Vintage toys...what do you remember??

Did anyone actually have a Blythe doll from 1972? I would give anything to have one of those!

I'd keep my eyes peeled for one for you but I'd be afraid you'd try to taste it or something.

I used to have a Chrissie doll. You could yank on her hair and make it longer or turn a dial in her back and make it shorter. Somedays I wish I could do that to my own hair! :teeth:

I still have her! ( and Barbie, Ken, Midge, Allen, and Skipper! )

Ok, here is one off of the beaten path. What was that stuff called that came in a little tube and you would put it on a tiny straw to blow "amazing bubbles" that you could toss etc.....?
Also, nobody has metioned those "Sea Monkey"things, remember you would set up the water and drop in the contents of the envelope and "Awhole community would appear".

I could sit for hours playing with this!

And here's a link to old pictures of kids playing with their toys - I LOVE these pics! (they are also put to the tune of "Zip a dee do dah" :teeth: )

OMG>>> I forgot about my monkey until I saw your picture! His name was Zippy and I absolutely loved him. My mother threw him out because he was ripped. I must have blocked it out. (It was quite traumatic... I almost had to go into therapy.) I'm 52, she's 82 and I still have forgiven her for that one!

I feel the same way. I remember one year, I must have been four or five or so, I got a plastic Noah's ark for Christmas. You pulled the top off and inside were all the animals in different colors. It was pretty cheaply made but it was the one toy I treasured that holiday. I played with it constantly. My Mom would always yell at me, "RICKY! Pick up your animals!"

Several years back, my parents were visiting Joe and I and we happened upon that very same toy in a little store in SoHo. I practically jumped out of my skin when I saw it and immediately started playing with it on the shelf. Immediately, I launched into the "Hey Ma, remember when...?" "Dad, remember when you had to help me figure out how to put all the animals back inside?" Such a simply little toy that brought back so many memories for my parents and I.

Nicest thing to happen was that same year, a few months later, on Christmas day, Santa brought that very same toy for me. Mom went back to the store during that trip and bought if for me.

Great story!!! :goodvibes I also had no idea gnip gnop was ping pong spelled backwards! LOL!

Sounds like the one I had- but mine definitely had dark hair. I too wish I'd have kept that. (thanks Mom! lol )

Lovetheparks - If either of us find one dark or light hair, we'll send it to the other. Deal?

SUPER ELASTIC BUBBLE PLASTIC!!! LOL!

I used to love the smell of that stuff! :rotfl: Here's a little more about it...

Sod the boring old 'balloon' concept; Super-Elastic Bubble-Plastic puts it to shame. This was toy-goo that possessed a noxious odor and had to be wrestled out of an aluminum tube covered with cracking lead-based paint. The fun comes when you roll the goo-onto a straw that sits about one inch from your nasal passages as you blow your last clean-breath into the goo. It instantly becomes a swirly colored that seemed as psychedelic as the fumes that wrap-around your cerebral cortex. A hard-user of Super-Elastic Bubble-Plastic might blow 37 balls a day. There's no more Super-Elastic Bubble-Plastic In this litigious era; not a chance in hell that you'll get wrecked playing catch with yourself anymore.

Ok, I've never seen one of those, but that thing is FREAKING ME OUT!!! The eyes change colors. Just what I want, a doll that has eyes that change and will come to life at night and get me. :earseek:

Maybe we should pair this doll off with Chuckie. Think you can sleep then? ;) :teeth:

Transparant, oh my God! Clackers! DUCK!

Who remembers Don't Break the Ice, Kooties, Ants in the Pants and Gnip Gnop (yes, I didn't realize it was ping pong spelled backwards until someone pointed it out... when I was in college).

I was going to add Gnip Gnop and I just now learned when looking for a picture of it that it was Ping Pong spelled backwards! :confused3 :rotfl2:

We had a Green Machine, post big wheel. We used to take turns spinning out by quickly shifting the levers to go the opposite direction.

Lauri had this as a kid and her older brother loved it (because he would torture his mom making her play it..lol) She would love to find one to give to him for Christmas this year.
