Very strict resort car security at the resorts closest to magic kingdom.

And this I don't understand - Disney now offers "airport transfer servuces" via private sedan or SUV. Don't offer it then if they don't feel it's secure or if it warrants a stop and ID check

Wait. What? They do? Details please!

Do you have a source for this info?

I'm wondering if this is because of the new MK security set up. There is no bag check coming off the monorail at MK, only at TTC or if you're coming off the buses, or boats from the wildnerness resorts. So that places the security for the resort monorail guests onto the resorts themselves. The monorail resorts are now within the "sphere" of the MK security in a way. Can anybody confirm if the monorail resorts now have bag check/detectors on their monorail platforms (haven't visited any in the last few weeks since before this happened)? Also I would imagine there would need to be a bag check/detector before getting on the Epcot monorail as well.

It has always been there if you book through Disney and is just like when you book with any other travel agent. It is a 3rd party "limo" service. I've always been offered it when booking a package for the past 5+ years but the rate is always higher then booking those companies direct.

Ok, so it is a third party, not Disney run/operated. I thought you meant Disney offered their own private service.

Yes for monorail it is at the resort, resort boats are at MK on the boat dock.

Ahh, thanks. So there is no new change. It is no different.

Yeah they are using Disney drivers yet. Heck Magical Express is even third party through Meers. Met several bus drivers who said they were trying to get on with Disney proper because with Meers they aren't always magical express drivers they may get assigned a bus doing a party in Orlando or a conference etc.

Really? DD and I were offsite last summer and used Mears taxis to take us to/from the MK and EPCOT. we had them pick us up and drop us off at the CR lobby. Not sure how they'd be able to tell us apart from a CR guest?
I don't know how. This seems to be a recent development. In the past, when the car was empty I just had to tell the guard I was picking up a Guest for Uber and show my DL. Drivers see only the first name of the rider they're going to pick up, so the only way to tell the guard the full name would be to phone or text the rider, and a fair number of visitors (especially international ones) can't or won't answer phone calls while at WDW. Besides, that would back up the line at the guard shack terribly.

When there's been a Guest in the car, it's not been too uncommon for the guard to ask the Guest for their ID or MB; I'd estimate about half the time over all resorts.

Epcot is kind of a weird animal at the moment. If you are going from MK/MK resort to Epcot, there is no additional security check specifically for the Epcot monorail, because it's within the MK security bubble at TTC. However, you will have a security checkpoint after you exit the monorail on the other end before entering Epcot, as the exit is outside security. If you are going from Epcot to MK, the entrance to the monorail at Epcot is within the security bubble at Epcot, so there is no additional security check required, and no additional security required at TTC when you switch to the MK monorail since that switch is within the MK bubble.

I'm shocked you never carry your Id where it is accessible that it makes this such a big deal.

Why the shock? I carry my passport and it's too big to fit in my pocket and being it's on only travel ID after going through TSA it's promptly stored in my carry on luggage and I don't need it until I'm going back home.

If being offered through Disney booking I thought the same or that the drivers are at least "screened" thereby eliminating the need for ID at a resort gate

I'm shocked too. This isn't that big a deal to anyone else posting. Now the bolded above is no longer true. For your own peace of mind I think you need to think about an alternative plan for your arrival.

You misunderstood. Disney simply contracts out to a third party company. They are not Disney owned, Disney operated nor Disney screened. They are not Disney employees.

Mostly because I've always been told
if you have a state ID you should have it on you. Never know when you might have to identify yourself. Traveling domestically with your passport is also super crazy to me. Unless I'm going international my passport stays in the safe box at home because if I lose my passport my identity is pretty much screwed. Lose my ID and there is much less they can do with just that. With that said with the world as it is these days I also would prefer Id on me in the event someone needs proof of who I am.

Also just shocked you never need your Id. I need my ID for my AP discount, when I occasionally want an adult beverage, using my card not linked to my magic band and so on.

See my thinking is if I lose my passport I can get another when i get home although likely will be a pain, BUT if I lose my drivers license I can't drive when I get home which is critical to (1) get my dog from boarding; (2) get my kid to school;(3) get to work. I dont drink - at all - so my license pretty much just stays in my car. I know it's not the safe way to travel and I swear every trip I'll remember to take ID and insurance cards from the car glove box but alas I get to the airport with nothing but passport and luggage. Maybe this will be the year I remember.

Oh and we carry passports in case DD needs to be identified in any way - so since we bring hers we just bring all of ours and it serves as my form of ID too.

If the resort parking lots for resort guests only, then Disney shouldn't have such big restaurants in them, or advertise them to the general public. Otherwise, make Ohana, Chef Mickey's and the others for resort guests only. Or offer to validate parking if you have to park at TTC and monorail or walk to the monorail resorts to use the restaurants, shops or bars
Or, guests of the restaurants can park in a park lot and use WDW transportation to the resort to dine, IF those guests were prevented from parking at the venue.
