Hi all! We currently have a quick trip planned for my husband and I for Sept 22-24. We are staying on points at the swan.

We just put an offer on a BRV Aug UY contract with some dangling banked points (24) that have to be used this year. Provided we close in time, do you think there is any chance of getting a dvc studio anywhere on property for that weekend? We would prefer to use the dvc points that expire vs the spg points that we could use anywhere. I feel like it's a long shot, but just curious!

Long shot. Very long. If you just put the offer in, it's easily 60-120 days until you're have a member account. That's before we even talk availability.

You might be able to get a one bedroom at SSR. I'm confident that no studios will be available.

"Dangling banked points" that have to be used this year? For an Aug UY? We're currently in the 2016 UY for Aug. contracts. Are those 2015 points banked into 2016 or are they 2016 points that are banked into the 2017 UY?

If they 2015 points banked into 2016, you can't use them for Sept. If they're 2016 points banked into Aug. 2017, then they can be used for the dates you want but you're not likely to find availability for your dates. However, you would have until the night of July 31, 2018 to use them.

This is the case. There are 24 banked 2016 points that will expire July 2018. The 2017 points were transferred to another membership account.

What do you think the odds are of a 3 night Dec 2017 one bedroom booking? Better at least? Otherwise, is 24 pts too few to try to rent?

Just trying to determine our best use with those 24 points.

You'll be able to find something, somewhere for December, no problem.

The rental agencies want at least 75-100 points, so you would have to be willing to borrow 2018 points to make a reservation for a rental since you don't have any 2017 points coming.

Three nights in a 1-BR in Dec. is more likely than a studio but still a stretch.

I respectfully disagree. The beginning of December is a low points requirement time so that leads to huge demand. And the middle to the end of the month are the holidays, and well we all know how that goes. Currently the only resorts showing availability for three or more nights in a 1BR in December are AKV and SSR. And that's in July. By the time you close, I anticipate most of that availability to be gone. There is a chance you will still be able to sneak into SSR, but I would consider that a nice surprise and not an expectation.

24 points is definitely not too few to rent. You can post an ad here on the DIS Rent/Trade forums to rent them out. Also, one of the online brokers www.dvcrentalstore.com will take reservation requests of any size.

I just booked a studio for this Sunday and Monday, YESTERDAY! It is at Old Key West. Cancellations and openings do occur. I am traveling in December and pieced together a studio visit at VGF and BLT. If you are flexible you may be able to do it. Good luck!

you could also use those 24 points in combination with up to 24 one time use points at $15 a point direct thru disney.

Just a reminder that DVC can transfer inventory to Disney for cash reservations 60 days prior to any given check in date.

HI ..sorry to jump on the thread but we are in process and may have points that need to be used somewhat last minute... I'm not sure I understand your statement.. are you saying that if there is availability at th resort they can try to fill the rooms by offering the rooms the public for cash?

Yes, that's what is being said.

DVC is designed to run at full capacity 365 days a year. If, within 60 days, they have open points inventory, it is moved to breakage and it can be booked cash. Note that there is also dedicated cash inventory that is separate from member points inventory, well before 60 days.
