Video of Renovated Old Key West Studio

I like it on the whole - though I'm also not yet sure about the darker wood, and I hope they don't end up mixing light and dark. Like the new bedspreads - I think they are more "seasidey" than the originals.

I notice that there is now a covering (valance?) round the bottom of the beds. I wondered if the shin cracker bed frames have been replaced, or if they're just covering them up...!

Thanks for finding the video puente0629 :thumbsup2

No problem...just doing some investigating work on Old Key West like we are staying there in June and stumbled on the video...:thumbsup2

LOL! Good question! Yes, those beds in the 2nd bedrooms are real shin crackers!

Since they look like the same headboards, just re-painted, I would assume thet are the same bed frame. As the headboards at OKW, unlike many hotels, were not attached to the wall, but were part of a free standing bed frame.

This. Also if anyone has stayed in Key West, FL recently, they will see that most of the upscale resorts have gone to the darker woods with simple bedding (some plain white). Sorry, but I think pink, green, peach and mauve is a flashback to the 1980's. The 80's was great, but I'd like to leave those colors behind.

I have no desire to stay at an "upscale resort" at WDW or anywhere. This is probably why I prefer the laid back, relaxed feel of OKW. I'll take the light airy colors and mismatched furniture over dark and stuffy anytime. ;)

Amen. As beautful and upscale as the Grand Floridian is, I have no desire to stay there. Though, I enjoy dining there from time to time.

You know, now that I think of it, it makes sense that's one reason why some of us don't like this new renovated style; one big reason we like OKW is that it's so laid-back, not stuffy at all. A really casual place to be. This furniture seems a little more formal and DH I are definitely not formal on vacation

Liking it and having it adhere to the theme are two diffent things. I don't dislike the new decor we saw on the video, I just don't think it goes with the 1900 Old Key West theme of the resort. If you read the resort "story" (yes, all Disney resorts have a "story" to them), you will see that those modern colors aren't much a part of it. Beachy and light and mismatched furniture is what makes the theme.

It would appear that the "Hemingway Collection" doesn't really reflect his Key West years: http://hemingway.thomasville.com/

It may also be a change in marketing strategy. When OKW was built, it seemed to be marketed for people that were comfortable in more casual timeshares, but were also Disney fans. Disney was there but it was very subtle in the theming. Now it seems that DVC is marketed to Disney fans that are also wanting to save $ per night by owning a timeshare. Perhaps this is to increase desirability for cash guests?

Video 101: Don't move the camera around too much as it will induce vertigo. Focus on one thing at a time, focus being the key word here. . .;)

Maybe a shabby coastal chic theme would have been better? I like the mismatched furniture look, very laid back.

Don't mind the darker colors here, but guess I will reserve judgement until we actually stay in a renovated unit.
Can say with certainty I am glad the peach is gone. that was the only color I didn't like in the old design scheme.

That bed is beautiful. :thumbsup2

The headboards look like the same ones, with a new finish on them. I think the bedspreads look like 20,000 Leagues under the Sea.

Yes, I thought they looked like the old headboards with a new finish too. Time will tell, I guess. I can't wait for someone here to stay in a renovated unit and take some "real" pictures!:)

I don't like the dark colored headboards. I wish we could see a new 1 bedroom!! I wonder what they did with the wood on the bathroom walls. I really liked that bleached wood sort of worn look. I like the bedspreads and I can live with the blue vs. the peach on the walls but I hope they didn't change TOO much. I also hope they saved the tv armoires in the 1 bedrooms. The TV just sitting on top looks sloppy!

MUST-SEE-MORE!! popcorn::

I wonder what software they used to make this video. I thought the way they created this family video was great and very well done....smjj

I'm pretty sure that was Apple's iMovie.

As to the bugs I think they looked like lovebugs as they are attracted to anything white.

If I had to make an educated guess they brought them back from the pool and did not realize it and just dropped the towels on the floor.

I agree. Anyone should know you do NOT lay wet towels on the floor in a climate like Florida has. I guess I don't know why ANYONE would leave wet towels on the floor in ANY climate. :confused3
