I am sure this is posted somewhere (more than once I would guess) but I did search, and was unable to find the answers :confused3

What airport is best to fly into for Vero Beach? Do you need to rent a car?

I remember people stating a preference for the ocean view rooms over the studios....comments, tips, suggestions! Please!

Thanks!

Melbourne would be closest to VB I believe:scratchin

Yes, you'll need a car or some kind of airport limo service to get you to and from the resort...a car rental car would be much better though IMO as you'll probably want to venture out and visit resturants or other attractions during your stay and for what you'd pay for an airport transport you could probably be spending not much more just to have a car for the week.

As for preference between the Ocean view Inn room vs. studios....the inn rooms will have 2 queen beds and if you book ocean view you'll get ocean view...the studios will have 1 queen bed and a pull out sofa bed and ocean views are hit and miss and in the the outside villa bldgs rather than the main inn bldng. It all depends on the set up you prefer and if you want the definete ocean view. Both have the kitchenette and same setup otherwise though;)

We just got back from a week at VB Sat. night and it was wonderful! The CM's are great and it's just beautiful:) If you have more questions, ask away!

Melbourne is the closest airport but sometimes it can be difficult/more expensive to fly into (sometimes not, depends where you are coming from). Orlando and West Palm are roughly the same distance.

A car lets you get out and explore the area...I would recommend a rental.

I prefer Orlando International. You have a greater selection of airlines, times and rental car companies and a better chance of getting a lower fare. The airport is located far enough away from Orlando that you can avoid traffic. I always make it ot Vero in about 1hr and 20 minutes and the drive is an easy one. I think a car is needed to enjoy the area and limo transportation to Vero DVC from Orlando will cost you more than a rental car. Have a great trip.
My son & I will be leaving Saturday and can't wait.

Hi Everyone:

Thank you for the replies. I have not yet found a non-stop flight to MLB from Boston, (I don't think they exist) and the flights with stops are more $$ than a non-stop from Orlando. Since I am so familiar with MCO, I will probably fly there. So my next thought is how to get from MCO to VB. I am not big on driving myself--DH is not going on this trip, just me, my sister and my son. I am a wimp!!!!!!!!! ;) I know the car services will go that far, but will it be cost prohibitive?

Getting to VB from MCO is very easy. There will be directions on the confirmation letter from MS. Here's what the DVC Member website says -

From Orlando International Airport (Via I-95 South)
Take the Beeline (528) toll road east to I-95 South.
Follow I-95 South to 512 East - exit 69 (New:156) Sebastian/Fellsmere.
Turn left/east on 512 to US 1 (6.5 miles).
Turn right/south on US 1 to 510 (4.5 miles).
Turn left/east on 510 to A-1-A (2.5 miles).
Turn right on A-1-A.
The resort is immediately on the left.

I've driven it and unless you plan to go when there are races at Daytona, you aren't going to find all that much traffic. It really is easy and you will be glad you have a car, once you get to the resort. Not much to do within walking distance - you need a car to venture outside the resort. Don't remember how much the car services charge, but I'm quite sure a rental will be less expensive.

Best wishes -

I really enjoy Vero, but I think I would feel a bit claustrophobic without a car, and there's not THAT much to do at the resort (other than relax, which is part of the charm.) The resort isn't that big.....How long are you staying? Vero itself is a cute town, worth exploring.

"I always make it ot Vero in about 1hr and 20 minutes and the drive is an easy one".

From MCO to Vero Beach in 1hr 20 Minutes is quite quick. What are you driving?

I agree that a car is needed and MCO is the best airport. We were there last summer in a one bedroom and had a ocean view. Before the hurricane you needed to be up high, but I heard a lot of the vegetation is gone so I don't know if that is still the case.

My memory is a little foggy with age. I guess my 1 hour 20 minutes was wishful thinking because I wanted to be there faster....... I am sure it doesn't take over 2 hours. I checked Mapquest and it is 92 miles from Orland MCO Airport.

We always fly into Orlando and rent a car, but we also always spend the bulk of the time at WDW and two or three days at VB DVC. I can take only so much relaxing. ;)

The drive is less than two hours and IMHO you really need a car at VB anyway since there is not much within walking distance of the resort except the beach. :)
