Hi everyone! After five trips to Disney we're finally planning on trying Le Cellier on our next trip. I was always really excited about trying the Cheddar Cheese soup since I've heard nothing but good things about it... until I heard about the bacon, since my mom and I are vegetarians. Is there any way I can request a vegetarian version? I've heard about calling ahead and mentioning it, but is that still available? Should we just ask at the table? What would you suggest? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

They'd probably have to make it special for you, without the bacon. Not sure they have a vegetarian version on hand. It would be best for you to call the restaurant directly (not WDW-DINE but the restaurant itself) and discuss it with them. You could ask at the table but then, if they could do it, you'd run the risk of having to wait while they prepared it. You should also ask if there are any other non-vegetarian ingredients involved in the soup.

I would love to know the answer to this too. I would love to indulge in some of their soup if made sans bacon!

My guess is that the soup is not vegetarian for more than just the bacon...it's probably made with chicken stock, and it's unlikely they would make a whole batch of soup with vegetable stock instead just for one person.

This is an issue for a lot of soups that don't otherwise have meat in them (and not just at Disney World...everywhere) - they are made with chicken or beef stock or in the case of Japanese soups have fish paste or granules added, so they aren't vegetarian even if there no actual pieces of meat in them.

It couldn't hurt to try to call the restaurant at least a week in advance of your reservation and ask to speak to the chef about have a vegetarian version of the soup made - the worst that can happen is they'll say they can't do it, and best case scenario you'll get a vegetarian version of the cheese soup.

That's what I thought. We avoid soups ats restaurants since they're usually made with either beef or chicken stock. I remember reading a trip report one time where the women was a vegetarian and te restaurant made her a special version. I'll have to just call and ask around a week before. Thanks again!

If you do call ahead and they agree to make you a vegetarian version, I'd definitely like to hear about it. That's one soup that sounds delicious, but that I'd love to try if they are willing to make it vegetarian.

Me too. I love cheese soup. :)

You can contact WDW Dining and get the phone number for the restaurant or you can contact WDW Special Diets via email through WDW.MK.Special.Diets (at) disney.com and inquire about vegetarian fare.

They will provide you with a vast array of information regarding TS and CS as well as snack options that are vegetarian. For example, anything with marshmallows likely has gelatin and may or may not be made from a vegetarian gelatin. Sounds odd but most marshmallows sold in the store have an 'animal-based' gelatin in the ingredients.

Anyway, contact Special Diets and they'll email you more information than you probably really wanted.

Have Fun!

Yea, marshmallows are another thing we avoid, unless we boy kosher marshmallows ourselves! Thanks for all the info everyone!

My guess is that since there are vegetarian options on the menu, they wouldn't be willing to whip up a new soup - and it would be a new soup entirely if it were to be made completely vegetarian. The restaurants at WDW are definitely friendly to lots of different diets, but I would think they would stop short of this... I don't know, but I'd be interested in hearing what you find out!

I consider myself to be vegetarian, and while I don't eat bacon or use meat based stocks when I cook at home, I try to be a little flexible when I eat out. No judgments - I say this only to give context to the next sentence. I tried the cheese soup at Le Cellier in January, and it was good, but it didn't blow me away. The predominant flavor was bacon (which my husband loved), but it wasn't any better or worse than any other cheese soup I've ever had. The pretzel bread on the other hand was AMAZING!

Someone posted the new Le Cellier menu and there was a tomato salad that sounded really good...
