Having stayed in villas for the past 6 trips, we now find it extremely difficult to stay in regular hotel rooms. With a family of 5, one of us has to sleep in a cot, and rooms are generally tight. We also find it hard to eat out for the trip.

Has anyone stayed in villas other than those in DVC? We're particularly interested in any located in northern California, the southeast, or other parts of Florida.

We have not stayed in other villas, however we have rented homes in various cities. You always want to do your research on the management company. To me it is a great way to experience a place as someone who lives their whether it's the beach or the mountains or a historic city. :)

You can check Redweek.com or the Timeshare Users Group (TUG) and see what is available for rent from individuals.

We've stayed the the Newport Beach Marriott Villas in Southern, CA and they were just as spacious. We had a 2 bedroom villa w/ King Master, 1 Queen & double sofa bed, 2 full bathrooms, full kitchen, living room with another sofa bed. It's a very nice location. Gook luck:thumbsup2

We like Marriott Residence Inns (request 2 br for private sleeping) Embassy Suites. In Orlando, have found Cypress Pointe, Lake Buena Vista Suites also offer at least a microwave and frig so that helps on cooking.

We love MVCI (Marriott Vacation Club). It offers the consistent quality you get with DVC (the interior of the units I consider as nice or nicer than DVC units). Here's where you can find their resorts located:

Also, Wyndham has a lot of locations on the east coast. Their older resorts are not quite as upscale as Marriott, but the newer ones are (especially if you stay in a presidential unit) Here's their directory:

I second checking out Redweek.com for rentals from owners. Also, for Wyndham rentals, Ken Price gets a lot of good reviews for renting Wyndham points at:

Good luck.
