If she is using any ipod older than 4th generation, it has no microphone. One of ours is a 2nd gen. and it did the same thing. I thought it would just let me do manual check in, but I guess it has to listen for something first. I bought a little microphone from ebay to plug into the headphone jack and now it works fine. It is just a small black microphone and was about $2.
Like the PP said, I bet she doesn't have a microphone installed on her device
That did the trick!! I asked her if she was using her older iPod Touch or her iPhone and she was on the iPod Touch at the time. She obviously has the newer version of the app and it appears they "fixed" this because I know I was able to use my son's iPod Touch (same version) about 2 weeks ago when I couldn't find my iPhone and I didn't have my special microphone earbuds plugged in and it worked fine. I hadn't updated the version at that time. I did think it was "odd" it allowed me to check in on his iPod Touch w/out speakers but it worked. I thought - these Viggle people are probably in my house somewhere...ha ha

Thanks again guys = she is happy now and hopefully I'll get 200 points for this. I didn't when my Mom signed up so if not, I will email them this time.
