Vegas hotel suggestion

Considering a trip to Vegas.... Oct. or November this year....

What would folks recommend for hotels? (on the strip preferred).... DVC Points accepted anywhere cool?

Would be willing to spend up to $150 a night. I've never been anywhere except DisneyWorld..it's time to expand the horizons a bit! (but not too much)...

How's the weather in oct. or nov out there?

We have gone to Las Vegas both during October and November and in October it was still hot-humid. I would suggest drinking alot of liquids. As for November, it was really chilly, so we had to buy leather and suede jackets. If you have a car, you can go up to Mt. Charleston and see the snow in November.
Try checking around for prices, there may be deals during those times. Try looking for Bellagio and Mandalay Bay.

We are going at the very end of November/early December...staying at Treasure Island for 69 +tax...will be watching for specials because I would prefer Paris or Venetian (have stayed at the Venetian before...excellent!). I am finding a BIG difference in price between Oct/Nov/Dec...if you would like to decrease your costs, skip October...go between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We had a very disappointing stay at Mandalay Bay. It is as the very far end of the strip, took FOREVER to walk to anything, and their dining options were outrageously expensive. Plus, their famous pool area was so crowded that we couldnt even find a chair to put our towels in. We tried even going down early in the morning.

Thankfully, we opted to stay half our trip there and half at the Paris - which was AWESOME!!!!! We paid $119 a night for Madalay Bay, and only $69 at Paris, and it was FAR superior. The location is awesome, dining options better plus closer to other places to eat, and its connected to several resorts. We LOVED it. We were honeymooning, and they treated us like we were the most important people in teh resort - even going so far as upgrading us to a HUGE suite overlooking the fountains at Bellagio =) Mandalay Bay did nothing for our honeymoon...

When we go again, we will stay in the middle area like at New York New York, Paris, Bellagio, MGM Grand, etc. THey were good locations close to lots of things =)

We had to go to LV last Oct for a wedding. It was filled and not low cost season. Peak convention month. We stayed off the strip (I could have stayed in Chicago, LOL) at the Orleans and it was nice. Very nice, large rooms, a very frequent free shuttle to and from the strip running all day and night. Get on Bally's email for sales, always something.

You are in for a real treat! There are so many amazing things to do here in Vegas, and a lot of the attractions are free!
Concerning rooms, we have stayed in most of the Strip hotels and my favorites are: The Luxor, New York New York, Caesars, The Aladdin and Treasure Island. Not only are the rooms nice, but I love the atmosphere of the hotels. Caesars and The Aladdin have shopping malls attatched, and Treasure Island is right next door to our BEST mall...Fashion Show Mall.

FREE Attractions not to miss:
Bellagio Light Show
Both statue shows in Caesar's Forum Shops
Mirage volcano
Fremont Experience (downtown Vegas)
Parade in the Sky at The Rio
M and M world (they have a 3-D show that is really cute)

There are several more I can't think of right now. November or early December is a great time to come. Your best bet is to keep checking online. More often than not you will find the best hotel deals on the casino's webpage. If you want more info, you can PM or email me at anytime.

We've only gone once and stayed at the Mirage. Beautiful hotel. I would stay at Paris if we went again. I loved the casino/restaurant area there - you feel like you are outdoors in Paris at night.

My DH liked Vegas, but it just wasn't my kind of place. I guess I'm just a Disney girl.

Treasure Island and Luxor are both pretty reasonable. Check out their webpages to see if they have special deals in the month that you're going. Sometimes, if you register with their website, they will send you special email coupons, etc. for rooms.

Now, if you could splurge a little more, might I recommend the Bellagio?

I would stay somewhere mid Strip. Bally's, Flamingo Hilton and the Mirage are a few suguestions.

We stayed at the Luxor last November (our first Vegas trip). It was nice...excellent deal for $69 (we originally booked at 99...but the prices kept falling...so keep an eye on them). They offered us a suite for and extra $30 at check in. Mandalay Bay is fabulous looking (owned by the same company as the Luxor). I found the casino staff at both hotels to be extremely friendly...especially to newbies. We played (and won) enough craps to make friends with everyone at the Luxor. There is a nice shopping complex between Luxor and Mandalay now...only a few stores were open last fall...but I can't wait to get back.

Luxor and Mandalay are on one end of the strip...so the walk can be a bit far. Taxis are plentiful and cheap though! We did walk to Bellagio one night for dinner...it's fabulous! Saw the Blue Man Group...it was OK.

We are thrwoing around the idea of a trip next summer(05) and Ive been looking into The Luxor, NY NY, and Aladdin. Glad to hear you liked all those.

Has anyone eaten at the Top Of The World in the Stratosphere? Any opinions on that?

