Value Resorts to get "Beverage Coolers" - update 3/5/12

Maybe they are the originals from the Magic and the Wonder.........can't see Disney letting anything go to waste in this economic climate. Probably had 'em all in a warehouse somewhere and just remembered!!!! We'll easily be able to tell if they've got the same nautical rope design around the glass!

The only reason we really need a refrigerator is for milk. This is disappointing.

We like to keep milk, too, but I also want my water and pepsi colder than 50º. :headache: A beverage cooler is a ridiculous waste of space if you ask me.

I would think that the amount of ice used at the values would be diminished considerably (for coolers, filling up the sink for cold water bottles, etc.) and that alone might help pay for the cost of the fridges. I'd go for a $1 or $2 or $3 cost increase to help pay for a fridge in my room.

We stayed at Pop last Sept. in one room and my friend stayed at Pop the week before us in 2 rooms. All 3 of the rooms had fridges at no extra cost. We thought maybe they were gradually adding them to all the rooms.:confused3

Strange, I was at Pop last Sept as well and we didn't have a fridge in our room. Did you stay in a preferred room? Maybe they hadn't gotten to our room yet?

I agree with you. It's a complete waste of electricity on Disney's part, when you can't even put any food in there. :sad2:

Well, you can put food in there...but it won't be safe to eat.

I agree that it's a waste of space and money. I have stayed at hotels that have these and they are not very useful. Not cold enough for anything - I don't think it even keeps soda cold enough.

I'm fine with the beverage cooler... i remember last trip to disney whenever we got a meal at resort we'd just fill up mugs with drink then get a powerade as the meal drink (included).. we'd take back to room where they would just sit there on table (warm) now at least they will be 50 degrees.. ha ha

I was at Pop last Sept. for about 4 hrs and there wasn't a fridge in the room we were in.

Even if Disney decided to put fridges in the rooms, I'd still want the fridge from the fridge swap. I love taking frozen water/powerade to the parks. That was one of the big disapointments about the room at the BC, it had a fridge but no freezer.

Just got off the phone with a CM who said the only difference between a "beverage cooler" and a regular refrigerator is that there is no freezer. She said the cooler will be comparable in size and temperature as a standard fridge, and there is no need to put in a request for a refrigerator if one is necessary for medication.

I'll be staying at Pop at the end of April. We're planning on bringing snacks and drinks and I thought I had no option but to rent a fridge. Suppose we'll be a test run.

I hope that someone reports back as we are in a fridge swap for May and September.

If there's now no room for the fridge but the beverage cooler doesn't keep things cold enough, not really sure what to do.

I would just pack some extra ziplock bags...you can fill them w/ice and put them in the beverage cooler to up the temp a bit if you don't decide to rent a fridge..have a great trip,( we love POP) and please post how the beverage cooler worked out for you:goodvibes:thumbsup2

Take some quart or gallon size ziplock bags, fill them w/ice part way and put them along side your milk or whatever you need to keep the coldest in the beverage cooler. Should work out ok for you. I know there is not a lot of room in them, but you can squish the ice bags around the items most important. You get to go 2x's! Lucky!!

Fridges are already installed at Movies, and the install at Pop began this week. I can't wait for people to report back what these mini-fridges look like.

Just saw this posted over on the resorts board and I thought that some of you would like to know:
If you ever rented a fridge from a value before, that little cube fridge, then that's it. They're just getting more. Apparently it is cheaper to install fridges in all the rooms than it costs for manpower to bring one up, take one back each time, plus, injuries, workman's comp, plus all of the value fridges taking up the luggage rooms. CM friend saw them yesterday and confirmed they're the same size ones as if you rented them from the front desk.

Interesting! We are going in about 2 weeks, staying at Movies, and I didn't think the fridges would be in until April. Anyone have a picture, or description of these fridges? I've never rented one, so haven't seen them before.

Thanks!

They're the exact same ones that you could rent for $10. They're a smallish white cube. Perfect for milk, OJ, yogurt and a few more. CM friend saw them and said they're the exact same as the ones you could rent before. I heard install at Pop is going on right now.

I can confirm there is a fridge in my room right now. There was a little slip in it that said it was installed today and to give it 24 hours to reach full temperature. I checked in this morning but didn't come straight to room until about 3:30 pm. I don't know how to post a pic from my IPad or I would post one.

And I'm using the free wifi to post this!! :cool1::banana:
