VDH Opening

I'm just curious what the perfect VGC contract would be for you?

It worries me that they haven't officially announced the VGC refurb. I hope it's still going to be 2024. It definitely won't be done before our June 2024 trip but hopefully by our December 2025 one it will be finished!
You don’t want them to be doing a refurb during your June trip! Just ask the BWV thread.

I’m in a similar quandary. Our home resort is VGC and we had decided to forego adding on, then we went to Disney World in March and took a DVC tour 🤣. Now I really want to add on - the guide was strongly pitching VGF, which appeals to us. But Disneyland Tower is still looming.

Does everyone generally think Disneyland Tower will cost more than VGF? We nixed Riviera; even though we loved it, the resale restrictions give us pause.
You are aware that Disneyland Tower will most likely have resale restrictions

Something like 70 pts, in the $250 pp price range, loaded with pts, and bonus for April UY. So honestly something I don’t think I’m gonna get and that’s why I’ll just buy direct at VDH. I just want to buy the exact # of points I want in my use year and the VDH points will be less $ than VGC. I love GCH though. But I think we’ll be perfectly happy with VDH. We have WDW points already and I only want enough points for every other year at DLR. I already have three trips this year on WDW points and just don’t want more than we can reasonably afford to use with vacationing elsewhere as well.

I am feeling more and more confident about being able to actually buy points. Originally, I thought it would go so fast to current direct point owners. However, now I am thinking it might not be that hot. I am still very interested in VDH. We love the Disneyland Hotel. I don't hold out much hope of buying a reasonable VGC contract. Plus, it would be nice to finally have a direct contract. The other recent direct stuff hasn't been very appealing. We bought BWV in summer 2020 resale, so that we would have an excuse/reason to go to WDW after our son graduates high school next year. I don't mind the idea of having an "excuse" to go to Disneyland either :rotfl2: We tend to go to WDW. We are in Texas, so either one works well.

We are in Texas too which makes us perfectly located to visit either which I like. We used to live in Washington and getting to WDW was more of a trek. I agree the Disneyland hotel is lovely and I’m excited with how they’re going to be revamping that end of DTD.

I could be totally wrong about this, but I thought that the presales for current owners are extended to both direct and resale. But there’s so many things now that they’re extending only to “eligible” members so I could have that wrong.

Anyway, I do not think you’re going to have any problem buying points. I know there’s so much hype on these boards and some hyperbole about how fast VDH will sell out, but there’s going to be over 3 million points. Even shattering records (if that really happens) it will be on sale a while.

Sounds like a textbook case of someone who would be an ideal VDH candidate.

Presales for current owners don't differentiate between blue card or white card. At least not in the past so no reason to think they'll do that for VDH

They have surprised me before but I think there’s a lot of value for Disney in the idea that a resale owner gets a discount on becoming a direct owner. I don’t see that one ever going away.

I’d book right at 11m.

The good news is that because there are so few rooms the refurb will be done more quickly than larger properties.

With resale points?

I will definitely be on the computer exactly at the 11 month mark. I just keep forgetting what time (central) I need to do it. And I haven't looked at our calendar...I hope we aren't camping with no internet/service on that date!

Online booking opens at 8 AM Eastern time (7 AM Central). I usually set my alarm for 6:30 so I can have at least a few sips of strong coffee beforehand, and of course I log in before 7 and set up my search. (I can't tell you how far I go before 8:00 - it's been a few years since I was booking something very competitive at 11 months!)

I would rather be moved to a hotel room in the GC instead. Especially since this will be our first actual DVC trip. But not sure if they'd ever do that.
Good points. GCH is big enough to absorb what small inventory there is on the dvc side. I hope to be put up in one of those El Capitan suites! 😁

Thanks. I hope it's easy to figure out and navigate since this will be my first booking. Though I'm guessing I can play around and search for fun once my account is set up.
