Villians Sinister Soirée

This is a creepy trend. If this works well, what's to stop Disney from creating specialty events where you can see certain groups of characters exclusively?

That doesn't sound like a bad idea. If they put a rare character as the "headliner", that would grab more people's attention. Lady Tremaine - meh.

I think it reeks of economics. :) One should expect the availability of the event (200 seats in a restaurant vs. total capacity of MK) to correlate with price. More limited / "exclusive", more expensive. Would you feel better about it if uncoupled -- if they were on different nights -- ie you didn't have to pay for MNSSHP to attend the soirée?

Pretty sure the amount of sweet seats/ 3d dessert discovery isn't a whole lot more than 200/event. It isn't a huge area. And epcot's total capacity is, I believe, greater than MK's...which would.make those seats more "exclusive" with the above reasoning. And yet for the same price you get, imo, more than at the soiree. (As it pertains to food/drink). Even with the character addition, I just don't feel the soiree is enough experience for what they are asking for it. Especially considering how much time away from the original special event you paid for it requires.

And I do apologize, but the smiley after economics comes across as a bit condescending. I apologize in advance if it wasn't meant that way...but I fully understand economics, and I don't begrudge Disney's desire to make more profit...but I think that they can make profit without cheaping out on the experience for the guests. This event seems to be "let's see how much we can charge and how little we can give for it.". That is a feeling I have gotten from a lot of Disney's decisions of late...increasing prices with little benefit to the guest experience.

I'd "feel better" about it if they were giving an experience commensurate to the price. For access to all of MK, all of the characters, food, rides etc for 8 hrs, they are charging $62 or so...but for $99 you get a 1 hr experience where there are.desserts and non alcoholic drinks only, and a handful of characters, plus reserved seating for hallowishes and boo to you (which aren't really necessary..we walked.up right before and enjoyed both with good.seats). I just don't think the experience you get is worth it.

Not very child friendly characters. My son loves villians. But I'd imagine many small children won't. Or maybe it's catered toward the adult crowd?

The price is pretty scary too. $99 on top of a hard ticket? !

This is Mickey's NOT SO SCARY Halloween Party, right?

If it were geared to adults, there should be alcohol....it isn't like they don't serve it elsewhere in MK.

Sorry you had a tough time.

I saw it on FaceBook, called, and 25min later I was booked.

Luck of the CM draw with these things... like F&W events... :(

Yeah it seems you have to be in the right place at the right time to hear about these things. However I just learned something that I think everyone should know. Only becasuse I had this happen making a regular dining reservation did I find this out. I just called back and of course had to wait 40 minutes before I got a hold of anyone. I tried to make the reservation for TWO instead of one and amazingly there was availability!!!!! The CM booked it and said I just need to call back tomorrow to modify it. Once again ONLY because I tried this before with a regular ADR did I attempt to see if it would work. So anyone who is going solo and having problems booking any ADR's put in for two:thumbsup2

It's a Halloween party. It's been proven that people want very badly to see the villains. At least this way you can decide if your family wants to see them this badly or not. There's always someone who gets upset that something is offered that may not be right for every family. A family whose child doesn't like villains just won't go - there, they've saved $100 apiece.

I just made a ressie for 2 for Sept 28th. I was on hold for almost an hour (55 minutes to be exact). I was told it starts at 10pm. We'll see how it goes. It's a lot of money but hopefully it will be worth it. I will def be checking out reviews once it starts.

Ugh I think $99 is really high for this but I also really want to go so I am torn....I may book it and cancel if I need to (if my date isn't already booked that is).

I think there are a lot of people doing this. I think people are waiting to hear the reports from the first few parties and then will make a decision whether they want to keep the ADR or not. I called my DH to tell him about it thinking he would see it as crazy and he kind of wants to do it. He thinks the price is ridiculous, but he thinks it sounds like it could be fun and he likes the idea of basically the parade "FP+" (he is figuring that with the restaurant capacity and only 1 party for the night- the area won't be as packed as the regular parades can get with FP+). He said - maybe you should see if you can book it and then we can always cancel later.

