Very upseting situation at California Grill.

I dont think its nice to name the people involved, I'd hate it if I read a thread like this on here!!

I agree with you, I will work on rectifying it so it's not clear what the servers names were in this situation. It's borderline slanderous IMO

The servers names have been removed from all prior posts (I believe), for the sake of further discussion please refer to them as either E or J. Thank you.

OP - Some people just don't care about others. It's tough for empathetic people like you and me to understand, but all they care about is themselves.

Keeping being empathetic & caring - don't listen to all of these naysayers.

So if a person does not think this situation is "very upsetting" or it doesn't "disgust them beyond belief", that means they have no empathy and don't care about others? Give me a break. :rolleyes1

E and J are ok waitresses, but Brandy is my favorite!

Badum Ching!

That was awful, but I couldn't resist.

This thread is a perfect reason why I now refuse to go to dinner with anyone from the food service industry. There was no issue here, IMHO, that a guest had any business getting their nose into, nor anything to get particularly upset about.

Nice to see so many people stand up and care about bad treatment when they see it happen to others. I wonder how they'd view the situation if they - or a family menber - had it happen to them.

Well, you'll have to come on again and tell us all about it when you get back to your room!!

My advice with respect to CG is always the same -- go late -- after the fireworks are long over with. Any earlier seating and you're asking for misery.

ITA. California Grill is supposedly a signature restaurant, but the atmosphere says "zoo."

Im eating there in about 2 hours!

I hope I dont get a J server!!!
You know, there's no guarantee - but you CAN request a particular server. If that person is working, and if you may be willing to wait until a table for your party size opens in their area, it might work. It worked for me everywhere except Coral Reef a couple of years ago. Due to the late time and how busy the restaurant was, I didn't bother asking for anyone specific - and then, coincidentally, got seated at a table being handled by the recommended server!

Actually, we told E about the situation. However, she was visibly upset by it.

As mentioned above, it was not previously arranged with E.
For those of you who still do not understand why I have a problem with that, sorry to hear that, but apparently your moral compass points in a different direction than mine. I felt bad for E because essentially J was taking money out of her pocket, as well as for the family who felt they were wrong for sitting in the lounge area. She was brand new only having been there for a month. She didn't want to rock the boat. She had to find a new job when all the clubs at Pleasure Island closed.

We did let E know, but since she was so new, she didn't want to rock the boat already so just shrugged it off.

Sounds to me like E was the unprofessional one. Having worked in table service, including at Disney, these kind of workplace squabbles should never even be made known to guests. With all of the information provided by the OP, it appears that E said way more than was appropriate, causing the OP's stellar moral compass to spin way out of control.

I, for one, do not even care to know my server's name, let alone that he or she is new or used to work at PI. That would only make me more critical and afraid of what kind of service I should expect. If I am impressed and want to make a server my regular, or if I think the server needed to be corrected by management, then I will ask for his or her name after the meal.

Sorry your meal was ruined by so many distractions.

Personally, and I don't want to offend the OP, but I can not understand getting so upset about something that had NOTHING to do with her. It is like my motber used to say"Mind your own business, and take care of yourself"
Sorry if this seems blunt, but I don't understand why OP was in such a stew.
Me, either.

By the way, you CAN sit in the California Grill lounge and eat there.

Exactly. I've seen it quite a few times, they use the lounge tables for additional space to serve people. I always assumed it was more for "walk ins" who were willing to sit there rather than wait for a table.

I've never been a waitress in my life but I really still don't see what would be so "disgusting" in the first post. If the server E didn't seem upset, I sure wouldn't be.

Geez, reminds me of the old days when people considered the "help" below them and not worthy of notice. I prefer to show respect for those around me and feel they should be treated with the same compassion, dignity and
notice as the next guy. It didn't sound like she gave the info without being asked, also, she didn't bad mouth the other server from what I can tell. Blaming the victim is just wrong. I suppose the party of 3 were wrong, not the server, even though she kicked them out.

Um, in a word: yes. They are not the entertainment; my company is (from "com + panis," meaning "with bread." It is an interesting concept). Set me up as a rude straw-man and tear me down all you want, my vindication is in the real world of fine dining. Anywhere outside of WDW where you would pay the same prices, expect to be treated as I described. If I was your server, which I may have been, you would have been treated as I described. It would be nice if every restaurant on Disney property did not have to cater to such a wide spectrum as family-friendly, tourist-casual, and fine-dining. I am eager to see if the standards are raised, or if the current ones are at least enforced (such as dress code), after the Four Seasons is finished.

who the heck cares. How about C and B and even H? No one even mentioned poor S........................L and M and Z were involved too and they didnt get mentioned.

Hey-- I think I used to work with J! seriously.... waitresses work their tails off and I sort of always understood that she was trying to make as much $$ for the time she worked. I was a college kid and she was a single Mom.. I didn't always agree with her aggressiveness-- but I got it.

and BOY-- some of you posters aren't so nice to the OP! Correcting her spelling? come on....

Have a great friday!

Actually, I agree more with you than with the posters who want to becom BFF with their servers. I'm find with the relaxed dress codes, but I really don't want to know the life story of my servers. Telling me their name is sufficient and then attentive service without being annoying is the goal.

Actually, it's incidents like the OP speaks of that have kept us away from the California Grill. We have witnessed behavior of this type in the past and currently have no plans on returning.
