for a very long time but I'm finally going back.

Can anyone give me more info about virgin car insurance we haven't paid any extras yet cause it cost loads and we could get a whole other car for that. All we really want is 1 additional driver and they say we can only do this with the platinum package for £395!!!!

So to my actual questions lol.

If we do just stick to our basic insurance that we get with our car. Is there anything extra we really have to pay when we get there? I know it's only 3rd party but I could live with that if I have to.

Also on the online check in do you get the option to add additional drivers and things separately or is it still just the platinum package option?

You really should not have the basic insurance. It is wholly insufficient. Shop around for car deals with proper insurance and you may well find a deal cheaper than the Virgin one. You don't have to take the free car. It's not free because you DO also need to buy the insurance. I got three free extra drivers this year with the Alamo Brits deal. Now. I don't need them, but they were free!!

I think the extra insurance is almost essential giving the ridiculous liabilities you could be left with. Its all a bitnof a con from virgin!

A way you van save money, and i ve never done this, is buy your hire car insurance through another website. Will show how much cash virgin must make on car insurance!

You would be able to add an additional driver at the desk, just checked with Alamo/Brits deal and its $9.99/day.

As said basic insurance given with a "free" car is not adequate. You will either have to upgrade (platinum includes extra drivers and tank of gas so that could be best option, you need to compare) or ignore the Virgin car and rent elsewhere.
