Villains sinister soiree 2015?

I guess it depends on how you define bait and switch, which is usually defined as advertising something for a certain price and saying that certain elements will be offered at that price, and then later not delivering on your earlier promise and instead either giving less than promised to the consumer or making them pay more for everything that was promised at the original price.

I don't think it was done purposefully, but to make the announcement that "for the first time ever the villains will meet with their respective princess", and then switching those villains to an expensive, severely limited capacity event after selling thousands of tickets qualifies as a bait and switch in my eyes, even if it was done without malice. I wasn't interested either way, but a lot of people were not happy about it. Lol
It was just so clearly a "the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing" moment for Disney.

so it is ok to dress up? I've been getting mixed answers. I'm making a costume and it does reflect what the disney version looks like, will i be allowed into the party with said costume? its nothing bad or anything, just looks similar to their own version.
Yep you can wear what you please as a costume within reason. I think I only saw one person being asked to change and it was cause they went as wolverine with metal claws and they just asked him to remove his claws or keep them retracted since they were dangerous. I was surprised some of the costumes I saw.

ETA: they could have at least given the princes back. That would have resulted in less outrage, I think. Lol

We will probably just disagree on this then.

They changed the offerings before parties and offered refunds when asked. If they continued to say the villains would be out when parties started Id agree.

I still think it was ****ty.

The soiree was a huge hit for my wife and I; the prime viewing spot for the parade and fireworks was worth it alone. It was easily worth the money for the experience. hard to get for sure.

Totally agree and I would do it again if they offer it..

Flynn Rider.... They could've given us Eugene!!!! To have his "thugs" out too would've been fun. A change that they could've made the enhance the Boo to You would've been to add the Maleficent dragon from the FoF parade to the BTY Parade... Fire breathing dragon... at night...

Nope not true.. I did not completely throw $ at not knowing what the party entailed or who was going to be there. I could have cancelled after the first reports came (pictures, and posts) in as I went to the one the end of September. And I saw no one at the city hall doors requesting their $ back. I believe that was the first parties..

But there were people that did throw money at it blindly. There are people who will throw money at Disney blindly for anything honestly.

As I said, I was at the 2nd party. There was a rather long wait in City Hall for refunds. As word got out, yes, you knew what you were getting into if you did your research, knowing that party elements had changed and such.

Again, there's a reason nothing was done for MVMCP. Lesson learned perhaps?

Going forward, in the practice of good business, they need to make the correct changes. If you're pulling something, add something in its place to keep the value (which has gone up this year), if not, like we've said, it's a bait and switch. Disney doesn't want bad PR about them performing this practice, especially in an ongoing fashion.

I honestly take a little offense that some of you are saying that people who bought these tickets were just throwing money blindly away. My family bought them for the first party. Yes, we took a risk based on what they said would be offered. My sister LOVES the villains. They are her favorite and in recent years they have been out less and less during the usual day. If people never took risks, then there would never be anything new offered. At some point in time, every thing offered in the parks was new and people did not know what to expect. Was everyone who ever bought tickets for the first event, showing, etc. just throwing money away?

Those who did the soiree, did you actually have any time to enjoy the party or was all your time pretty much devoted to the soiree?

Well, when you are given a full rundown of what is expected with something new, it's not going in blind. Yes, it's a new experience, but you've got an idea of what to expect. For $99/person on top of the party admission (event within an event), and little info being given, yes, I could see it as throwing money blindly. The reviews were mixed on the soiree. Lots liked it, others thought it took up too much time, others thought that it was bad business all around.

I agree that someone has to be the first to try something, but again, if you're given plenty of notice ahead of time as to what is going on, it's worth a calculated risk.

ETA: You wouldn't go spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on things if you didn't know what they would do right? Like a car, house, etc... So why would you do the same with events on a vacation... especially when it's not exactly cheap?

We actually went to the late one, so we were able to enjoy most of the party before going. I think the amount of information was pretty typical honestly, considering that no one knows definitively all of the characters that will appear at the party until the first party happens. Maybe I am missing something.

There were several people who bought tickets and said they would cancel based on reviews, so in a way, those people threw money at Disney with the possibility of getting it back once they knew what it really was. Lol! No need to be offended if you were someone who knew what you were getting when you signed up because you would not be who the PP was talking about. :)

it lasted and hour and my appt for it was at 10:15 so yes i lost an hour and some change of party time. i am not into the big name rides or m&g so for me it wasnt bad. They also had a 11:45pm one where you did not lose party time.

I decided I wanted to go based on people's reviews and tried for 6 weeks before my party on oct31st and it was always sold out, was sold out the oct 31st appt i got too but i got pixie dusted by a nice cm and they made a table for me and my mom. I found it odd considering the negative reviews how hard it was to get an appt, so i figured that it was pretty much a mixed bag that you either loved it or your hated it.

Thank you! Just trying to figure out if I want to do the *similar event* if it does happen. Thinking I may skip it, but if we could do an 11:45 maybe we won't. I don't want to miss the party events.

I had a prime spot for the parade right in front of the train station no one else was there - and I got there 15 minutes before the parade. , AND it was free...

To me I would just prefer a diner with the villains that to me would make the event a bit more worth it plus non rushed.

I will be getting t this year regardless - to me thogh it's definitely a need to do once only experience!

Well, we don't know what the "new" thing is yet. Others have said and were told on calls to Disney that it will not be the Soiree like last year... So Disney's got something cookin' but they need to let people know sooner this year.
