From what I've heard on various threads, the shows on the Disney Cruise Line are fantastic! We'll be having our first cruise July 22 onboard the Wonder and are looking forward to Disney Dreams, Golden Mickeys, and Hercules. From what all I've heard about them, I know after the trip is done I'll want to watch them over and over on home movie discs. Does Disney have a policy against videotaping their shows onboard? I know they don't have a problem with it in the theme parks, but I was justing wondering if it was different on the cruise. Help is thanked in advance! pirate:

This is one of my soap boxes.......... Disney says NO video recording and NO cameras in the WDT for any of the shows. There is always at least three people whom do it anyway. :sad2: Makes me SOOOOOOO mad for those of us which follow the RULES......... I wish they would start to take the memory cards of those that do not follow the rules. All of us would like to video record the show or even take simple flash photography, but feel we should follow the rules. :confused3 They announce this prior to each show; but the rule breakers are not always the late comers. They choose just to be NAUGHTY NAUGHTY as my DD says !!!!! I guess it is just like the Little Mermaid Show at MGM, they say no recording and some bummmmm always pulls out the recorder. :sad2: So my opinion is do not break the rules. We all would love to see the shows again, we instead pay the $6 gran to go back. :)
I will record the show for you if you give me the Tinkerbell Autograph (just kidding,:lmao: Hopefully since she has been added to the Disney Dreams show, I can get it this upcoming cruise.) I hope this helps. Have fun......:hippie:

I have called people out on their rudeness. You are allowed to take non-flash photos, but not flash. I was in the front row on my last cruise...all the other people in the row were taking flashless photos except for Miss I-Am-Above-The-Law on my right. The first time, I said to my husband (loudly enough for her to hear), "Obviously some people did not hear the annoucement that flash photography is not allowed." She didn't take the hint, so at the next flash I turned to her and said, "Flashes are not allowed, which is why everyone else here is not using one." She snapped, "Well, I didn't hear anything about that." I responded, "Well, if you would like, I can ask a crew member to come over here and explain the rules to you." Then she got all huffy and said, "Well, I'm doing it because other people were doing it, and you don't have to be so RUDE!" She was getting pretty loud, but since I am a counselor I love to maintain my calmness to make the other person look like even more of an idiot. I just replied sweetly, "Could you please define rude for me?" She said, "You don't have to tell me you're going to get a crew member over here!" I replied, "Apparently you don't have good judgment about what constitutes rudeness" (in my mind I added, "...because if I was being rude, that camera would be shoved where the sun don't shine" but I restrained myself). That shut her up, and she quit her freakin' flashing.

Actually - they do not announce no video taping at all shows ... just a couple --- since I have camcorder that I have used onboard and in the theater. To respect other theater goers - I only use the small viewfinder on the top of the camcorder and never open up the 3" one on the side.

The do always announce no flash photos - since it can blind the performers.

The only one I did not hear it at was some of the variety act shows. :confused3 Every Disney production, I did hear this said. Trust me, the first cruise, I took our recorder to each show and decided not to use it because of the announcment. Our other cruises we just decided not to take it. I am guilty:hippie: , last cruise I did not go to any of the "people shows", did catch all of the Disney ones AGAIN.

It is announced at the three mainstage shows, Hercules/Twice Charmed, Dreams and Golden Mickey's. I can tell you I was questioned each and every show because I had not learned how to turn off the screen on my digital camera and the CM's thought I was video taping. I've seen other's warned as well. Even the eye piece, red light, etc can be a distraction. Especially those screens on the digi cams, when the theater is dark they are REALLY bright. =o)

Thanks 2angelsinheaven. Just what I said and thought. The Disney Shows announce it. I knew I was not crazy. We heard this on both the Wonder and the Magic. On the Wonder were the Disney Shows you mentioned and the Magic it was the Disney ones as well. The two variety shows, I did not hear this. Thanks........:hippie:

Thanks for the info - I just won't bother bringing our camcorder to the theater when we go on our first criuse next year.;)

I thought there might be a "no recording policy" in place - although we've never cruised before, we've visited WDW many times, so know that their shows often have these types of restrictions.

I do have one question though - if anyone could help me out. Can you record or take photos at the Farewell Show? I would love to see my DD (who'll be 6 1/2 y.o. when we cruise) "graduate" and have it preserved forever as we don't do that over here in Scotland (well, not until University and by then it won't have the cuteness factor! :lmao: )

There's a website, Jeff Lange DVD, that sells the three shows on DVD. I didn't know it wasn't allowed. :confused3 Now I feel bad for buying them.

