Vanessa- figmentfan814 ~ Happily Ever Wedding & 10th Anniversary VR Brunch #1 Added 8-10

Oh my, I can't believe you MIL couldn't just accept graciously. I hope she was better for the rest of the wedding!

Looking forward to more!

Awww, the photo of your Mom shedding a few tears gave me goosebumps! I have so many nice photos of my Mum and Auntie wiping a few tears away... especially when we gave them their gifts at dinner the night before the wedding!

What IS it with MIL's!?!? Don't even get me started on their ability to be incredibly rude and extremely ungrateful?! They must suddenly forget their manners once their son is getting married! I known mine has upset me greatly and i'm having great difficulty even being civil to her right now... but thats a story for my TR rather than yours!

You will LOVE Hawaii. We never got as far as Maui... We just stayed on Oahu both times we were there and absolutely loved it. I hired a car and drove around the Island and walked along some of the most stunning beaches I have ever seen in my life! It was such a chill out vacation for us...

... Plus Waikiki has an AMAZING Cheesecake Factory *drools* :cloud9:

I am definitely glad to know that I'm not the only one with MIL drama. Although, one thing that I can say is that despite her complaints over Disney she took me aside at our dessert party and told me that the wedding was beautiful. Coming from a lady that hated the fact the wedding was going to be in Florida, I felt like that was a huge compliment :thumbsup2

I will have to try to check out the Cheesecake Factory in Waikiki. I haven't been to one of those in years and the last one I went to was in Orlando :rotfl:

It was really touching to see how much my parents appreciated their gifts.

Vanessa, I am really enjoying your report and all your pictures. It looks like everyone had a great time at the tea and the pirate and princess party. Eagerly, waiting to hear about the wedding!

The food at Fresh looks so good and the groom's cake looks delicious! I was considering going to Cape May for a rehearsal meal either breakfast or dinner but now I am considering Fresh!

Wow! Your mother in law refused the park pass in front of everyone! She could have accepted it graciously and given it away afterwards. I hoped she "behaved" for the rest of the trip!

(As far as I know all Canadians call it pop but In Bermuda, they call it soda.

FRESH was great and they were really easy to work with for everything. I have the contact information if you need it. They are only open for breakfast and lunch, so it really depends on the timing of your rehearsal. Everyone raved about the food. I've heard the breakfast is great too.

Maybe that's why Michiganders go with the word "pop" heck we even accept Canadian change at all our stores and banks!

I have just loved following your trip report! I've recently been bitten by the Disney bug and found these boards, and I couldn't resist coming over and reading about all the beautiful Disney weddings. Now I'm hooked! popcorn::

Looking forward to your next installment!

Here in Washington State we say "POP". I always thought that west coast ppl call it pop--- east coast ppl call it soda. Sort of like Helman's Mayo in the east and Best Food's mayo on the west. Both made by same company -- go figure. Waiting on the next installment.

OHMG. Maybe get your mother-in-law a book on manners. Good luck with her in future.

Oh, and for the record... I'm in England and everything here is POP.... except Coke and pepsi... which is... urm.... coke and pepsi! :lmao: We actually call it 'fizzy pop' although I have no idea why as we wouldn't call a glass of orange 'unfizzy pop'

I was so excited to see another installment today!! I'm loving your TR. The food at Fresh looks awesome. I'm going to have to try that sometime. I'm sorry about the MIL drama....they can be weird sometimes :confused3

I'm really looking forward to reading about your big day! :goodvibes

Lovin' your detailed report, Vanessa! You have so many special touches. :goodvibes May I ask where you found the Mickey head wrapping paper?

