Hi all!!!! I just got hooked on the Vinylmation and had some questions. How do I tell which ones will be more valuable in the future? Right now I am collecting the toy story collection and noticed they are LE. How do I tell what they are limited edition of? Also, I would love to know more about how trading works. Is it the same as pins? Thanks to all who post and I can't wait to learn more about these creative collectibles.

Trading Vinylmations is kind of like pin trading, in that you can trade with the cast members. There are two ways to trade: mystery box and clear box.

The mystery box is black with numbered cubby holes. You pick a number and trade for the one that is behind that number. It's a mystery trade because you don't know what you are going to get. According to the official rules you must trade for the one that comes out, but some CM will let you "cancel" the trade if you don't like the one that comes out. Some CM will also let you try more then once. It's best to ask what the rules are before starting a trade.

There are also clear boxes that have between 3 and 6 (usually) figures inside. You can trade for any one as long as the Vinylmation you are offering is not already in the clear box. This is mosg like pin trading.

Techincally you can only trade once per day with each mystery box and clear box. However you can trade with multiple boxes in each day ( i.e., if you came across 5 clear boxes in one day you can trade with all 5).

The artist card is not required for the trade. All figures, except the ones you customize, can be traded.

Thanks for your post that helps a lot. Anyone know how to tell what the Vinylmation figures are LE of? Also does anyone know if all Vinylmation end up valuable in the future like the original park series Vinylmation or if that was just because they were the first ones?

No one can say for sure which sets or figures are going to be valuable in the future. Like most things, the first ones are usually worth more just because they were the first. However, if Vinylmations hadn't caught on, then those wouldn't be worth very much either.

Overall, my guess says that in the future, if you're hoping to make money from the Vinymations you're going to need complete sets (with chaser).

The idea of making vinyl versions of characters is cool. Fitting them all on Mickey is not. Please stop the square peg into round hole thing.

The 3 inch toy story vinylmations are not limited edition. They are limited release. You may be thinking of the 9 inch ones. On the nine inch ones, the Zurg and Bo Peep figures will have an edition size of 1200, while the Little Green Men figure have an edition size of 1500.

This is the difference between limited release and limited edition and how to tell the difference.

"Limited Release" means that a figure or collection will only be available for a certain period of time. Once a Limited Release figure or collection is gone, they're gone. We will "retire" (or stop producing) limited release items in order to make way for new limited release items. There is not a finite production number limited release items.

"Limited Edition" means there will be a finite number of a certain Vinylmation™ figures, collection or item manufactured and sold. The "foot stamp" (the text on the bottom of the figure) on the figure will list the edition size. The edition size may also be listed on the packaging.

Once a limited edition item sells out, it will not be re-ordered again. For Guests, this is a unique opportunity to own a very special Vinylmation™ item. For example, if a figure has an edition size of 500, this means that you could be one of 500 people on planet Earth to own that item.

And as far as the value, no one really knows, however, I highly doubt that the majority of sets will get to be as valuable as park series 1. Plain and simply, they are more popular now, so more are made and sold. IMO, the ones that are going to be the most valuable in the future are going to be the limited editions with the smallest numbers. Any LE with a small number, such as 100 or 500 are going to be hard to get, making them more valuable since there are less of them.
