Very Early Meet - Aug 26, 2007 Wonder

My fiance of 8 years and I are getting married on the Aug 26 cruise.
We are bringing a group of 31 from Washington, Idaho, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas and Minnesota. Most of us are first time cruisers, and so excited!!! I am terrified of heights, water and getting married, so I plan on overcoming my fears all in one shot.:scared1: What was I thinking? My fiance always said that if we were going to get married it would be on a cruise, so here we are finally!:yay:

The cruise and the wedding are a complete surprise to our six children, DS23, DS22, DS17, DS15, DS11 and DS6. They are going to be so thrilled!! Are there any other teenagers going??

Anyone going all out for pirate night? My extended family are all having a blast planning their pirate attire! I hope we are not the only ones.

I am so grateful for the DISboards, I have learned so much. Thanks to all of you. ONLY 85 DAYS TO GO!!!

DH :surfweb: , DD (just turning 13):cutie: , DS 9:earsboy: , and ME :woohoo: will be on Aug 26 Wonder Cruise. Looking for advise on placing DD in with teens or 12 year olds. She will turn 13 at end of July and DD and I don't know if she's ready to hang out with the 15 - 17 year old crowd. Any thoughts or words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated. This is our first DCL outing and the kids' first cruise experience.

:cool1: I am taking three kids on this cruise - ds 12 - to be 13 just a week after our cruise and another ds 10 and dd 8 - disney will allow my son to go with the teen group - i am NOT thinking this is a good idea imho - I am keeping him in with the younger group - I am sure the teen group is a lot of fun - however, I dont want him getting into any sort of trouble, again, this is in regards to my son and his personality - your dd might be much more mature, i would actually bet on this. for me, better safe than sorry. I also dont like the amount of freedome the teen group has - as far as for my own child - so he stays where he is - he doesnt even know about the option to go with the teens, or he would be livid that i am keeping him with the 12 year old - best of luck in your decision

Thanks for the reply. DH and I have decided to let DD go with the teen group, with the understanding that if she feels uncomfortable, or is just not enjoying it, she can be switched into the 12 year old group and she should not hesistate to ask. Maturity was a concern on my part too, but looking back over the last 6 months, I can say I've seen growth in that area and I don't want to stifle it. I guess it's time to cut at least one of those apron strings and let DD make some choices on this vacation. She will not have permission to leave the ship on her own though. (That's the apron string that is still attached.)

What are the pools like on the Wonder? anyone btdt? I hear conflicting reports. Any slides for the kids or anything? Thanks
Colleen:cool1:

for the wonder they just added some section for the little kids in the mickey pool section, and they just added a new movie screen by the goofy pool.

hi everyone - just wondering the ages of all your children going on this cruise - i have an 8 yr old daughter - 10 yr old son and 12 yr old son - wondering if anyone else is in this age group? would like to hear from you and also what your plans are while on the ship? i think we are just going to hang around mostly - Ive been to Nassau a few times - we went on a carnival short cruise a few years back and i hated it - hoping for a more enjoyable experience this time - if not - my husband will not cruise again, i assure you of that!!! Ive only cruised with the kids that one time - prior I loved cruising - so lets get me psyched for this cruise - i dont want it to be a bust - maybe the kids can find some friends to make it more enjoyable for me.........:cool1:

We are going on our first Disney cruise on August 26. We booked this trip back in March 2006, but just discovered these boards.

DW  and I :pirate: have been on one other cruise (RCCL) a couple of years ago and had a blast. This time we are bringing our sons (ages 7 :yay: and 11 :happytv: ). We will be driving down from Richmond, VA (we love road trips). We are doing the land-and-sea package (staying at the Beach Club Resort) and are in a Cat. 6 room.

We have done WDW several times but never stayed on the property (and it has always been during the colder months), so we may not even do the major parks on this trip and instead hit Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach and save the main park passes for a future trip. Does anyone know if the passes they give you are tied specifically to this trip or are they like the regular ones where the clock doesn't start until your first use?

We are going to rent a Stretch Limo to take us to the port (we are driving a large conversion van that doesn't like parking garages, so this eliminates worry about parking at the port. Plus it is cool :cool2: ). Anyone have experience with Happy Limo?

We are celebrating three things with this trip; our 20th wedding anniversary, my 43rd birthday, and the end of the year taking care of our grandson (DD22 US Army safely returned from Iraq).

Reading through all the posts, it looks like several of you will be in the same general area we are. I look forward to meeting y'all.