I do feel like if I am not on the disboards constantly- I can miss out on things. There are so many things that the average non-Dis park person doesn't find out about until it is too late if ever.

I also feel like they are totally trying to upsell and nickle and dime us with "exclusive" stuff. Last week we were debating the Food and Wine premium package- which we decided wasn't worth it for us. This week, it is the Villians deal. Probably something new next week!!! Thanks goodness the Anna and Elsa $80 coronation breakfast wasn't happening during our trip! Actually, the Anna and Elsa coronation breakfast might explain some of the hold times today!

I know bog has alcohol. Where else?

I'll be sitting this special event in the event out. I look very forward to reviews!

My dh was joking that he needs to start keeping his mouth shut. We were taking while waiting for fireworks last week that if Disney charged $99 people would still book it. We were discussing if they had a frozen meal at H&V.

For those going, enjoy! I don't begrudge those who can afford to do so.

To pay another $400 for my family to do this on top of the initial entry cost is a bit much.

I could do another nite of MNSSHP or stay another day in the World and still come out ahead.

.

I think that is it, but my point was that the whole "no alcohol in MK" policy has already been tossed out the window for dinner at BOG. It is odd to me they wouldn't add it to a special villains event, esp. one they are charging so much for on top of the already special event price.

Be Our Guest is it for alcohol but they do have it at private events sometimes. Not this one though. Had they so chosen, they COULD have included alcohol.

The Anna/Elsa breakfast is not a public event by Disney - it's a private event sponsored by a group of travel agencies and open only to their clients.

Really? Looks like you can purchase them on the link below. Kenny the Pirate has a breakdown as well.

Has the original mix and mingle been confirmed as not happening? My daughter is going to Tinkerbell specifically to get a picture with Hook, and I haven't seen him mentioned as meeting elsewhere.

It says right in the link it's thrown by a travel agency, but I don't think it's just for clients.

I used to feel this way, but honestly, not anymore!

If you follow the OFFICIAL DISNEY accounts like WDW, Annual Passholder, D23, etc on Twitter and FB you'll find out what you need to know to get in on these things.

I saw this on the Passholder FB this morning while on the metro. Called right away and nabbed it. Same with some F&W stuff. Same thing for runDisney events.

Now that Disney is actually on top of this stuff, I find out from them directly now -- unlike in years past when I needed DIS more (sorry :(). I often get more "insider details" on DIS afterwards (along with a ton of conjecture! ;)), but I get enough heads up straight from Disney to book the new things that pop up.

I didn't mean the :) to be condescending at all.

Value is in the eye of the beholder. I think it's worth it for: a cool new experience in the castle, a chance to see characters up close without waiting in line, and reserved areas for fireworks and parade. I hardly care about the desserts, though we'll certainly have some. :)

Since they've made this "exclusive" by virtue of venue size, it makes sense for the price to be higher. A PP put it well, I thought... they're marketing this to a group within an already small-ish group of people willing to pay for ticketed events. If there's an audience for that at this price point it'll continue. If not, it won't.

And one could argue that the following is what all businesses do with their offerings all the time: "This event seems to be "let's see how much we can charge and how little we can give for it."" Sounds a bit like finding the optimal price for a product / service. Seems like their shareholder mandate, depending on how you look at it.

When you sign up for the Anna and Elsa event though, you are not booking through Disney. So this isn't part of the Disney "moneygrubbing" because they are not responsible for offering or booking this event.

I've just booked this - very excited personally. We didn't have the time to fit a CRT ADR into our plan so to get into this and a DP/M&G's etc has made our day :)

I booked the 11:45pm seating but on MDE it is showing up as arrive at 10pm - is anybody else having this issue? Not sure whether to call back and just check my time is right. Wanted the later one as we get the party and then go into CRT!

I feel like the prices of the upcharge events are way too high when you consider what you're getting for them. I'm also not a fan of the constant focus on dessert parties, special nights, and other extras. It's getting out of control for me. I totally understand why people would want to go, especially if they live in Florida. For me, it doesn't work.
