Now that Obama has made his choice, all we need to hear is McCain's choice, which he will announce next Friday after the Democrats' convention has ended (and on his birthday, BTW).

Two questions: Who should he choose? And who will he choose?

I have to leave for work soon, so I'll come back and answer this myself later.

Tom Ridge or Joe Lieberman.

If he nominates Tom Ridge or Joe Lieberman, he's got a chance to earn my vote. If he nominates Romney or Pawlenty, then he's basically telling people who care about personal liberty to vote for Obama.

It would be inspired, but I just can't imagine him doing it.

McCain's trying to be all things to all people. If he chooses a Ridge, he POs the religious right and hardcore social conservative. If he chooses Romney, he risks alienating the middle. The guys certainly walking a tightrope, that's for sure.

I'm thinking, like Obama, he goes safe and taps a Pawlenty or Romney. Unless you do something to anger them, you can always count on your base to actually get out and vote. IMO, the middle is too fickle to be counted on.

Lieberman would cinch a McCain vote from me. Ridge, I'm not so sure about. However, Lieberman is NOT going to be picked. McCain likes him and their politics work on Iraq, but otherwise Lieberman will completely alienate the right (not even the far right).
Ridge is still a possibility because other that his pro-choice stance, he is very Republican.
If I had to put money on the choice, I'd go with Romney.

That is who he should not nominate. He may lose you but he will lose far more voters who feel quite differently, for reasons that have been hashed and rehashed.

So it'll come down to a very clear choices: Personal Liberty versus the Christian Jihad. :sad2:

He should chose Sarah Palin. Will win alot of the Hillary Support, and has more executive experience than BO

He will chose Romney.

He won't pick Lieberman. When all is said and done, with the exception of Iraq, Lieberman is basically still a Democrat. The chances of McCain tapping him as VP are about the same as they were when Joe Biden suggested that John Kerry consider choosing John McCain as his VP in 2004.

I think Pawlenty will be the pick.

I am hoping for Romney, but I will keep an open mind for any newcomer that pops up. I honestly don't think he will pick Lieberman. Someone threw out Kay Bailey Hutchinson as a possibility.

Unless he picks Hillary, he has my vote regardless of who he chooses.

That being said... I'm hoping for Romney.

I am a Dem and like Joe Lieberman. I hope he chooses Joe. ;) My bet says he'll choose Romney though.

I agree. His campaign has affirmed that he will pick a pro-life running mate. No to Ridge - no to Lieberman. Although many libs may say they would consider McCain with Lieberman as a running mate, I seriously doubt they would hit the McCain lever on election day. I do think that Lieberman may have a role in McCain's cabinet.

I also heard Hutchinson's name thrown out the other day. She is a good possibility. However, I'm going to stay with Romney.

I'm reading this morning that the pro-choice trial balloon McCain's campaign sent up for his VP slot wasn't about Lieberman, but rather Colin Powell, who apparently isn't going to be endorsing Obama. He's a bit too moderate for me, but that would be a smack-you-in-the-face game changer, and it would make Biden's "foreign relations experience" (30 years of sitting on committees) look rather lame.

It definitely has to be someone who can hold his own with Biden's sound and fury in a debate — so that would be Romney.

What is this Christian Jihad you speak of? They have declared a holy war on free people and nonbelievers everywhere, these Christians? They plan to kill or convert all who don't comply, these Christians? I've heard about another religious holy war — even seen evidence of it — but the Christian Jihad? I don't think the news has been covering this.

I really like Hutchinson, but I still want Romney as well. I can't wait till Friday to find out! (It is Friday, isn't it?? )

Nobody is happier than the Republicans at this point!!! :cool1: Now,Obama has to deal w/ a loose cannon in Joe Biden!! He will continue his crusade to BASH BUSH and MCCAIN and it will annoy just enough people to lose the election for OBAMA!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2: GREAT CHOICE!!!GO MCCAIN!!!
