Just a short update...
I called back the lady who had been working with me from guest relations at POR to see what the update was on the bag. She still wasn’t sure at this point, but she had been trying to locate someone in Orlando who had the same favors in stock. Unfortunately, she wasn’t having any luck. She had talked the manager at Ghirardelli into doing a rush order of chocolate favors for us that afternoon. I was pretty impressed by this considering it was already 1 p.m. She told me she was supposed to be hearing back about the bag soon and would call me with an update.
When we left FRESH, Kris took the rental car to drop off his mom and some of the bridal party that didn’t plan to head to the parks. I took off with my parents to head to MGM. We rode the boat over from the hotel, I love that ride it’s so relaxing. It was funny to be walking around with a bride shirt and my bride ears without my groom
When we arrived there were things set up for ESPN weekend which was wrapping up that day.
After we got through the gate, I got a call from the person in Guest Relations at POR letting me know that Kris’ missing bag was on its way over. I was so excited; hopefully the favors would be in there. She asked if she had permission to open the bag and I said of course!
When she opened it up, she found the glow necklaces for our dessert party, the University of Michigan pom-poms for our entrance at the reception, some of our gifts for a few family members and guess what NO FAVORS! I couldn’t believe it. With all the rushing leading up to the wedding they must have been moved when we were packing and shipping stuff. They were even checked off our list, so we assumed they were in the missing luggage. We think what happened is that they got moved when we were packing so our dog wouldn’t get into the chocolate.
The person from the hotel said that she still felt bad for all the inconvenience and that she was still willing to help us make sure that we got favors for the next day. If we were going to get them done we needed to meet the manager at Ghirardelli in 30 minutes. I told her that I was at MGM and had no way to get to Downtown Disney in that time frame. She told me not to worry that she would drive over to get me right away and told me to meet her near the buses in the taxi area.
I told my parents what was going on and started heading towards the front of the park. We started talking about it and I really started having doubts about spending the extra money on new favors at this point. My mom and I remembered something that we heard from David Tutera of all people on a wedding show. “If you’re getting a favor just to get a favor, what’s the point?”
While a favor box from Ghirardelli is delicious it wouldn’t have the same significance as the personalized favors that we had ordered. Here are the favors that never made it to Florida… we have passed them out to our guests since we got back. I even mailed them to our out of state guests.
They each had 4 Ghirardelli squares inside. I bought them for 75% off after Valentine’s Day.
I called Kris and asked what he thought and we came to the decision that with all the other touches for the weddings our guests probably wouldn’t miss the favors. My dad and I walked out to meet the wonderful lady from guest relations to let her know our decision. When I found her in the parking lot, I thanked her for all her help and told her that with everything that had gone in this weekend we weren’t going to worry about the favors and were just going to get them to everyone after the wedding. She agreed and said that she thought we had made a sensible decision. I thanked her profusely for all her help. She had definitely gone above and beyond. Yet another example of the exceptional Disney customer service. She then headed off and my dad and I returned to the park.
A few minutes later she called me back and said that since she wasn’t able to help with the favors she still wanted to do something to make our honeymoon special after we had to deal with the missing luggage. She told me that she would be taking $100 off our room later that week when we returned from the Grand Floridian after our wedding. I was really thankful for all her help. I really wish that I would have taken down her name because she was such a great help tracking down our luggage that weekend. I also couldn’t believe that she was willing to get me favors for the wedding no matter what the time constraints.
Right after that I spotted Kris and his groomsmen Sean heading through the gate, Kris had just exchanged his annual pass voucher at the gate. We had always ran into some relatives at that point, so the three of us headed towards the ESPN stuff and agreed to meet up with everyone for our dinner reservation in a few hours at 50s Primetime
Still more to come that afternoon...
