VAustralia Baggage Allowance

Hi All,

We flew with VAustralia from Adelaide to Los Angeles via Sydney in 2009. From Adelaide, they were able to send our luggage straight through to LA, but on the way back we had to collect it from Sydney and check it in again for our flight to Adelaide. When we went to check in at Sydney they said we would have to pay for excess baggage despite having booked our international flight from Adelaide. Now that domestic flights don't have any baggage allowance are we going to be facing this issue again? It would be very expensive. Has anyone had this experience or has it been okay? TIA!

I think you spoke to the wrong person. I've never had to pay for more luggage on the 2nd leg of an international flight Was it booked all part of the 1 flight? Or did you book Syd to Adelaide separately?

It was all booked in one flight from Adelaide to LA. I made the point to the check-in person that it was all part of one international flight, but they didn't seem to think it mattered. Thanks for responding and letting me know your experiences.

They're wrong. You don't have to double pay. This only happens when it's two entirely separate flight bookings, which this isn't

Thanks everyone for confirming what I thought was correct. At the time we didn't have time to argue as our connecting flight was leaving in 30 minutes, but will know this for next time!
