Just wondering about having a few nights at Vero Beach rather than the Gulf Coast. Anybody got any comments?

Do you mean at Disney's resort? It is a lovely resort - very relaxing and has a lovely beach and a very nice pool. It was quiet there when we went which meant the beach was quiet - on the Gold Coast the sea isn't as calm as the Gulf so you do need to be a bit careful if you are swimming and very watchful of little ones.

Only been there on business but it is very nice and well worth at least a day visit.

We did our first DVC Vero Beach stay this past July and it was fabulous! One of the best, most relaxing vacations we've ever had. The place was totally booked, so the pool was a bit crowded. They have lots of activities for the kids and the beach is really nice. I wasn't so crazy about the restaurants, but we had a one bedroom, so I cooked a bit. We didn't do any sightseeing, as this was supposed to be a relaxing vacation. We didn't want to leave.

I took a bunch of digital photos and I'm working on getting them posted. Once I accomplish this feat, I'll post a link on this board.

We have never stayed at Vero Beach, but our friends have and they said it was a really relaxing, beautiful resort.

It was fully booked when they went too, but they said they couldn't really feel the crowds, except around by the swimming pool. They said that the beach was quite nice, but like somebody else said, the water was quite rough and a slightly more chilly compared to the E.Coast.

Richard.

If you're looking at Disney's Vero Breach hotel, it's a great resort and top class service and facilities. You'll get a good amount of information from the DVC boards, you can also do a search on Disney's own website.
Vero Beach itself is a fairly quiet town, although there are a number of good restaurants in the town. There are some decent golf courses, a good nature reserve area plus a treasure museum ( there were many wrecks off the coast so this is quite a full exibit apparantly) and the beach area is pretty good, although as has been said in winter it can be a little chilly (being the Atlantic coast) and can get a little rough. The beach by DVC @Vero is , generally safe, (although as with anywhere around Florida you must be aware of beasties) but a couple of miles up the coast is one of the inlets to the "lagoon" area behind the islands that lie just off the Florida coast, because of the high number of "bait fish" that go in and out of these chanels it is a favourite spot for the larger preditor fish ( read sharks) to patrol. Don't take this to much to heart, almost anywhere around florida shores there are sharks, just be aware this is the case and swim accordingly.

Thanks for the information. I tried to book 3 nights in October but they are not taking bookings yet. I will keep trying.

We spent a great week there, although we would only do 3 days if booking again.
We watched a Shuttle launch from the beach and although it is some 20/30 miles away (?) the noise and excitement was awesome.
Looking for sharks teeth on the beach or perhaps some washed up treasure (it is the Gold Coast) is really relaxing and surprisingly the kids enjoyed this as much as us old folks.
