Vanessa- figmentfan814 ~ Happily Ever Wedding & 10th Anniversary VR Brunch #1 Added 8-10

Just a short update...

I called back the lady who had been working with me from guest relations at POR to see what the update was on the bag. She still wasn’t sure at this point, but she had been trying to locate someone in Orlando who had the same favors in stock. Unfortunately, she wasn’t having any luck. She had talked the manager at Ghirardelli into doing a rush order of chocolate favors for us that afternoon. I was pretty impressed by this considering it was already 1 p.m. She told me she was supposed to be hearing back about the bag soon and would call me with an update.

When we left FRESH, Kris took the rental car to drop off his mom and some of the bridal party that didn’t plan to head to the parks. I took off with my parents to head to MGM. We rode the boat over from the hotel, I love that ride it’s so relaxing. It was funny to be walking around with a bride shirt and my bride ears without my groom :bride:

When we arrived there were things set up for ESPN weekend which was wrapping up that day.

After we got through the gate, I got a call from the person in Guest Relations at POR letting me know that Kris’ missing bag was on its way over. I was so excited; hopefully the favors would be in there. She asked if she had permission to open the bag and I said of course!

When she opened it up, she found the glow necklaces for our dessert party, the University of Michigan pom-poms for our entrance at the reception, some of our gifts for a few family members and guess what NO FAVORS! I couldn’t believe it. With all the rushing leading up to the wedding they must have been moved when we were packing and shipping stuff. They were even checked off our list, so we assumed they were in the missing luggage. We think what happened is that they got moved when we were packing so our dog wouldn’t get into the chocolate.

The person from the hotel said that she still felt bad for all the inconvenience and that she was still willing to help us make sure that we got favors for the next day. If we were going to get them done we needed to meet the manager at Ghirardelli in 30 minutes. I told her that I was at MGM and had no way to get to Downtown Disney in that time frame. She told me not to worry that she would drive over to get me right away and told me to meet her near the buses in the taxi area.

I told my parents what was going on and started heading towards the front of the park. We started talking about it and I really started having doubts about spending the extra money on new favors at this point. My mom and I remembered something that we heard from David Tutera of all people on a wedding show. “If you’re getting a favor just to get a favor, what’s the point?”

While a favor box from Ghirardelli is delicious it wouldn’t have the same significance as the personalized favors that we had ordered. Here are the favors that never made it to Florida… we have passed them out to our guests since we got back. I even mailed them to our out of state guests.

They each had 4 Ghirardelli squares inside. I bought them for 75% off after Valentine’s Day.

I called Kris and asked what he thought and we came to the decision that with all the other touches for the weddings our guests probably wouldn’t miss the favors. My dad and I walked out to meet the wonderful lady from guest relations to let her know our decision. When I found her in the parking lot, I thanked her for all her help and told her that with everything that had gone in this weekend we weren’t going to worry about the favors and were just going to get them to everyone after the wedding. She agreed and said that she thought we had made a sensible decision. I thanked her profusely for all her help. She had definitely gone above and beyond. Yet another example of the exceptional Disney customer service. She then headed off and my dad and I returned to the park.

A few minutes later she called me back and said that since she wasn’t able to help with the favors she still wanted to do something to make our honeymoon special after we had to deal with the missing luggage. She told me that she would be taking $100 off our room later that week when we returned from the Grand Floridian after our wedding. I was really thankful for all her help. I really wish that I would have taken down her name because she was such a great help tracking down our luggage that weekend. I also couldn’t believe that she was willing to get me favors for the wedding no matter what the time constraints.

Right after that I spotted Kris and his groomsmen Sean heading through the gate, Kris had just exchanged his annual pass voucher at the gate. We had always ran into some relatives at that point, so the three of us headed towards the ESPN stuff and agreed to meet up with everyone for our dinner reservation in a few hours at 50s Primetime :goodvibes

Still more to come that afternoon...

What a sweet woman!!!! those favors are adorable!!!!!!

Boy, that is a nice story! Bummer about the favors, but nice to know how far some people are willing to go to help!

How sweet of her to go to all that effort to help you out! Things like that are so much of the Disney Magic! :goodvibes

PS - I used to live near Flint, in Holly. Yay for Michigan weather getting better! :thumbsup2

Vanessa -- I really think that Disney CMs are exceptional, but I also believe that people get what they give, and knowing what a sweetheart you are, I am sure you were a pleasure to deal with. I am not surprised that she wanted to help you and make your stay special.

Awww!!! Even though it didn't work out the way you planned, I'm so glad everything had a happy ending. :goodvibes

That CM was really great to you! She definately went above and beyond. Can't wait to hear more!

Thanks, Lynn! We went back and forth a lot on what to get. We were originally getting chocolate dipped Mickey pretzels with candy pieces from the Candy Cauldron at the Westside in Downtown Disney. I guess we wouldn’t have forgotten those favors! ;)

What a small world. We’re actually in the process of moving into our condo near Grand Blanc :)

That is so sweet, thank you so much   I tried my best not to go into bridezilla mode ;) With all the things that we had been through, I figured that this was not worth getting worked up about.

Hi Anna Marie, I’ve been away from the computer for the last couple of days working out of town, but I have been carrying my Hawaii tourbooks with me (that I checked out from the library) I will definitely be PMing you soon. We’re really thinking about doing the road to Hana, I just can’t decide if we want to take one of those tours or get a rental car that day :upsidedow

Let me know if you need any help with uploading pictures.