To add to the soda/pop thing.... DH is from Chicago and they call it pop. St. Louis - we call it soda. In parts of southern MO and while living in TN, they call it coke. It doesn't matter if you want a sprite or orange or Dr. Pepper; that's just the flavor of your coke! :rotfl:

Here in Illinois we call it soda or sodie. Your rehearsal dinner looked great! I loved all the Pirate stuff. (I am a huge, no, I mean HUGE HUGE HUGE POTC fan!) Your goodie bags looked almost exactly like the ones I made for everyone that attended the Not So Scary Halloween Party with us the night before the wedding.
Also, I have been to Maui and I have a must do for you and your honey. There is the road called the Road to Hana. It is sooooooo long and windy and has a great number of one lane bridges, but is soooooo worth it. It is free and follows a winding two lane road along the beach. There are many stops along the way, most of them being national parks with waterfalls and such. You can visit the black sand beach and at the end of the long journey you find the 7 sacred pools...a bunch of pools that spill into each other off of cliffs and then empty into the ocean. You can even swim in these pools. The journey is so beautiful and you can take it at your own pace. Just make sure to pack a lunch and take your time. Oh, yea and one more tip. Get a Road to Hana self guided tour CD at one of the local shops before you leave. It really makes the journey even more fun. OK, and one more tip, make sure to stop at the little road side stand that is half way to Hana and get a shaved ice...so good...and stop at any local road side stands. They always sell very nice things that are hand made for cheap. They just put a blanket down on the side of the road and sell their stuff. It's a must do girl. If you have time I also suggest eating at Bubba Gumps along the beach at Lahina and shopping all the little stores alongside. And the Old Lahina Luau is not to be missed. Ok, so PM me if you want more tips. I think I have hijacked your thread enough here:rotfl:

Hey Vanessa,

Finally got caught back up with your TR. I'm loving it and I can't wait for the wedding installment(s)!

Oh - and here in Boston we call it soda, too.

Lol!!! :rotfl: I meant as long as you don't have to swim to get there! It must have been a little late last night when I posted! :rotfl2:

If there is anywhere I will swim in the water, it is there. So warm and silky! But away from the tourist attractions... Pokai Bay was our absolute favorite spot on Oahu. It all depends on what island you are going to...

Can't wait to read on, I love your pirate theme!

Thanks for keeping up on my report, I know it has to be so hectic for you as you get even closer to your wedding next week!

Those bags from Target were such a great deal, weren't they!

Thanks for the tips on Maui. We have been debated about Hana because we're only on that island for 2 days, but I've heard so many great things about it so I'm thinking we'll probably end up doing it after all. Black sand beaches are so cool... I went to one in Jamaica (my one bridesmaid is from there and she took us to a lot of non-tourist areas on the island) we went to a place called Alligator Pond that had black sand. I don't think Kris has seen anything like that in person though.

I'm trying to put together our itinerary for Hawaii, so I will probably be PMing you in the next couple of days. Thanks!

It looks like I really starting a pretty intense debate about pop; it’s so interesting to hear how people refer to the same things in different regions of the country/world. It puts me back into college mode (I was a communication major!) :goodvibes

That is too funny about the swimming part, I was kind of curious what you meant. We are going to Oahu and Maui, so I will have to try to check out Pokai Bay. :thumbsup2

I'm meeting my DH husband in Toledo, OH this weekend, so just wanted to let everyone know that I'll be MIA for the next two days. Toledo is halfway between where he's living right now (only 14 days and counting until he moves up here :cool1: ) Anyway, I bought baseball tickets for one of his favorite teams and we're meeting up down there for the weekend. I definitely want to get to the wedding soon, hopefully by the beginning of next week :)

How true! Actually, I lived in Indiana for a while and they called it soda too and Kris is in Ohio where they also call it soda. Maybe it's just a Michigan thing

This indiana girl calls is Pop!

Great TR so far. I can't believe your MIL!! What was everyone else's reaction when she refused her gift! OMGoodness How rude! :scared1:

Jennifer

Vanessa -- Your luncheon looks fabulous! It is so nice to see you surrounded by people who love and appreciate all that you did for them. I think MILs are just supposed to be difficult. I am lucky in that mine is better than most. I am so glad you and Kris are together this weekend. Howard and I spent most of our first 5 months of married life apart and missed each other desperately. Enjoy your time together!
