Okay, I just have to get this out and over with. Yesterday, I went shopping with my DD13 for a Halloween Costume. Yes, we waited until the last minute only because I was trying to get her to make one at home. Nope, gotta have one out of the package just like everyone else.

So off to the store we go. OMG! The inappropiatness of the costumes for teens is unreal! I could not believe it. So, after I catch my breath and try to find one that is 1) appropriate, ie: not cut down to here, or the skirt up to there, or have thigh highs and 2) in a price range I was willing to pay, I narrowed it down to one. The Eskimo Girl. Nope friend was already wearing that one! UGH!

In the meantime, I'm realizing that the majority of these costumes are SOLD OUT! Which means, parents are actually buying this junk for these girls!

So of course, after I've told my DD that I will NOT buy one that is inappropriate, I have a child near tears. Am I the ONLY parent who will NOT buy into this? Am I the only one who refuses to allow my DD 13 to look like a tramp on Halloween?

If parents are so against this, I really wish they they would stand up and say no to their kids and say no to the stores. Don't buy this junk. I've always said that I'm one who votes with my dollars and I won't support things/ideas that I don't agree with.

Ok, feeling better. BTW, my DD got black wings and worked it from there.

DGD (11) looked at the costumes - was not happy (or comfortable) with what she saw, and made up her own pirate costume from things around the house.. She looks every year, but has stopped using the "store bought" costumes since she outgrew the princesses and stuff.. Pretty bad when even an 11 yr. old is shocked - huh?

:rotfl: In a huge parka and ski pants?

I'm just teasing you. I definitely would not let my 13 year old wear most of the girl costumes I saw in the stores. Sixteen would be pushing it.

I didn't see a single teen in a store bought costume-some props yes, but the majority of the costumes were homemade. DD had a store bought one last year that was pretty revealing (I DID NOT BUY IT) but she never would have worn it as is--she put under armor under it so it looked like part of the costume. I think the issue with the costume was that it was meant for someone with a chest and she didn't have one :lmao:.

Oh yes, I noticed this too and my DD is only 10! Why on earth they put seductive looking kids on the front of these costume packages I will never know and the darn things are so short... like the hot pants my friends used to wear in NYC nightclubs in the 80's & 90's. Personally, I tend to find the images creepier than anything else they are selling in the Halloween store.

Don't even get me started on the padded bras for tweens and heeled shoes for a size 1-2 shoe:rolleyes2

Ok, the padded bra issue--when DD first "needed" something the little sports bra things didn't cover enough and you could still make out the little mosquito bites. The padded bra thing was more of a concealment thing than a "I wan't bigger ...." thing. In other words, the boys at school teased the girls so the girls "hid" them :lmao:.

I was going to say the same thing, actually. I know some of our grade 5's and 6's wear them to prevent things from showing then they get cold. I actually overheard an entire conversation about this once. :rotfl: I never would have though elementary students would even think about this sort of thing, but there you have it.

My oldest daughter just graduated from college, she said halloween seemed to be an excuse for some girls to dress like Hos.She used to call it CEOs and Corporate Hos, Golf Pros and Golf Hos.

I actually saw a girl (probably early 20s) go into a party in a costume. the skirt was so short I could see ber butt cheeks and she was standing up straight :sad2:

I have to say we saw a few girls who looked like terrors while trick or treating.
1) play boy bunny. She was about 12 or 13 at most. At least it was a home made costume LOL!
2) naughty nurse, she was a bit older, maybe 14 :scared1:
3) slutty vampire, she was about 14 as well.

Long legged scrawny things with the little they have on display for the world.
Not only should the girls be slapped into sense, so should their moms!

Yes, I know, I know... someone will come on a say "How did YOU know how old they were. Maybe she was actually 15."
Well, you are right. Maybe they were 15 year old play boys, naughties and sluttys and not 14. I admit this in advance. :rolleyes1

I think its crazy im 16 and my friend who is 14 (she skipped a kindergarden so she is only a grade behinde me ) i went to help her with her costume yesterday. she siaid she wanted a "sluty" costume but i talked her into putting on together she had me turn a pair of jeans into shorts she told me to make them 8 inches long (she was being a biker btw) and that was WAY to short for her so i added a couple inches with out her knowing and she never will.

I didn't see any trick or treaters wearing those types of outfits. My DD, however, wore the one below. Of course, she is 21 so there isn't a lot I can say about it.

I can't believe some of the costumes we saw out there too!! The following is a true conversation lol...

(the scene)..went to the mall with Remy who is 11 and Holly who is 5 to do our tricker treatin...as we were walking in the girls and I were commenting on some of the cool costumes we saw...

Me:
Look its the ghostbusters! Too bad Phil (my fiance) is working, he would LOVE those!

Holly (she was a vampire princess):
Is everyone a princess?!
..look mom, Batman!!

Remy (who was a witch): (noticing two teen girls wearing I kid you not corsets, boyshort panties, garters and thigh high heeled boots with black wings):
And there goes a pair of hookers...

Now, this is when I stopped dead in my tracks and did the furious whispering for Remy to NEVER say something like that again...tho isn't it amazing that an eleven year old girl called those teens out?! I wonder what their parents were thinking letting them out in public wearing what amounts to lingerie!? Or if the poor ppl even knew!

:lmao: I'm sorry, but your daughter's hilarious.

Dd13 hasn't asked me to buy her a costume since the 6th grade. That being said, she did go out wearing a black cami and a black miniskort with hot pink wings and a crown. :lmao: The only did a few homes in a local neighborhood, and then had a small girls only party at her friend's home.

The bras used to bug me, too, until I asked my dd if she wanted me to find some without the padding. She was horrified - "what if I am cold!" :scared1:

This year DD was a witch, full head to toe black gown. I bought it in the adult plus sized section, cut about 6 inches off the bottom and belted the rest. This was the only section where it wasn't slutty.
Her friend went as a "sexy" witch. Her friend is 10. She had on fish net stockings and a costume that came up to her butt and her black high heeled boots. DD wore her teal "Ugg" knock-offs from Justice. Okay, they didn't match but she didn't care. :thumbsup2

We purchased pirate costumes for our upcoming cruise. DD has a black t-shirt and leggings for under the costume and even I bought some black leggings for me. She also picked up next year's costume yesterday at half off. We plan to go to WDW next year so she picked the Queen of Hearts. She will wear a t-shirt underneath it and leggings. Even though its adorable you can see her underwear even when she was standing. She's only 5 feet tall and the costume wasn't tight at all. It's a shame what they are doing to these girls. :sad2:

This wasn't sexy, but I saw a young girl, maybe a teen or tween, dressed as a pregnant Octomom out Trick or Treating (with baby dolls tied all over her). My opinion, if you are old enough to be wearing a preggo outfit, you are definitely too old to be trick or treating.

That costume idea was shown on one of the morning talk shows. I don't remember which one. I'll bet her mom saw it and suggested it to the kid.

My (almost)14yo DD and I went to iParty in our search for a costume for her (goth, lol) and she was absolutely DISGUSTED at the costumes that were supposed to be for "teens". She wouldn't in a million years wear something like what we saw; everything, with VERY few exceptions, seemed to be created to make the wearer look like they were for rent. :headache:

She found the costume she wore at Wal-Mart; it was cute and gothy while not trashy. Am I allowed to say trashy? :lmao:

if we get store bought costumes for my dd's 13 and 12, I have rules.

Turtle necks or long sleeve t's underneath the top
leggings for below
nothing "thigh high"
