Hello,

In regards to the refurbs, are the TV's going to be HD, or just standard flat screen?

We'll be there 8/27 thru 8/30. Tentative plans are for Ocean Grill on the 27th, Sonya's on the 28th ( our anniversary), and somewhere in Vero, maybe Ocean Grill again, on the 29th. We're staying in an OVIR once again.

Last year we made the mistake of not using sunscreen, thinking since we already had a good tan, it wouldn't matter. We learned our lesson, and have packed several tubes for this trip!!

We'll also be reserving an umbrella and chairs once again, and bringing our own boogie boards.

Take care,

Bill

Hearsay, but my understanding is 27" plasma screens.

Have a great trip. I added you to the roll call.

Hi everyone!!

We are heading down to Vero on Tuesday (keeping my fingers crossed for good weather!! :scared1: ) Anyway - I have a few questions:

Chair/Umbrella rental - can you rent for a week at a time or just daily?? Has anyone brought chairs with them (like purchased at a local store)??

Do they supply you w/towels for the beach, or will I have to bring something along for that??

I was hoping VB was the same as Castaway Cay - and chairs/umbrellas/towels were all provided... Being we are flying down, I can't bring too much stuff..

Obviously this is our first 'real' trip to VB - we went there last year for one night - in February - basically only to sleep - didn't get to do much around the resort - so, any suggestions?

Again - we leave Tuesday, checking out on Saturday, driving up to Port Canaveral and departing on the Wonder on Sunday - WOO HOO!!

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Laurie

Hi all !
At Vero now (2nd floor Inn)......
Ozzie's is still boarded up----I just drove past it about 15 min ago.

And the TV's will be "flat screens"....heard a CM telling another guest this last night. She also said by the end of next year, new carpets and new sofa beds. I couldn't hear the rest of their conversation.

Been pretty rainy and overcast here the last 3 days.....the mornings are good up until like noon.....then the clouds have been rolling in.

Maria -

So - what are you doing in the afternoon being the weather hasn't been so good? That is my fear next week too - w/the storm coming, that we'll be trapped in the room w/nothing to do!!! UGHHHHHHHHHHHh

We were there in 06 when tropical storm Ernesto came through... It was a non event... but the CMs were spectaclular.... they kept everyone occupied and the kids didn't seem to care about the storm.

Thanks for your help! I am hoping it passes - This will be our first attempt at a non-WDW vacation in a LONG time - and we'll be at the beach and it'll rain the whole time.. UGHHHHHHHHHHh

Hi....we've been all over the place. Going out to shop for my dd's dorm room, visiting with my aunt and uncle who are about 15 min away.....watching movies in the room (DVD's are free to members), doing BORING laundry---but it's a necessary evil. My girls are teens so they're not too much into the resort activities. One day they just ran around outside in the rain. We're actually spending a good amount of time on FL Tech's campus too (getting dd's internet up and running--that was a bit tricky. Buying her a TV and setting that up....etc). We're heading to the beach very soon though. We were there yesterday too for about an hour. There are about 8 turtle nests there now.
I haven't seen or heard from any of the other DIS'ers though ? I'm in 2236 if anyone wants to stop by ! We check out on Tues. I'm in and out though....

Ah.... We'll be checking in on Tuesday - We'll be passing you on our way in!! LOL

Enjoy the rest of your stay!

We had reservations for 2, 2 bdrms at SSR for our March break 2009 trip.
I called Friday and was able to switch to a Beach cottage for 5 nights, Mar 15 to the 20th. There will be 8 of us, including 4 teenagers. Really excited about it, but am hoping there is enough to keep the teenagers busy. Open for any suggestions from all of you Vero beach experts. We have not been to Vero beach before. TIA

Great about the Beach Cottage!! Now about your teens, can you say BOARD GAMES? Really, there is no nite life around the town. There aren't any lights out on the beach due to the sea turtle nesting. No mall nearby, etc. Bring some cards, a Sony playstation, and have plenty of snacks!

I wrote a detailed trip report on TGM, and now I'm reposting it over here. We went to Vero Beach for the 1st 2 night. It's full of pics and videos. If you'd like to read from the beginning the link it in my signature.

Or you can start at our arrival to Vero Beach. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=26973809&postcount=17

I'll be updating daily!

Hey Kris, We were in the room right next door (2413) in June. Thanks for the link... I always love your reports.

Hi Rob & Laurie. Laurie have a nice stay---unfortunately you are coming in on a very bad predicted weather day ! I am concerned about flying out of here. Delta is already cancelling some flights for tommorrow. So far I have Southwest set up to text us with any info about our 6 pm flight to Philly tommorrow. This area is set to get 3-6 inches of rain today and Tues. Winds 40-50 mph. There is talk that this tropical storm will be a possible Cat 1 tommorrow over most of FL. I'm running to FL Tech now to check on my dd. I called the school about a few items and they hinted the campus may be closed tommorrow. Want to make sure she has provisions in case of power outtage. She already has a few things. Just want to add some things. Stay safe and dry to all DIS'ers already here at VB or coming in !

Ok....got word the beach is closed on Tues via message on room phone.

Not looking good for me flying home tommorrow either....saw this on the Southwest site :
Due to the conditions surrounding Tropical Storm Fay, our scheduled service to/from Orlando (MCO) on Tuesday, August 19 will be disrupted; and as such, our MCO flights may be delayed, diverted, or cancelled.

Before checking in online or proceeding to the airport, contact Reservations (1-800-435-9792) to check the status of your flight.

Southwest Airlines Customers holding reservations to/from MCO on Sunday, August 17 through the close of business Wednesday, August 20, 2008 wanting to alter their travel plans may rebook in the original class of service or travel standby (within 14 days of their original date of travel between the original city-pairs and in accordance with our accommodation procedures) without paying any additional charge.

Boy did I pick the wrong day to fly home :sad2:

Hope all are doing well with the storm and all...I'll be flying in on Friday morning and hopefully all the nastiness will be gone by then :goodvibes

They might enjoy some more physical activities...
rent wave runners
play in the surf
go on a kayak tour (look at a couple of the companies in the area - some neat trips)
rent bikes
Mini golf - have your own tournament
tennis
croquet/shuffleboard/pingpong
sand castle building

I think you are in good shape since there are 4 of them. They can hang out together.
