The vast majority of our house is hardwood floor or cermic tile. We do have a few area rugs in some of the rooms, these rugs are low pile type rugs.. We have 1 dog who sheds the equilivent of a small animal every day or so (LOL) I currently use a little "shark" stick vac and it does "ok" but its nearing the end of its life and I'm starting to look @ replacements.... so my question is

What kind of vacumn to you recommend and why?

TIA!!!

I also have hardwoods and ceramic tile on our main floor (and a wool area rug) and then have carpet upstairs. I actually use two different vacuums!

I LOVE my Electrolux Ergorapido Ion (EL1030A) stick vac. It is better than other stick vacs because it has a lithium ion battery. It is different than the other Electrolux stick vacs so you can't compare it to the others. I use it for quick little clean ups every other day or so on the hardwoods. It picks up any little dust bunnies, shedding from the wool rug that migrated onto the hardwoods and it will pick up grass clippings that get tracked in. It is impossible to use it on any rugs or carpeting.

I use my Eureka Boss Smart Vac HEPA vacuum for all carpeted areas as well as use it on the hardwoods about once a week before mopping. It is a heavy vacuum but sucks everything up very well!

The stick vacs are nice but really can't do the job of a full size vacuum unless you vacuum every day...and I don't feel that a stick vac can thoroughly clean a rug, no matter how low the pile is.

Get a shop vac. We got one when our entire house was tile and it worked amazing.

I have a Dyson Animal and it's HEAVY. Had an Electrolux and hated it.

The shop vac was lightweight, cheap ($60?) and sucked everything off the hard floors.

I have a shark navigator and i love it....we have two med size dogs, one sheds like crazy....In the reviews, it is compared to a dyson at a fraction of the cost! :thumbsup2

I use a shark navigator too and love it.

I had a dyson for a few years and never understood why all the fuss. It didn't do anything that other vacs did. I got one of the shark navigators lift away and I love it. No fuss and light to bring around the house.

Sounds like I need to look into the Shark Navigator... Thanks everyone or helpin me narrow down my choices!

This is my second unit to my Oreck, love both. Two levels, the stairs, attachments and lightness of the Oreck. (Sp)