I've stayed at Treasure Island (now TI and awful, the remodel was horrible!), Venetian, Bellagio, Mirage, Monte Carlo and Mandalay Bay. The Bellagio was by far the best place we stayed. If you decide on a hotel you're intereseted in, Paris also is nice, just keep checking that individual hotels website. They usually run room specials for Sunday - Thursday nights. Weekends can cost up to 2X's more than the weeknights. At any of these hotels, with the exception of Venetian and Bellagio, you'll have no problem finding one of them for under $150 per night. If that is truly what you want to spend, I'd recommend the Mirage, if you want to up it around $30 or so a night, you'd probably be able to get the Venetian or Bellagio. Those are truly awesome hotels!!!

Edited to add: The Aladdin has been sold and is going to become Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino. The changeover is expected to take place on January 1st, so I'd expect some changes to be occuring at the Aladdin during the fall and early winter. I'd stay away, since it's currently undergoing an ownership change, and from what I've read on other boards, not for the better.

Camcolt: I've eaten at the restaurant on top of the Stratosphere! It was our first trip and my then boyfriend, now husband won $9000 on one hand of cards on our last day. We wanted to splurge but there were no good show tickets available. So we had dinner at the Stratosphere. We were seated at the window and our reservations were just before sunset. It was so cool with the restaurant rotating and seeing the sun set. I ordered the lobster which was $65. Since you could get lobster for $4.95 anywhere else that was quite decadent! It wasnt the best lobster but it was good. I dont remember what my husband ordered but I think he liked it.

We have another trip to Vegas coming up in May. We're staying the first half of the trip at Treasure Island and the second half at Flamingo. We prefer the mid-strip location. We've also stayed at the old Aladdin which we loved, Mirage, and Harrahs. We've liked all of them. My SIL and BIL are coming with us - this is their first time. They dont gamble while we LOVE to gamble so it should be interesting.

Just a note if your dates are open and flexible... In November there is a convention in Vegas, Comdex, it is the largest technology convention and everything will be super crowded. I would try at all costs to avoid being there during the convention unless you have to be.

If this trip pans out it would be just DH & I without the kids and I was thinking of eating there on the night of our 10th anniversary. The menu I saw did seem a little more pricey than other Vegas restaurants but for a special occasion like that Im thiking it would be worth it. I have a stupid question though.... is every seat a window seat?

We've stayed at Paris twice and loved it! Both times we got the best rate by simply calling their 800 number. It was much cheaper than any of the travel websites. If they still have their Passport to Paris package, you get $89/night plus some dining coupons, tickets to go up in the eiffel tower and some spa discounts. It's a great deal.

camcolt, a far superior restaurant with a wonderful view is the restaurant at the top of the Eiffel Tower. It is very romantic, and the food is wonderful. The Stratosphere is in a very inconvenient location (at the far end of the strip) and even though I've never eaten there, the hotel itself is run down and dirty. When we were there the carpet was filthy and full of holes that were taped together with duct tape.

If you stay at Flamingo, make sure you insist on one of the recently remodeled rooms. My cousins stayed there a couple months ago and said they were assigned a room that should have been condemned. When they asked to be moved, they got a much nicer, recently renovated room.

If money is no object, go for Bellagio or Venetian. If you want a beautiful room in a beautiful hotel for a reasonable price in a GREAT location, I'd go for Paris.

Some other restaurants fit for a special occasion are Emeril's New Orleans Fish House at the MGM Grand, and Kokomo's at the Mirage. Both have excellent food and outstanding service. Both are on the expensive side though.

I have been only 3 times to Las Vegas and stayed at 3 different places. (I have stayed at many of the WDW hotels from the GF and AKL to the ASmusic).
The Venitian Hotel was great because of the large rooms with the step down livingrooms. The baths were large (too large) and everything was opulent. I really didn't care for the decore and the whole hotel felt a bit... cold but we had fun and had a good price on the room $149.
We got a room at the Paris Hotel shortly after it opened. The first couple of weeks of December are often super cheap in the middle of the week. We paid $29 a night for our room ther. It was an average size and nicely decorate (still not my style but less gaudy than the Venitian) and the bath was just the right size (bigger than a standard hotel) and nicely decorated.
Our Last trip I chose the New York New York and paid $110 for a deluxe room. This room was great as it was on a corner. It was large with a row of windows on two walls. It was decorated Art Deco style which was much better for me. I could see and slightly hear the roller coaster.
The service at all three hotels was good. Food choices were great at all three as well. We never used the pools though the one at NYNY was pretty plain.
We did find an all purpose restaurant that we like over at the MGM Grand called the Studio Cafe. It was beautifully decorated in Art deco and had a wide variety of food to choose from.
