Videotaping the Onboard Shows

Maybe DCL could make a cd with pictures of all the performances and sell it in one of the shops. Then everyone could get great pictures of the shows and not have to worry about trying to capture a good picture themselves. It would be wonderful if everyone could just enjoy the show.

That sounds like a great idea, eva - that way we could all have lovely, clear, photos of the shows that are in focus and have good lighting!:)

I'm not a terrible photographer, but I ain't no professional either :rotfl: - I'm sure if I went ahead and took photos irrespective of the rules, mine would turn out crappy anyway - that's why I'm not going to bother!;)

Quite frankly, I can't see why they don't let you video tape the show, as long as you don't use the LCD screen. I didn't do it on the last cruise, but I do believe I will do it on the next one. There is no light emitted, and on my camcorder I can also shut off the beep and the red light. Why do I want to video tape it? Not because I plan on selling it, but because I take our vacations as special times of our lives, and I enjoy creating a memory of those times for my kids and some day their kids to see how much fun we had as they were growing up. So if the sight of me holding my camcorder is annoying to you, I suggest you don't sit near me, but I do assure you that if you don't look at me, you won't even know I am video taping.

This is my SOAP BOX....... The shows are copy- righted. You would not go see the Lion King and take out the video camera even though you spent $175 to $250 on each of the tickets or would you????? Does one road trip down to NY to see the Color Purple and wip out the video camera? :confused3 It is against the law without permission to video tape. Does one go to see Star Wars and whip out the video recorder????? :sad2: I hope Disney starts to take them from people. Some of us have forked out tons of money on DCL and still do not break the rules. Last cruise it cost my family $10 gran just for reservations and we did not feel we had special times we could break the rules. Last night we went to see Dinsy's High School musical and I was so happy when the staff came and asked the lady to turn off the recorder and to pick it up after the show. :thumbsup2 Way to go........ WE ALL FEEL IT IS A MAGICAL TIME in our family's life. This is how they keep getting us to come back and back. You need to find otherways to keep the memories. If some of you feel so strong about this issue, maybe you should write Disney and ask them to start selling DVDs of the shows.:cool1: Last Cruise I spent A LOT OF $ on flowers when we renewed our vows on DCL. They were the prettiest roses I've ever seen. CUSTOMS does not allow live flowers through, so I had to leave them there. (Actually I took off some of the petals and let some go in the ocean). Just because it was a magical part of my cruise, did I take them home? NO!!!! I guess when you have the option of BIG $$$$ fine or keep the human memory only, I choose the human memory. Maybe Disney should fine rule breakers. Next cruise, I think I will write that suggestion on my comment card......;)

I agree in principal that hundreds of people with bright lights, or flashes is annoying, not to mention dangerous. At the last show on the Wonder the cruise director deliberately said the request was so that those around you would not be bothered by the LCD screens, not because of their concern that people would sell it. They have outstanding shows at WDW, and people video tape and do sell their DVD's along with the website mentioned in this thread. If they had this request because of copyright's, these people, who are very prevalent on the web, would be hauled into court in a heartbeat, I am sure.

So the cruise director deliberately said, "We don't care if you tape this and sale it, as long as you don't use your LCD screen."? I'm sure they feel that saying it is for the comfort of others is the best way to get the point across. I just don't get this. If DCL asks that we don't record the show, why do some feel it is still ok to do it? Same goes for the flash photography. I've never felt that my memories of the great times that we have had on our cruises have ever been dampened because I couldn't record the shows. As a matter of fact, I'd rather see photos and recordings of my family and friends enjoying themselves on the cruise. And instead of spending my time holding a camera, I think I would rather be holding a loved one's hand. Just my opinion.

What other rules do you also feel don't apply to you?

I can't argue that! Eloquently stated.

I think you can buy DVDs of the show on board the ship. I always assumed that is why you are not allowed to videotape the shows themselves. Someone on another thread said to buy them right away because they sell out quickly.

Geesh, If a person does NOT affect your enjoyment, why are you folks so hell bent on "ratting" out somebody? atinkerbellmom (appropriate nic :) ) you can be on your soapbox all you want, bottom line is what I do is NONE of your business if I am not affecting you! IF I stand up and move around, get in front of you ask you to hold my camera :scared1: , then I can see you getting pissy, otherwise, back off. Last cruise, the people behind us did nothing but crunch a potato chip bag and and the chips inside it through the "Golden Mickeys" show. IMO, that was way more annoying than somebody taking a video! BTW, I am sure the shows at WDW are copyrighted, but there is no problem video tapping them, right? Last time I did, I had a CM come and advise of a better angle to shoot at. They specifically said "we ask that there be no flash photography or video tapping, NOT it is PROHIBITED. At least not what I heard, and for the record, I did not video tape anything on the last cruise.

eva, read the quote you bolded, did I say he gave us permission? I in fact said he simply stated the reason for requesting no video tapping.:teacher: Also, you keep your memories your way, I'll keep mine my way. I enjoy coming home and editing, and those in my party love keeping there copies. My twin 7 year old nephews watch those videos over and over from our last trip to WDW. So, I won't criticize your memory keeping, and you shouldn't criticize mine. Thank you....;)

waltfan1957, please! I won't even dignify that with an answer!

This is part of what is wrong with the world today, everybody has to be in each others business. Those of you that decided it was ok to take non flash photography, are you not breaking the rules then? Those pictures are still of "copyrighted" material, so I guess those photos are bootleg? BTW, there is probably a reason they DON'T confiscate equipment, OR kick people out of a show that ARE video tapping ( I did see some and it didn't bother me in the least), and that probably is because if it's done discretely, then they probably see it as no harm done. Now this is entirely my opinion. By the way I have been flamed here, I would surely like to know how many of you have a halo around your heads. I surely didn't mean to get all your shorts in a knot this fine day! :thumbsup2 Now, go take a chill pill, phew...

Really.
What's the harm in taping a show on DcL?!?
If they allow it @ WDW, they should @ DcL!!!
If I were u, I would keep the camcorder o n my lap.
Then, occasionally, tape certain bits (about 5 min. @ a time)
But, save your "5 min time" til u really want to.
You get parts of the show & you don't get caught!

popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn::
You don't NEED the whole show!
If u try to tape the whole thing, your battery will probably die before it ends.

DCL does not sell tapes or CDs of their onboard shows. The only soundtrack is for Twice Charmed and it is available in the giftshops.

DCL does not allow videotaping, flash photography, or the saving of seats in the Walt Disney Theater. As posted before in this thread, that is announced before the major stage shows and has always been quite clear when I have heard it myself. Since the OP's question has been answered, and the DIS does not allow the discussion of how to circumvent any of DCL's policies, this thread is being closed.
