Has anybody been involved with a hit and run accident? I was last week(all ok!!!!) and I am just wondering what will happen next.

It is really odd as the person that hit us was in a well marked company van with a clear company name, logo and TWO phone numbers on it. In addition.... I have a 2023 car with a built in dash cam and was able to do instant playback on a big enough screen for the cop to see it and then take down all of the info needed.

He knew he hit my car. He had a passenger that saw us along side of him gesturing to pull over after he hit into us then kept going to the next lane without a care in the world... LOL Both of their responses were to wave, laugh, point then give us the finger and blow off into the fast lane. Ummmm. ok? If that is how your wallet and insurance wants to handle this you go and I will call 911:rotfl2:

Honestly I am just curious as to how this will end for that guy and if I will be able to find out what his punishment ended up being?

We have street parking and my neighbor's car was totaled. My car got hit separately, but technically wasn't a hit and run, just uninsured.

Weird that they'd be so obvious!

I had someone just drive away after rear ending me at a light. I pulled into the nearest parking lot and they just kept going. I didn't have any damage, thankfully, so didn't involve police or insurance at all.

I got lightly rear ended (did cause minor damage to my bumper) in the McDonald's drive thru. I called the police and they had us exchange information. He provided insurance info that turns out to have been canceled the day after it was taken out. The police wouldn't do anything. They have much bigger fish to fry. My only recourse would have been to take him to small claims court.

I don't know where you live but here is the summary of the consequences for hit and run in Massachusetts: The consequences of a hit-and-run conviction include fines, jail time and driver's license suspension. If the crash caused property damage only, the at-fault driver could face a fine of up to $200 and/or up to two years in jail, plus six months of driver's license suspension.

So if the police are able to follow up and make an arrest, they'll be out their job and could face some legal penalties.

Slightly different but my mother-in-law one time was in an accident with a trucking company who while they stopped they refused to provide insurance and contact information which is required by law here. She ended up submitting a complaint/request with the insurance commission of the state and then got the insurance information that way.

As far as punishment depends on how the police handle it and if they have recourse which depends on the laws and jurisdiction as well as how far they want to proceed with it. If it's just a fine they might be able to just take the dash cam footage and look up in the DMV to fine the company themselves not sure. The punishment may not be anything though truthfully. Some may fall onto company policy if criminal aspects don't truly apply.

We have access to highway patrol accidents so you can look up basic information that way but only if the highway patrol were the ones to do the report and you still wouldn't get the end result.

In hit and runs you almost never get to know what ends up happening.

3 weeks ago my car was door dinged so hard that there is no way the person who did it did not know. They left a big light paint mark on my dark blue car. Of course, there was no note. It was $900 to repair and repaint. Why can't people be more considerate?

Did some coloring....do you think it is going to be so hard to find the guy? This is the literal moment he hit me and this is a picture of the dashcam playing in my car and it's still pretty dang clear.... :rotfl2:

I think there's a good chance they will catch the people. Hit and runs seem to be the norm these days and, for that reason, I am thinking of investing in a dash cam. Seems the cops will go after them if you have the video and there's enough ID information recorded.

Where I live, many people are just driving around uninsured so it is worth for them to take the chance and run.

My stepdaughter was sitting in her car and got hit on a parking lot (car was parked). The damage was very minor, she got the plate number (it was an IL plate so that might have been part of the problem). She gave it to the police. nothing ended up happening, don't think she even heard back.

The driver will be fired. No company wants that sort of reputation. The passenger might also be fired, for flipping you off. But, since he seemed to want the driver to stop, he might get off with a reprimand.

You might be able to also sue in small claims court. The company might want to settle, so you might get a handsome settlement.

I hope you find out what happens. You've piqued my curiosity!

The fact you have a video with clear pictures of the suspect's vehicle/license plate makes me think the police can easily followup with that company. Likely their truck sustained some damage as well so it would be hard for them to deny involvement. I suspect the driver would get fired. What action is taken against the passenger (if also an employee) would probably depend on how the company wants to handle this. Not a lawyer but I would suspect there is some legal ramifications for a passenger in a hit and run accident. I think you can probably wait to hear back from the police (or even the company) before having to do anything else. Doubt the company wants to end up with a lawsuit where they are clearly liable.

My daughter was hit in the jersey turnpike, bug truck, driver was unaware. She took a photo and tried to follow him. Filed a police report, our insurance had a lawyer contact my daughter about a court appearance, but it was when she’d be away. We ended up paying $3000 for bodyw.

This was on Rt 80 Westbound on our commute home. Second time this year. This is my brand new replacement car I just got in May with only 7k miles on it. I got this car because my last car that I had for less than 2 years and only had 33k miles on it was totaled when we were rear ended on Route 80 Eastbound driving into work in March 🤣

I’ve only ever been involved in 2 accidents in my life. I’m a little concerned what round 3 could be. Since this one is much much much less damage than my last car maybe I’ll just get keyed next? 🤣

Had that happen before. Had witnesses and everything and someone got a license plate number. That wasn't enough, but my state requires uninsured motorist coverage and since they couldn't track down the perp the insurer paid for the repair cost.

You wanna really shame them? Take to social media. Google, yelp, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok. Shame the **** out of them.

Your insurance company should handle this for you. You pay premiums for coverage, for them to handle anything like this where there is an issue of coverage by the other driver.