I totally understand the busy thing...my new job keeps me going. They called my Tuesday at 2pm and told me I had a training the next day at 8:30am. No problem right? Except for the fact that the training was 4 hours away from me in Chicago!:scared1: Gotta love work!:rotfl: N-e-ways, renting a car would be much more worth it. There is a lot to see and if you take a tour bus you have to stay on their time. It would be much more romantic to take a convertible or even a compact car and get to do what you want when you want without being rushed. Plus, the tour doesn't stop for the Hawaiian people that sell their hand made jewerly and goods on the side of the road on blankets. Defenitely worth the stop. If you are worried about missing some of the tour info. just pick up a Road to Hana tour CD in any gift shop in town. It tells you anything you need to know. I'll be PMing you just now about uploading my pics. PM me if you have any more Hawaii questions:)

Vanessa - those favors are great. Where did you find those tins? So cute. I can't wait to see more pictures. The CM was great, she definately went about and beyong.

Also a little hijack on your TR - dizneyfreak I noticed your ticker says you have been married for six months but the date above that ticker says your wedding didn't happen yet. I'm confused.

Laura

I love lov elove all of it! But of course I have questions ( I read through and probably missed things because I tend to do that...

How did you get all of the favors there? Did you put them in luggages and bring them over?
What about your dress? Also with the favors, did someone from disney come to pick them up for the wedding or did you have to bring them?

SOrry for the questions but you look so organized and I have to stop being such a worry wart! lol

Whoops! I just edited it a few days ago and put the wrong year. Thanks for telling me, cause I didn't even notice;) We were married in 2007. Thanks again!

Aw, that's really cool! I love the Damon's in Grand Blanc! That was my mom and I's hang out!

That's like 5 minutes from our place :thumbsup2 Grand Rapids is such a great place to live too. I go over there several times a year for conferences and love the downtown and the Meijer Gardens.

I hope your training went well this week, the drive to Chicago is pretty boring that's a big stretch of nothing. My dad does a lot of work for his business in Illinois, so I've driven down from Chicago to Springfield and to Champaign/Urbana.

Kris is up this weekend and we're going to be making some finalized plans, so I'm sure I will think of more ideas/questions. Thanks for the offer to give advice, I'm sure we'll need it :cheer2:

Hi Laura, I found out about them through an email from Get Married. This is the site that I used to order them, but there are a lot of places that have them. This site was pretty reasonable on the labels that go on them.

Not a problem at all, I'm more than happy to answer all your questions :goodvibes

I shipped my dress ahead of time to Carolyn Allen's and then they delivered it to my room all steamed. I was charged an extra $15 for them to store it, but it was totally worth not having to stress over bringing it on a plane with me. :thumbsup2

We brought a lot of stuff in our extra luggage, but we also shipped like 7 boxes full of stuff down in advance. We shipped some stuff to Disney Floral (our sand ceremony set, knife set) and some things right to our hotel room (things for the Welcome Bags, snowglobes for our centerpieces.)

We took stuff over to Franck's on Friday (before our Monday wedding) and our coordinator made sure that everything made it to our locationo n the wedding day.

Okay, I'm going to see if I can finish up our time at MGM that afternoon. Once Sean, Kris, and I headed towards the ESPN setup by Rock'n Rollercoast the guys decided to ride Rock'n Rollercoaster.

This is one of my favorites, but I was still superstuffed from lunch and feeling a little nauseated, maybe it was wedding nerves;) so I opted out. I went and walked around the ESPN stuff a little and sat down to relax for a few minutes. It was the first time I had been alone in 3 days and it felt great!!

There was a pretty short line and the guys were out in about 35 minutes. We then went into the ESPN area and they tried their hand at some of the setups.

After about 30 minutes Sean got a call from his wife, she needed a break from the kids (ages 4, 2, and 5 months) so he headed out of the park.

We still had some time until our dinner reservation at 50s Primetime Cafe with our family, so we went to check out some more of the ESPN stuff.

Here they are taping "Baseball Tonight" in front of the Sorcerer's hat :wizard:

We then went to see the quiz show, "Stump the Schwab." I'm not an ESPN fan, but I love to do anything new and different. There were a ton of ESPN personalities, so it was a cool experience. It was in the area for the Drew Carrey sound stage.

We got out with 10 minutes to spare for dinner and walked on over.
Setting up group reservations at restaurants throughout the week was one of the best things that we did. We just included information on the restaurants with the average costs of meals and allowed people to reserve a spot by contacting me. All of our friends bailed on us for this dinner, but we had a ton of family show up :goodvibes

I don't know how many of you have been to this restaurant before, but it is a lot of fun. Our waitress gave us homework assignments dealing with geography and we had to clean our plates :rotfl:

Kris and I ended up just splitting a meal because we weren't super hungry yet. We then slipped out a little early since we had to meet the pastor back at our resort at 8:30 pm.

We made it back to the hotel just in time and headed to the food court to meet our pastor. I know I mentioned it in my PJ, but our minister was from Jacksonville. He was actually our pastor in Michigan for almost 5 years before he moved to Florida. We got in touch with him about coming to Disney for the wedding and he agreed :yay: It was so nice to have someone that we knew and felt comfortable for our big day. We met and talked to his wife for about 30 minutes. We went back over some of the different worksheets we had filled out for our pre-marital counseling and prayed together. It was nice to share that time with them and we both felt a lot more relaxed once we left the meeting.

On our way out of the food court we ran into a bunch of our guests who were snacking. My one aunt wanted to know where the leftover groom's cake was, so I sent them towards my parents’ rooms with forks ;)

Kris and I decided it was definitely time to get a little more practicing in, so we grabbed our CD out of my room and went into the parking lot. We rolled down the windows and played the music. We got some strange looks from people walking from the bus stop, but we didn't care  I wish we would have had someone take our picture.

Gotta run, Kris just got home and I have to show him the wedding pictures. Randy sent our CDs early because I needed some things to print for our at-home reception. They are supposed to be online by Monday. I loved each and every one of them; it was so beautiful on the World Showcase.