Steve

Welcome DAggiesRWe!!!

DH and I will be celebrating 19 years tomorrow. It goes by so fast.

It's just dh, ds (will be 7 on 8/23) and I travelling. This is one of the few trip the three of us make by ourselves. Usually it's parents, cousins and aunts coming. Our last group was 14 strong.

We are coming in full pirate gear. Last year I tried putting eyeliner on dh, but he was a blinking fool. My cousins husband had it on and it looked great. My aunt brought a cork to burn and make my uncle look dirty and scruffy and it almost set off the sprinkler system. We won't be doing that.

I haven't made any door signs. Oh poop. I just ordered from Oriental Trading and forgot to get pirate decorations. Oh well. I'll have to order again for ds's birthday anyway.

Did any cc making their ressies yet?

I can't wait!

Dh and I will be dressedpirate: Last year we had our picture taken with the white background while dressed...what a blast! Our friends love it, and it's a nice souvenir, we usually don't buy the pictures on ship, but this was an exception.

Wow lots of interesting action on these boards lately...

A wedding! CONGRATS Bloxy....
A 20th Anniversary! Congrats to Daggies... and thanks to you DD for serving!

I have similar issues with the age breaks for the kids activities. I had a DD who will just turn 8 and another DD that is 5. I am sure if they are in the same group it will go well. And my 8 year old is not socially saavy and I would prefer her to stay with the 5-7s.

We'll see.

I cant wait... cause I need a vacation!

I can answer the question about the passes. If you have added the no expiry option they will never expire. Otherwise the clock starts ticking on first use and you have 14 days before they expire.

I was wondering what types of referrals you guys use for "free" money - for instance, i got a chase disney visa and recieved a 50.00 disney gift card - also booked my cruise with that card and recieved another on board credit - recieved a credit from my travel agent and now i do recieve money back from using my visa (which ihave put everything on - tuition etc, to get a gift card from that - ill probably end up with about 300 bucks to use towards excursions. I signed up for sunshine rewards too - that is pretty good, not as good as chase - but free money just the same - if you are interested in sunshine rewards you can check them out and sign up here - it is free to sign up - thankfully

http://www.sunshinerewards.com/signup.php?r=5388

but is anyone using anything else??????? i am interested and only have about one month left to get freebies!!!!!!:confused3

today i am going to buy my actual park tickets - so that will go on the disney visa for rewards as well. looking forward to getting some stuff done - ive been out of the loop - sadly my dad passed away last week - he wouldve loved to hear all about his grandchildrens trip!!! ahhhh the circle of life.

so please pass along all good offers you here of

thanks - see you all in august!

Colleen,
I don't have any info on free stuff, but I just wanted to say that I am sorry about your Dad passing. My prayers go out to you and your family.

Thank you to all of you on my dads passing - being an only child - it means a lot to me to hear from anyone!!! he was great and would have wanted to have his grandchildren enjoy the "fun" - I will miss him terribly - the man he was - thanks for your postings!!!!!!! I have tried in the past to have him come with us on vacations - he was not a great traveler - i wish i could have taken him and my mom on this cruise or any cruise - but thanks guys!!!! :grouphug:

HAPPY 75 DAYS OUT EVERYONE!!

I tried to get Palo reservations for brunch but No luck! Oh well....I wasn't getting up in the middle of the night to do it. We are planning on getting to the terminal early so we will try our luck when we board!

I also tried to book Palo reservations for brunch this morning - It was likely already filled by the CC members. Next time we will be CC members too, so I am sure we will have better luck then.

Colleen,

So sorry to hear about your Dad. He sounds very special.

We are family of all teenagers. DS 17 and DS 13 this month. I showed my son the Disney video and he thought he would like to be in the teenage group. We are going to WDW before and after the cruise. Staying at POR before and POFQ after. We are having a late celebration of our 20th anniversary since we could not take the DS 17 out of school in June as he had final exams. We did the Bahamas cruise for our honeymoon 20 years ago at the end of June. Was not that impressed with Nassau nor the straw market then. The boys will want to get off the ship so that they can say they have been to Nassau but I plan on getting back early to spend time aboard the ship.

We want to do the stingrays in CC. Has anyone done the stingrays on CC?

Has anyone gone on the Wildside Teen excursion? DS 17 wants to go on that instead of the stingrays with us and DS 13.

Is the Atlantis water park that much better than Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach? It sounds extremely expensive for a day at the water park when I can get 6 days of water parks for $50 pp when I add the water parks and more to 7 WDW pass.
