Very strict resort car security at the resorts closest to magic kingdom.

Shades of Green has always been that way because it's a military resort and it's what people expect. Walking to the Poly from the TTC is very, very easy. It's almost as close as a lot of the Poly parking lot is. We've always walked from SOG to the Poly and the TTC.

I have read a few reports of how empty Trader Sam's has been lately maybe this is a contributor. Interesting.

Been this way for awhile at the deluxes. Manifests have always been checked either through MB or ID and when the lot is busy (which start of summer crowds plus Pandora and New fireworks make even busier) they will tell you that you have to park at a theme park parking lot or Disney springs and take Disney transport. Well that or you can valet. During our April stay at Beach club we had no issue getting in just had to see our ID or MB. The one time a giard didn't ask the driver commented that someone wasn't following rules as he and at least 1 guest always needs to show ID at all resorts. This was a mears taxi too.

Disney should have been doing this all along anyway. Those lots (at least at the monorail and Epcot resorts) need to be for people staying there. People paying the high price to stay there shouldn't be fighting for spots with people saying they are there to shop then walking over to the parks.

If the resort parking lots for resort guests only, then Disney shouldn't have such big restaurants in them, or advertise them to the general public. Otherwise, make Ohana, Chef Mickey's and the others for resort guests only. Or offer to validate parking if you have to park at TTC and monorail or walk to the monorail resorts to use the restaurants, shops or bars.

For the record, I don't doubt that people use the excuse to park at the lots to walk or monorail over the MK, and I agree that it's an abuse of the system. I remember seeing a popular youtuber admitting to doing it a few years ago. (not going to say who) However, there are plenty of us who don't stay at the Poly or Contemporary who do like to eat at Ohana, get drinks at Trader Sam's or the Wave, and visit the resorts. We generally visit resorts on our "day off", so we've never used the excuse to go over to MK. We do spend a lot for those things already, so adding parking fees on top of that may cause us to change our plans. I haven't been in that situation yet, so I'm not sure. We had our Ohana ADR last month and only had to show ID to park (the security guard did not check a list or scan our magic band) and there were plenty of spaces at 7:30 pm. It also wasn't the height of summer, though.

This has happened to me, and yes, that is exactly what they told me...go use the TTC and monorail over.
That would definitely make me re-think visiting those resorts.

If people keep abusing the system Disney will just give up and end up charging everybody, including resort guests, for parking like Universal does. I'm glad they are getting stricter.

There are two different possible reasons for the parking thing: 1. a possible safety/security issue or 2. people abusing the system. My impression from the original post was that there was a possible safety/security issue. Having Lyft or Uber and the passengers show ID also doesn't sound like a "abusing the system" thing. It sounds more like a safety/security issue. Like "we want to know everyone who is coming in".

I don't object to added security measures. I do object to having to pay more to park for using a restaurant, shop or bar at those resorts. It may not be an issue to some people, but to me its one more way for Disney to get even more money. To each his/her own. I would feel the same way if they turned all the parking garages in Disney Springs to paying, or paying at other resorts to park to use their restaurants or bars.

Is there a spot outside the CR where uber drivers are allowed to drop off people who wish to Uber and then walk to the MK?

Well if I went into any city centre or shopping centre here in the U.K to drink, shop or have a meal I would have to pay for parking, heck we even have to pay to park at hospitals. Wherever you go the options are either taxi, pay to park, public transport. Not sure why so many people expect to be able to park at Disney for free. Free parking should be an onsite perk/annual pass holder perk.

All the sit down restaurants pretty much require an ADR now a days and with an ADR you get to park. What thh are really preventing are the people who go to Captain Cooks and sit on the beach to watch the fireworks. Anyone local who pays Disney's prices for Trader Sams is going to have an AP so parking at the TTC shouldn't be an issue.

Also when my friend had to park at DHS or valet because she was meeting us at Besch Club the front desk at Beach club refunded the parking fee with proof of our dinner at their property.

What is the objection of parking at TTC and walking over to Polynesian or taking monorail to other hotels if you don't have dining ADRs?
Do you not pay at the resorts, but have to pay at TTC? I don't know, thanks!

I think I know which YTer you are talking about

Anyway, if you have an ADR, it's not an issue to park for three hours. Nothing changed there (I think)

Yes, I believe so. Just like any dropoff. Maybe that is what they are trying to cut down on?

Right, if you don't have an AP or aren't staying onsite, you would have to pay at the TTC.

If you go to the big, advertised restaurants at the Swan or Dolphin you pay to park.
Heck, if you are staying there you pay to park.
I like the new measure

Why shouldn't you pay for parking if you are staying off site? You go to Universal you are paying for the parking garage and even if you stay at the onsite hotels you are paying for parking. I am paying a lot of money to stay onsite and I don't want to circle the parking lots looking for a space in the hotel parking lots.

If you have an ADR, you'll be on the list and won't have any trouble parking there. I think they need to enforce the 3 hour limit for those though and hope they start being more consistent in doing so.

Validating would be a great approach for those wanting to shop or eat CS, but once again they need to enforce a time limit.

Honestly, my step dad is disabled and if they want to charge us for a resort visit then instead of self-parking we'll use a valet spot which I believe is still free for those with a handicap hanger. As for our plan to eat at POFQ (mom loves Beignets) I'm not sure what I'd do if they told me I'd have to pay at the TTC and then get to POFQ. Probably skip it.

Is there a spot outside the CR where uber drivers are allowed to drop off people who wish to Uber and then walk to the MK?

We did this in April. They actually dropped us off at the end of the parking lot, near BLT. It was great!

So, does this mean if you wanted to go to Trader Sam's or The Wave, you wouldn't be allowed in, since there are no ADR's for bars?

When you say they are recommending parking nearby and taking Disney transportation, are they recommending someone park at the TTC and monorail over to the Poly or Contemporary? For off-site people that means paying for parking.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for safety measures. Just trying to figure out how this will work.
Im sure if you told them you were going to trader sam's they would let you in - they do want your money after all

We got turned away for this exact thing on thursday. Had to park at MK and walk over from ttc.
