(Scroll down to the bottom of the blue box to see the blurb.)

Installation begins at ASMo on Monday.

I have no idea what a "beverage cooler" is but you can bet that it is not the same thing as a refrigerator. If it's the same thing as what they have on the cruise ships, it isn't very big and doesn't get as cold as a refrigerator. I wonder how much floor space that this will take up, if any, and whether guests who want a refrigerator will be able to get one if they want?

ETA: I found this picture of a "beverage cooler" on the Disney Magic.

Allears.net posted the following information on their Facebook page this morning (3/5/12):
WDW is installing refrigerators in all Value Resorts (no charge to guest) and will be completed by the end of April. Sounds like POP will be finished in the next week or so.
So there appears to be conflicting stories, right down to which resort will get the new appliance, the date it will be installed and the type of appliance that will be put into use. I guess that we will not really know what will be in the rooms until people return from the value resorts and begin reporting.

I guess they were tired of holding and losing all those fridge swap fridges..
(which I loved)

it looks like a wine cooler

Well that's a good thing! I usually always have leftovers from the DDP and hate just leaving them so now I can actually bring them back to the hotel. I can have it for breakfast the next day :) (I'm not a fan of breakfast so leftovers is perfect!)

From what I understand, those beverage coolers don't get very cold and aren't recommended for food storage. One night may not be a big deal, but I hope people don't plan to use it for storing food for several nights.

Def looks like a wine cooler.

Those types of bev coolers only go down to about 50º unlike a fridge that is usually abou 34-36º.

I wouldn't put anything in there that couldn't stand to not be re-fridgerated, like milk, eggs, etc

I like it but I don't

If they are going to put in bev coolers, why not just put in mini fridges ?

I think they'll end up with a lot of calls complaining that the fridge isn't cold and will be endlessly explaining it's a bev cooler, not a fridge.

I agree. Seems like they are trying to keep the "amenities" less than the moderates (understandable) but in the end, people will still want a full fridge so they won't be putting an end to the fridge swaps, and as you said, they will get calls wondering about the coldness.

I would think they would have done better to install one of those tiny medicine fridges in each room. Smaller than mods, but still enough room for a few things (leftovers) to be cold.

Essentially, it's an empty minibar. Don't try to keep dairy in it, it won't stay cold enough to retard spoilage.

If they are like the ones on the ships, put in a cup of ice, and they will stay cold. cold enough to keep cheese. However, you do have to keep changing the ice.

Whatever they put in better keep milk cold. With all these young kids having milk in the morning is great since the food places don't open up early enough.

They should have just put in mini-fridges. They could have went with the really small size in the values and dorm size in the mods.

yep..and even charging as little as a $1 more per night would cover it and all are happy.

The only reason we really need a refrigerator is for milk. This is disappointing.

Not everybody wants a refrigerator in their value room. Some people would rather see the amenities kept to a minimum so that the nightly rate is lower.

Right now, Disney charges $10 per night for a fridge and there are quite a few people who are not willing to pay it. I don't think that those who don't care whether they have a fridge would be willing to see their rates go up so that everyone can have one.

The "beverage cooler" is a poor substitute for a fridge, as anyone who sailed on the Magic or Wonder years ago can tell you. I'm not sure why Disney would install them in the values unless they are considerably cheaper to run and service. I think they may be opening themselves up for a lot of complaints about the temperature they run at. People who expect a refrigerator-like device are going to be very upset when their milk goes bad or their chicken salad sandwich makes them sick.

I agree, that is why I posted $1 a night increase, not $10. Even at as little as a dollar I think it would cover costs and ultimately attract more people to stay, threfor making even more $. If there is a fridge in the room, people are going to use it.

ArielRae, Who created your cute family pic on your signature? Super cute.

I'm actually looking forward to this.

I just need something to keep a small orange juice, a few diet cokes and a few waters cold.

Even if we travel as a family, we just need something to keep the drinks and the fruit cups cold.

We stayed at Pop last Sept. in one room and my friend stayed at Pop the week before us in 2 rooms. All 3 of the rooms had fridges at no extra cost. We thought maybe they were gradually adding them to all the rooms.:confused3
