This may be old news, but I received a letter from DVC today letting me know that there will be reconstruction on the Inn building roof going on during our stay (in 10 days!!!). They mention that we will notice:

- noise related to roof replacement in common areas and inside the building
- construction vehicles
- scaffolding around the Inn Building

They anticipate that the project will be complete in late summer (weather permitting).

Sounds like a pretty big project. This kind of thing doesn't usually bother us, but I thought I would give everyone a heads up. I'll take pictures if I see anything interesting

Thanx for the heads up, Katie. We will be there the beginning of May, and I was wondering how the repairs were coming along.

I hope you enjoy Vero! :drinking:

Hmmm,

The roof looks good but maybe there are some repairs needed that I can't see.

IMO, it's not a big deal. We were there on the day they reopened after each hurricane and they had heavy machinery in the lobby and outside. It didn't change how much we enjoyed our stay at all.

I'm curious about what they are doing. They replaced a lot of shingles on the roof and made a lot of repairs to the ceiling inside. I wonder if they are going to mess all that up again.

They were working on a new boardwalk a few weeks ago and it looked like they were coming along at a pretty good pace.

We'll be over there on Sunday for brunch. I'll see what I can find out.

Have a great trip!!!

And good for DVC!

I had the great pleasure of staying at Many Glacier Hotel in Glacier National Park last year, and they sent us a similar letter. It was good to know, but it was absolutely no problem for us.

On the other hand, we recently stayed in a resort in the Florida Keys (which will remain nameless). It was "prime time," right at the height of the tourist season, but a relative was in town from the Frozen Northland, so we went. Paid $100 per night more than the place would be worth on its best day, but so be it.

Well, guess what? The place was under "renovation." First, we got shown to our room (no internal hallways - breezeway access) and the painters promptly began painting us into our room! We had a whole raft of additional annoyances which I won't bore you with. Our relative had similar issues, but had to deal with them longer because he was staying for a week!

Long story short, we told the manager we didn't think it was cool to blindside people like that...using our previous experience at Glacier NP as an example. "Don't mind the renovation, dude -- just don't blindside us, and don't charge us the national budget of france for a room when you're rebuilding the darn place!"

We were very nice about it, and so were they, and we ended up staying for nothing.

But, Good on 'ya, DVC, for being upfront with visitors. Makes us all look wise.

Do you think this will still be going on in mid July? What do they mean late summer?

I consider mid July to be "mid summer". I'd consider late summer to be late August or early September.

I just returned from Vero on Monday. When I was leaving they were starting to put up scaffolding on the left side of the inn (facing it from the ocean). I heard someone talking about doing it in 3 stages, left, center then right. The scaffolding is being hidden by large plywood sheets, which will also block the view from Shutters. The roof looked good, no obvious missing roofing. There were replacement shingles on the roof which blended ok but still stood out.

Floridafam - when you are there Sunday, could you please see what scoop you can find out on how long the ocean view inn rooms will be shut down? Another poster was already notifed that they have been booted for the week of April 17th -
We are hoping so very much that those rooms are back in business for the beginning of May (we don't care about noise during the day...just want our balcony!)

Thanks so much!!

pasta37,

Actually, we were there last Sunday and there wasn't any work being done yet.

Sorry. :sunny:

Since we are staying there for a nice relaxing get away in May I thought I would give Vero a call. The CM I talked to indiated that they are doing the roof in 'zones' (which I understood as phases). The rooms in that zone will not be filled. So any assigned Inn rooms would not have scaffolding in front of them. I tried to ask if they would have to move any of the Inn room reservations but I'm not sure if my question was fully understood.

Hope this helps. I would guess work will be going on when you are there. The recent DVC email I received today 4/8/05 states that roof repairs will be going on through early November. I'm sure they will be finished before then but probably not by July. Mid to late September would be more realistic barring anymore storms.
