We'll be checking out of SSR and are planning on going to a P&P party before we drive home that night. Is it acceptable to valet park at the Contemporary (probably around 3:30p), walk to and from the park and pick up the car around 9:30p (after the party parade)? If so, does this scenario save us any time? And is valet parking free, aside for tip, at the Contemporary for DVC members?

Thanks! I'm still working out the details for our first DVC stay!

My understanding is that it is not acceptable to use any of the resort parking lots unless you are a guest at that particular resort or dining at one of the resort's restaurants. I believe there is a two-hour limit for dining.

You are not supposed to park at a resort and then go into the theme park; use the theme park lots where you should be able to park free of charge until the end of the day you check out.

Valet parking is only free at DVC resorts. So since as of right now Cont. is not a DVC resort you have to pay.

Just leave your car at SSR and take the bus. Easy as pie.

We went to the WDW and attended the P&PP a few weeks ago. We parked valet at the Poly and took the monorail to MK. No lines in or back. I even asked the valet and he said that we were good all evening. We ate breakfast at Contemp a few days later, did the same, and were told we were good all day. For Epcot we used valet at BW, walked on over and ferried back. I'll choose that route evry visit to WDW to avoid the parking crowds and trams. BTW, DVC and DDE both offer free valet.

Getting past the guard at the contemp. will be your problem. They do not let you in unless you have a dining or room reservation.

You can't get free valet at the Contemporary just with DVC. That is only available at BWV, VWL and BCV. I have been told conflicting things about parking at the Contemporary and at the Poly and going to the park. While the actual valet will usually tell you that it is okay, the official policy is that there is a time limit on your parking. I'd rather use my resort bus than park at a MK resort just to use the park, but we have left our car at the resort when we were dining at the resort before or after a stop in MK.

We had eaten a couple meals at the Contemporary, when we pulled in and talked to the parking person they carded us to see if we were actually staying at a Disney resort, they(more than one person) said no problem. I understand the rule that is in place, however, I am still being a patron to their business, and it was more than one time spending money there I did not feel the least bit sorry that I did parked there. We also had eaten at the Grand Floridian for breakfast and the Vacation Club people came & picked us up there, knowing we had a vehicle in their parking lot and it was not even a big deal to them. I do think that if it became a problem then it would be more inforced. Just ask the parking attendants they will help you.

Valet parking at the Contemporary is not free for DVC members, as there is not currently an operating DVC resort there. The DDE card rules are that you must eat a table service meal, and present the receipt for that meal along with the DDE card. Whether the individual valet captain requires this or not, who knows, but those are the rules.

In general, parking at non-DVC resorts and using the paid valet will cost you money, even if you had to pay to park at the theme park, because you'd not only have to pay for the valet service, but tip them as well.

In the case of the OP of this thread, they'd still be able to park for free in the MK lot, as their resort tag would still be valid on their departure day.

Also a reminder, it is against DVC Board policy to post "work arounds" for Disney policies, unless the person is entitled to them as a legitimate benefit. As the OPs question has been answered, I'm going to go ahead and close this thread.