The big issue is it is dangerous for the cast on stage if the Flash are used. It blinds them, if even for a moment, but they have drop floor on stage and one wrong step can cause a major accident. It is much more than rude not to follow the request not to take flash pictures. Last cruise there were so many it ruined it for us. I went and got a CM and still they continued. I spoke to the cruise director and turned in a written complaint. I hope that in the future they remove the cameras or the people. It just isn't fair to the rest of us you want to enjoy the show not to mention the safety of the cast.

A long time ago they actually enforced it. At that time, they were so strict that they would not even let my husband take non-flash photos (they told him his view screen might disturb others). The cruise staff would keep an eye out and would approach the rule breakers. But I haven't seen that happen in ages...sigh! It really ruins the show for me, especially when everyone seems to have those stupid strobing flashes now. The only thing worse than a flash every two minutes is a strobe and THEN a flash every two minutes! If I could make one change on DCL that would increase my enjoyment, it would be enforcement of this rule.

There were no restrictions on video taping the graduation. We got what little bit of our DD we could see on the stage on video. I don't even remember the no flash photography on that one, because though Minnie and Mickey appear, there is no show it would interrupt.

Thanks, Mean Queen - I'll just make sure I check out the rules BEFORE the show so I'm not breaking any rules or putting anyone at risk of harm!;)

Tink,too

Frankly, I also take issue with those who think they are not being rude and inconsiderate and believe they have a right to videotape or use flash on their camera. Instead, those of us who ask them to respect the production by not doing so are the rude ones.

I would IMAGINE :confused3 that the production shows are copywrited. Logically that makes sense, so I can understand no video recordings. Then as Grandma4ever pointed out, flash photography certainly would be dangerous to the performers. Let's face it...when we go to our children's dance recitals, they also have a no flash photography rule because they don't want the little darlings to be distracted and disoriented from the light.

Has anyone noticed if they sell any DVDs of the producitons in Mickey's Mates or Treasure Ketch?

This is one reason why DH and I sit towards the back. Very few people are taking pictures from there. And it is not nearly as annoying if it is happening from a distance. I just wish that they would ask everyone to leave their recorders and cameras in their cabin or put away in a bag because it is too difficult to try to regulate and enforce the current rule. If they see it, they take it. They embarrass one person doing that and they won't have a problem the rest of the cruise.

Maybe DCL could make a cd with pictures of all the performances and sell it in one of the shops. Then everyone could get great pictures of the shows and not have to worry about trying to capture a good picture themselves. It would be wonderful if everyone could just enjoy the show.

Now, don't get on the subject of people that continuously talk through the show!

Iv never been on Disney but I know that on ALL other cruises seems like they announced something like that before shows. Im not sure I even know how to turn off my flash, its a little one, but I may have broken some rules myself taking pictures of other shows. I understood no videotaping, but not that about no camera with a flash. They do make the announcement so fast that Ill bet others are not real clear on it either.

Quite frankly, I can't see why they don't let you video tape the show, as long as you don't use the LCD screen. I didn't do it on the last cruise, but I do believe I will do it on the next one. There is no light emitted, and on my camcorder I can also shut off the beep and the red light. Why do I want to video tape it? Not because I plan on selling it, but because I take our vacations as special times of our lives, and I enjoy creating a memory of those times for my kids and some day their kids to see how much fun we had as they were growing up. So if the sight of me holding my camcorder is annoying to you, I suggest you don't sit near me, but I do assure you that if you don't look at me, you won't even know I am video taping.

How is DCL to know what a person plans to do with the recording? It is their right to ask that you do not record it. It wouldn't really annoy me if a couple of people record or take pictures of the show. But when hundreds of people are doing it, it does get annoying. Not everyone is as considerate as you and turns off their view screen, turns off their flash, stays in their seats, etc. I don't believe that people are allowed to record Broadway musicals or plays either. So why do people give so little respect to the requests that DCL has asked of them in their theater?

I agree in principal that hundreds of people with bright lights, or flashes is annoying, not to mention dangerous. At the last show on the Wonder the cruise director deliberately said the request was so that those around you would not be bothered by the LCD screens, not because of their concern that people would sell it. They have outstanding shows at WDW, and people video tape and do sell their DVD's along with the website mentioned in this thread. If they had this request because of copyright's, these people, who are very prevalent on the web, would be hauled into court in a heartbeat, I am sure.
