Thanks Lisa and Keliblue !

I did check.....no room at Vero. Besides, we had to return our rental car because they were going to charge an arm and a leg for extra days. So I called WDW and we're now at POP and using ME. I sure hope our flight tommorrow is not cancelled ! SW booked us for 12:45 pm to Philly. But this storm is very slow moving and gaining strength they're saying on TV. A tornado touched down about 15 min from my dd's campus near FL Tech. We pass that Barefoot Bay community that got hit every time we drive to her school. I'd say we passed it about 15 times in the past week. We were even making fun of the name. Now we see that 51 homes were destroyed. When we left Vero Beach----there were radio and TV warnings of the tornado approaching Vero Beach/Wabasso/Sebastian. We were maybe 20 min away when we heard the news. I don't know if it ever hit, but the waves/wind/rain were bad when we left. Rain water was coming inside the lobby doors.

OMG Maria,

The weather channel is really focusing on the Vero area:eek: Please stay safe !!! and keep us posted ... you are in our thoughts

Thanks so much Keliblue.....
We drove off VB property a mere 20 min after the radio alert for a tornado warning there was announced. We were on I 95 when they were warning drivers to pull off to the side of the road and hide in a ditch if a funnel cloud was spotted ! The rain was so heavy you could barely see to drive.....and the winds were really rocking our car on the road. The closer I got to WDW, the better it got. My dd's school closed yesterday and is closed today and tommorrow due to wind damage and flooding.
We are now safely home......landed in Philly at 3 pm. I'm curious to heard from other DIS'ers how the VB resort fared after we left. I snapped some pics which I will later from 8/19.

You're right Rob ! And, thanks, it is good to be sleeping in my own bed tonight.

BTW....to Ham Ham and Jazmyin.....I did leave your names with the luggage CM for the chair swap ! One CM seemed to know all about the swap and was really nice about it. The guy who we returned the chairs and umbrella to seemed quite clueless. I repeated a couple times that he was to include your names and I gave him a paper that I had printed out with your names and arrival dates. Enjoy !

Does anyone know if there was any damage or beach errosion at VB? The last post I read was that the rain was coming in the front doors of lobby. Hopefully it was only a lilttle wind driven rain.

Haven't heard about VB. I read that Sebastian just north of VB got the most rain:

Taken from TCPalm.com this morning
SEBASTIAN — Unofficially, it looks like Sebastian had the highest rainfall during Tropical Storm Fay's stay on the Treasure Coast: 18 1/2 inches as of Wednesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service doesn't have official rain gauges in Sebastian, but amateur weather buff Artie Mayer collected the rain between 4 p.m. Monday and 3 p.m. Wednesday in each of his two Acu-Rite rain gauges at his home on Benshop Street in northwest Sebastian.

"That is not surprising," said National Weather Service technician Mike Turner of Melbourne. "It fits the pattern."

"It is a lot of rain," said Mayer, 64. "But we needed it."

SEBASTIAN HAS HIGHEST RAINFALL

• Vero Beach Airport — 8.39 inches

• St. Lucie County Airport in Fort Pierce — 11.26 inches

• Nettle's Island on Hutchinson Island, St. Lucie County — 12.15 inches

• Stuart — 13.83 inches

• Melbourne — 13.22 inches

• Melbourne: 7.95 inches

• Martin County: 8.68 inches

• Fort Pierce: 3.44 inches

• Vero Beach: 5.08 inches

• Fort Pierce: 7.05 inches

The resort's lobby doors face west and are not storm tight doors. And since low pressure systems spin counter it would make sense that they are experiencing some wind driven rain now being on the bottom/back side of the storm. I can't imagine there is any flood waters making it up to the Inn.

Since the storm came from the southwest it likely didn't cause much of a tidal surge to errode the beach (hopefully).

Good Luck to all that are waiting it out. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a beautiful day.

Thanks for your quick reply Rob. 6 inches or 13 inches of rain. It is still alot. My heart goes out to everyone in the area. I will stick with my occasional Blizzard in the Northeast, thank you.

Hopefully it was only a lilttle wind driven rain.
Yes, draw....this is what I witnessed......water was being blown up on the back deck and coming under the doors (which really should be replaced with better ones !). Now that is what I saw on Tues, Aug 19 around 1:00 pm. I left shortly after that. I was hoping we'd get some updates from DIS'ers who are still there. But VB only has wireless in the lobby area/and partial hallways.....so getting online is a bit of a pain there. They need to get up and with the 21st century ! :rotfl:

We will be at VB Nov 20 - 22 after our stay at the BWV. Is it possible to get our names on the chair swap list? How does that work?

JoEllen

Hope all is well with those who have been riding out the storm this week. I'm due to get to VB tomorrow morning (and hopefully without any problems!)

Five inches of rain doesn't sound like that much but the Northerners know that amount would be equal to 50 inches of snow!

Sharing a couple of the very short video clips and photos I snapped while at VB on Tues, Aug 19---the day "Faye" was rolling in.

Taken around 9 am :

You're welcome. Happy to share.
I have some very pleasent ones of VB too....but I knew everyone's mind was on the Faye issue and since we lived that first-hand, figured I'd share. I could have gotten more photos and video but didn't want to destroy my camera. The rain was just blowing around.

Oh yeah, have you talked to your daughter? How is she doing? Is she liking school?

Hi everyone,

We will be in Vero Beach for the first time November 1 - 4 after our Disney Magic cruise! I had a few questions I was hoping you all could answer for me.

1. Waverunners - Does anyone know the cost and the age they allow children to ride with an adult? They have this at Castaway Cay but it seems to be very expensive and was hoping to do it while at Vero.

2. I see that the chair swap thread is closed - Is there any other list going around that I could join?

3. We are staying in a 1 BR - any recommendations on which building to stay in or anything to increase the chance of getting ocean view?

I haven't had a chance to read through the entire thread yet, so I apologize if any of these have been answered already!

Thanks,
Michelle

I would like to see the pleasant ones too please!

Hi Lori !
DD so far is really liking FL Tech---even with all the havoc Faye unloaded. She just sent me some photos she took around campus though. Lots of flooding and some damage. But she is dealing well with her first real experience on her own away from home. Thanks for asking :)

I'll share some of the pics from our stay at VB before Faye arrived. First of all, we were a garden view Inn room on second floor (2236). This was a really large corner L-shaped room. We had had an L-shaped room on the 3rd floor on our last stay, but this one was much bigger. And had LOTS of windows ! I didn't even know they had rooms like this. Of course, our view wasn't much---we overlooked the entrance to the underground garage from our balcony. And from our windows we looked out at the entrance to the Inn.

Then..the BIG bonus portion of the room. We could have held a party in this part of the room !
